Three of my family members went for lessons this morning and all three learned lots and had much fun. They did the two hour semi private lessons with Mike and thought he was an excellent teacher. I enjoyed watching from under a tent and sitting in a chair. They are very accommodating! We recommend these lessons!

Signed up for the all day, week long kids summer camp. The instructor told the kids that they would just be practicing rather than getting much instruction. He snapped and yelled at my kiddo all day and was annoyed with the kids. As well, they didn’t group beginners with same abilities, instead it was all over the place. We have done summer camps around the nation, my son has never complained until this one. It was very expensive compared to other camps but we *thought* it would be a great experience-nope. It was a waste of money. Looks like the 2.5 hour session would have been a better deal.

I did the two-hour lesson with some friends yesterday, and it was great! We were all 100% surfing beginners(although we all love water sports) and we all managed to have some solid surfing experiences! They have some tips on how to best apply your sunscreen, so wait until you get there to do it(e.g., don’t put it on the front of your legs or it will get all over the board). They also provide rashguards of various sizes and colors. After a safety talk, it’s a short walk to the beach, where you grab your board from the back of a trailer and head to the water! A few minutes is spent on dry land learning on how to stand on your board. They have a small tent set up on the beach for parents /loved