Mayfair Hotel & Spa

The Mayfair Hotel and Spa in the heart of Coconut Grove has seen better days. It is outrageous that they are still considering it and advertising it as a 5 star hotel. If it is 3 stars, it would be a good day. The positives first: The location is perfect, right across the street from CoCo Walk and all of the great restaurants and shops in Coconut Grove. The other positive is that once upon a time, it was a luxurious beautiful hotel. But this «newly renovated» that they talk about on their answering machine is deceptive.
The other positive is that the rooftop deck is lovely with great views of the surrounding area and the ocean in the distance. However, Lolo the manager of the rooftop was unfriendly and completely impatient with us as we tried to enjoy it until it’s 8pm closing. He slammed down the door on us as soon as we approached it.
Because it is «an outdoor hotel» the rooms are extremely musty, so upon check in, you walk into a room that is FREEZING cold, in order to mask the pungent odor. The rooms are all appointed with a private balcony that is an enclosed area. Each has a hot tub. Very luxurious idea but because of the stench and the lack of decent cleaning on the balcony, the area is too dirty to imagine getting into the hot tub. Interestingly, it costs $ 30 to have it prepared and filled for your use. What a strange amenity… And then they charge you to fill it!
Secondly, the closets have a terrible sewer like smell, so we chose to leave all of our clothes in the suitcase for fear that our clothes would smell like the closets.
The bathroom, although the only evidence of the «newly renovated» aspect of the hotel, is attractive enough but the cleaning crew is lazy and not cleaning it as well as they should. There is rust and dirt lining the toilet and the inside of the toilet bowl was not cleaned once during our 7 night stay. Nor were the sheets changed. Not once. The white shower curtain was also stained.
A filthy brown stained towel was folded up neatly on the side of the tub with new soaps. When I saw that no washcloths had be left that day, I opened it up and saw the filthy rag. Another rag, fell apart in my hand.
We called the front desk upon seeing the first room and they offered us a nice upgrade which was equally musty, but we realized incense would tame the odor. We laughed when we asked for matches at the front desk and they offered as many as we needed. Clearly this complaint had been launched before.
We made do with our incense and keeping the heat up so we could be comfortable. The hard freezing cold tile floors were also not very comfortable.
The worst part is the way our complaints were handled. We were given the runaround so that no one would have to offer us the compensation that we thought would be appropriate for the false advertising of a ²¹⁄₂ star hotel that is claiming to be 5 star. We are still waiting for the manager Nathan McGregor to get back to us after he speaks to the owner who is conveniently away in France…
Run don’t walk away from the Mayfair.

The lobby has a bamboo ambiance, very elegant! We went up to the roof top pool/​bar where the bar tender whipped us up some nice generous drinks! The view was incredible! The sun was setting over coconut grove! I was «wow-​ed»!!! The music was mellow electronica (if that is possible)! A very mellow enjoyable night with sunset views! However be prepared to pay for the experience!

Wow I’m surprised to see such low ratings for his property. First of all great location! Very central. Secondly, there facilities are beautiful and clean.
We came here for a mom spa day with my sister and had a phenomenal experience. My masseuse was Brenda and I highly recommend her. All of the the spa girls treating us like princesses.
After the spa we went up to the pool and had lunch — it was so yummy!
I highly recommend it.

I guess Mayfair represents everything that is expensive about living in Miami. The valet parking is a crazy $ 30 a day. Almost nothing in the room is complementary minus the shampoo and coffee. The hotel room is upwards of $ 200 a night. Plus parking is terrible in the area. That being said, the location of the hotel is great. Right in the heart of Coconut Grove where the food is good and bars are hopping. The rooms are pretty spacious and the beds are very comfortable. In short, if you are fine with paying a premium, this may be the place to stay. If not, best stay further out where rates are cheaper, parking is nicer, and you won’t be broke because of valet parking prices.

Horrible service booked with a third party and jacuzzi was broken, sheets were itchy, bathroom was dusty and lampshades were old and dirty.

It’s crazy reading all of these negative reviews about the Mayfair because the 3 times I have stayed there I have absolutely loved it!
This used to be my boyfriend and I’s favorite «staycation» hotel in Miami. On special weekends we would rent a room here for the weekend. We always got a room with a Japanese soaking tub (perfect size for 2 adults to soak and relax) and all 3 times I’ve stayed here they’ve upgraded us to a suite. The soaking tubs are on private, secluded balconies covered in vines/​plants to block the view onto the street and we both enjoyed the privacy. University of Miami has a special pre-​negotiated rate here so we were only paying around $ 130 per night. My only issue is that valet parking is not included, but that’s only a minor detail.
The hotel itself is extremely «zen». It has these calm and relaxed vibes with lots of water features and plants throughout. The best part is the rooftop pool and bar with views overlooking Coconut Grove. On Saturday’s at 8am they also have free yoga on the roof!
I highly recommend the Mayfair Hotel & Spa!

We stayed here for part of our honeymoon. From the moment we walked in we were wowed by the look of the place. It’s beautiful, especially at night. The staff were great, the room and our little patio (we had a suite) were clean and spacious. They even comped us the beers i drank out of the minibar.
Right in the middle of Coconut Grove too :)

So explain this to me. I am having a wonderful time here. I have spent several hundred dollars. We are on the roof top pool bar. I get a little hungry and remember that I have a little left over sandwich in my room. I go get it and bring it back. Tgen the bar tender comes over to tell me that they do not allow outside food. Really… do the math. Not his fault. Bad management. Never going to recommend this hotel even though it is a great hotel. Ruined it. I have several trips planned over the next six months but will not return and will not re ommend all because of corporate greed and they wanted me to order their $ 13 appetizer. Grow up. Anyone staying here is spending ay least $ 1000. Idiots!

I wish there was an option to leave 0 stars because the experience I had with this hotel is appalling. I had my wedding there a couple of weeks ago and the entire experience was an outrage. I signed a contract with the Mayfair 10 months prior to the wedding date and everything seemed amazing and very well organized. The contract was for a 200 person wedding and I spent tens of thousands of dollars on this very special day. 8 days before my wedding I am told that 200 guests do not fit in the ballroom, after the contract I signed stated it did, and I had countless emails from the wedding planner contact at the Mayfair that stated 230 guests fit comfortably in the room. After 48 hours of unnecessary stress, the Mayfair confirmed that the 200 guests would fit fine.
I also booked a room block for my wedding guests with the Mayfair and the customer service I received from their booking agent was purely disgusting. When I called in and asked if another room can be booked under the rate I reserved given the amount of money I had spent on the hotel and the fact that they still had plenty of openings for that weekend I was told «I do not care how much money you have spent here I cannot help you.»
On the actual weekend of my wedding, they would not accommodate an early check in, even though I had the bridal suite which means my room was completely different from all others and could have been cleaned first. On top of that, the day of my wedding the Mayfair placed the wrong chargers out after I had purposefully gone to select them 7 months in advance and event sent pictures to them on the table scape I would like the week of the wedding to ensure no mistakes were made. Needless to say, the tables were wrong throughout the reception. Furthermore, there was man inside of the women’s restroom that was right next to my reception which completely made every female guest at my wedding very uncomfortable.
As if all of that is bad enough, I was robbed from a hotel employee in my room and at my reception. My wedding photographer and day of coordinator found a hotel employee in my room right before my wedding ceremony after we gave specific instructions that no one from the hotel staff was to go into the room because I had my dog in there. We later realized my mother’s purse thrown to the side and all of her cash missing from it. On top of that, another room I booked for my grandmother was robbed as well. All cash gone from the wallet. At my wedding reception, I had about 3 envelopes of gifts given to me which I had my day of coordinator place in a box with the rest of my wedding décor. At the end of the night, everything was there except the envelopes. My husband and I did meet with the manager on duty and he was helpful in the fact that he refunded us some money based on the situation we had over the wedding weekend but at the end of the day, I have such disgust for the way I was treated throughout the whole process that I wish this upon no one. I would rather have paid double what I paid for my wedding at the Mayfair to have it somewhere else without any stress or theft.
This is definitely not the service I expected from a hotel that on average charges $ 500 a night and considers themselves to be luxurious. The windows are dirty, the hotel is falling apart and the staff is a disgrace. I hope that someone buys this place and turns it around soon because it truly is too beautiful to be treating people this poorly.

We were there Easter weekend. We were greeted by super nice people, from the doorman and valet, the the front desk. Check in is at 4pm, but there was no issue us checking in an hour earlier. Hotel is very beautiful, with that warmth coconut grove is known for. The suite was at a great price since we got it at Travelocity, and the room was clean, with a jacuzzi in a semi private balcony. It was so peaceful and a great escape. The pool on the rooftop was great. The bar on the end was nice and staff was super friendly. My only suggestions are that while lounging at the poolside, the staff did not walk around asking if anyone needed drinks. I went to the bar to get a drink, other than that, no one attended to me. Definitely like service when I’m taking a break. I would have bought more drinks. The ambiance was great. Another recommendation is that when we were getting ready to go out, I wanted to use my flat iron, but there were no outlets in the bathroom other than the one the tv had, which was up high in the bathroom. Mayfair, you need more outlets!

The hotel itself is beautiful, the staff is not. We had several issues while staying there this weekend for a wedding:
1. They don’t even come close to entertaining early check ins.
2. We checked our bags with the front desk and they forgot to give me one of the bags. I asked the front desk manager Jessi for some assistance, who essentially made me out to be a liar. Exact words were: «This woman CLAIMS she didn’t receive one of her bags.» 2 minutes later the bag was found in their storage.
3. The groom bought gifts for all the groomsman, one of which was my boyfriend. The baskets had liquor, iPhone speakers, flasks and a handwritten letter from the groom. All the gifts were in the suite when we all went to brunch on Sunday. When we returned, they were nowhere to be found, along with one of the bridesmaid’s set of pearl earrings. We requested the help of the front desk manager Jose, who was anything but helpful. Later in the day, one of the groomsman (not the manager) found most of the items in the housekeeping closet. I am in complete disbelief — housekeeping stole the gifts. A police report was filed. I just can’t fathom a hotel that charges over $ 300 a night to have employees that steal sentimental things from guests. Unbelievable. We will never set foot in the hotel again.

Beautiful as always, attended a wedding at the reception hall and the location was great, service was great and so was the food.
It was a beautiful place to be at.
Valet Parking should have been included but it a minor detail in the grand scheme of things.

Fair is fair, the hotel is very nice, but the staff is so awful I’m not only put off from ever staying here again I plan to make sure my family and friends who visit us in Miami several times a year won’t stay here anymore either.
I booked this hotel for a quick getaway along with a spa day. Three weeks prior to my stay I called to make sure I could check it early (1 or 2 PM instead of 3 PM) and I was told that it would be no problem if I called ahead closer to the booked date. I called the night before and there was no answer, I left a voicemail and no one called me back. I called again that morning and I was told there were people ahead of me (Which wouldn’t have happened had they returned my call)
I went on with my spa appointment (The spa and their staff is fantastic, again, to be fair) and I came downstairs all relaxed to deal with «Jesi» who has such awful customer service skills I am certain he must have worked at a Delta airport counter before this job. Jesi was rude from the get go, he acted like the mere request of checking in a little early was a personal insult. At this point it was 2 PM and he said there would be no room ready until 4 PM.
Here’s the thing, I live 5 miles away, the whole point of getting a room was so my wife and I had a place to shower, nap, and soak in the japanese soaking tub after our spa day, then go out to dinner at the grove, come back for a 2^nd soak on the tub and go home to our baby. I wasn’t planning to actually stay the night, so a 4 PM check-​in compeltely ruined our plans and our day.
I wouldn’t even have been upset, had Jesi shown any semblance of sympathy, instead of being apathetic and rude through our entire 30 second interaction he might have salvaged my day; instead he completely ruined it. When I asked «Ok, well, here’s what my plan was and now it’s kind of ruined, what can you do for me, is there something we can work out?» his answer was «Nothing.» and he felt the need to add «And you can’t get your money back» as if that was going to be my next request… all I was trying to do was work out a way everyone could be happy. Even a heartfelt «I’m sorry this is happening, I apologize, nothing I can do but I feel bad about it.» would have been better than his smug attitude.
I ended up taking the room anyway since I obviously wouldn’t get my money back; I figured I’d at least get a nice soak on the Japanese tub to relax from all the stress that guy caused me… and the tub in my room was out of service. Fantastic!
While the room was nice and clean, the hallway outside was also filthy, there were fresh stains on the floor and a random tuft of hair, disgusting.
So there you have it, thanks to Jesi’s complete ineptitude and manners akin to those of a somali pirate I have zero plans of ever booking another room there, and even though it’s not their fault I’m not planning to come back to the spa either. That’s $ 600+ for a few hours that The Mayfair could have gotten from me at least 2 – 3 times a year for the next few years and thanks to Jesi they’ll never see another cent. To make things worse, this was my #1 recommendation for our multiple family and friends who visit us several times a year, now that’s over too; there’s literally dozens of equally nice hotels in Miami where they don’t treat you like they are doing you a favor letting you stay there.

Location is fantastic as you are right At the heart of coconut grove and can walk to everything.
When I arrived at the mayfair, I was greeted by the valet named i think his name was Leo. He was extremely helpful explaining the area to me and gave me the best options of restaurants in the area.
Same when i left, while i was waiting for my car he spoke to me and asked me how my day was going and how my stay went. he made me feel welcomed.
Love the roof top/​and bar. I went for a weekend stay and mostly every weekend, they have a party at the roof top. lots of fun.

My hotel stay here was awful… the actual grounds/​facilities and room structure is nice but the customer service and overall accommodation or lack of is ridiculous. My stay was a 5 night stay. I am now into my 3^rd night and have had an abundance of issues where I’m only receiving apologies for.
1. The night I checked in on Thursday they closed the entire pool for a private event. When I spoke to he managed Jose he offered late checkout (doesn’t help me my flight leaves in the am) well what I can do he states, I don’t know figure it out, no response yet!
2.housekeeping didn’t clean the room on Friday, when I called Friday night they said I have to request it? Really I’m in a hotel. They brought me towels.
3. Saturday housekeeping cleaned the room but left the room service tray with food in the room, put four towels in the bathroom with 1 washcloth. I informed them when I was leaving they said someone will come put it in the room no washcloths.
4. Called down to get my car from valet get outside my cars not there he can’t find the key, reason being he’s looking for a Cadillac I drive a BMW, why have key tags???
5. The next day I wake up call the front desk for towels… it’s been 30 mins no towels yet!
What more can happen???

Don’t get me wrong. I had a very nice stay here, but let me tell you why I’m only giving this hotel a three stars.
I got this hotel from bidding on Priceline and my rate was less than $ 70/​night. For the rate, this hotel wasn’t too bad at all. The person helping me at the reception desk was super cool. The other staff who were around also joined in the short conversation that we had. When I had told him that I was on a road trip with my dad and my sister and that I had driven all the way from Houston (making stops along the way), the person who was checking me in told me that he was going to switch my room from a «King» room to a room with two beds. He also told me that I would definitely going to enjoy my room.
Imagine my surprise when I walked up to the room and noticed that I had been given the «Pandora Suite». That’s right, he hooked us up and upgraded us to a suite. Two queen size beds, with a very nice bathroom, dining table, a couch in the small living area, and a pretty big patio outside with a Japanese soaking tub available. Although the patio didn’t really have any view, it was still an awesome upgrade. Especially for a guy who’d spent the majority of the past few days driving.
However, as awesome as the room was, there were some things that could have been better. I’ll tell you what they are:
— There was no lock on the bathroom door. This means, you have to use the honor system. If the door is closed, then knock or don’t open it at all.
— The bathroom door doesn’t really insulate any sound. So you can pretty much hear everything that’s going on in there, if you know what I mean.
— The room door doesn’t insulate sound well either. You can hear the conversations happening outside the room.
— The patio could use a little cleaning. The ceiling fan was dusty as hell. Parts of the ceiling were also dirty.
— The bed frames need upgrading. The mattresses are put on some metal frames and they squeaked!
— Electric wall outlets are very scarce. There were none by the bed. So you can’t charge your phone by the bed.
The beds were pretty comfortable except for the squeaking. The bathroom was nice with a rain shower head. The elevators were pretty slow, but you only have five floors to deal with so the wait wasn’t horrible. They have a rooftop pool, but no exercise facilities. I went to the 24-​hr fitness that’s within walking distance for the hotel.
As for parking, you can valet at the hotel for $ 28/​night or you can go to CocoWalk (not affiliated with Mayfair) across the street and park in the underground garage for about $ 2/​hr up to a maximum of $ 16/​night (I think). For me, parking in the garage was cheaper. But if you’re doing a lot of in and out parking, I would recommend the valet.
This hotel definitely has the potential to be much better. They just need to update all the older stuff, do a little bit of cleaning, and buy some new bed frames. Despite of all the bad things, I wouldn’t mind staying at this hotel again. Especially at the rate that I got.

Worst hotel experience EVER. I stayed 3 nights in April 2015 for a business trip. Everything thing was fine until after I checked out. Several days later I noticed a charge on my credit card for over $ 100. I called to inquire. Account Services stated that I had eaten the snacks/​drinks in my room. These items were charges were posted to my account after I had already checked out. I was livid. Unfortunately, they told me housekeeping was unavailable to talk to me. I left my phone number and asked them to call me back. Did they? Nope.
Never again, Mayfair. I’m glad my credit card company was able to take care of this situation, since Mayfair was of no help. STEER CLEAR!

What I don’t understand here is, if there are cockroaches and bedbugs in my room, why on earth would you think moving me to another room would be an acceptable solution? And then refuse to give me my money back for the remainder of my stay… For nights I WONT be sleeping there.
This is truly the most disgusting establishment I have ever seen. Literally worse than a Texaco stall.
The manager, Charlene, was outright awful, rude, and the most horrendous person to deal with. I don’t understand why anyone would put her in charge of anything other than the restrooms. This place needs to be demolished, along with its staff.

A little torn on how many stars I should give this hotel but decided to bump it up to 3. I was looking for a hotel convenient to shops in Coconut Grove for one night before we boarded our cruise the next day and booked on their website. It was a special but would definitely not pay the regular price.
It was about a $ 30 cab ride from the airport. Check in was very quick and they accommodated my request for a room higher up and away from traffic but putting us on the 4^th floor. The elevators are older but worked ok.
Our room was large, but tiled floor so I preferred to wear my sandals. The balcony was ugly and didn’t have the Jacuzzi we were to have. Not that we would have used it as I think the price was $ 30. There was closet space, a mini fridge, and safe. In the bathroom, the toilet was separated from the shower/​tub area. I didn’t really like there was no shower curtain though. Bathroom also had a TV and phone. I guess they think people will spend a lot of time in there.
On the rooftop is a pool, cabanas, and tables and chairs, with a bar. It’s accessible by a different elevator beside the 2 main ones. We bought breakfast and ate it on the rooftop which was nice. Views are ok if you peek over the ledge.
The location is good. It’s close to shops, restaurants, and movie theatre next door. Walgreens is about a 10 minute walk away and Starbucks 2 minutes away. We walked to the pier area but it was evening so too dark to see much.
We asked for a cab and one came right away. It’s about 15 minutes from the cruise ship terminal and less than $ 30 cab ride.

Well, shame on me for not checking these reviews before booking.
My parents used to come to the Mayfair when they were younger. I heard all about the great nightclubs the went to in the Grove when it was in its prime. They stayed many nights before my brother and I were born crashing at the Mayfair Hotel — quite possibly sobering up — no shame in admitting that.
And apparently, the Mayfair has decided to not change much since the time when my parents were painting the town red. The hotel is SUPER outdated. The doors to the rooms are possibly the originals. The elevator is terrifying — not only does it feel like it’s going to get stuck — but they also took it back to a time when there was no AC in elevators (shout out to you mom and dad — I’m sure you remember those days). It’s hot, scary AND there’s a huge crack in the glass elevator.
So it doesn’t end there…
My wife checked in first and text me that there was an odd smell in the room. Someone came up and febreezed it… when I got there it was fine. However what wasn’t fine was:
1) The mildew in the bathroom. Up and down the side of the walls was mildew.
2) There was a private hot tub on our balcony — surprise we didn’t use it. The furniture out there was also full of mold. We didn’t even open the sliding door.
3) The door in the bathroom was broken on the bottom — while this doesn’t make my life any less comfortable/​safe — it’s crazy that a door would be all broken in a hotel — that’s an easy fix man.
4) The lamp in the bathroom was also cracked.
5) The internet was slower than the connection I had in 1998 when I would go into AOL chatrooms (Places — Miami 14). I asked the front desk about it and they told me «That’s just the way it is… you can see you have a good connection, but our bandwidth just isn’t a lot.» I then asked him how long this had been the case…“Over a year now, at least.” WHAT? How do you not have WiFi that works — especially in a place like the Grove where people are probably staying if they are they are on business.
The valet was expensive — but that’s expected. The valet guys were nice enough.
Luckily we were only there for one night. I tried to call
to get a refund, but we were not successful so we stuck it out and stayed the night.
I told my parents I stayed here and their faces lit up with joy — I won’t ruin it for them by telling them what this place has become — although, my mom does have a Unilocal account, so maybe she stumbles across this.
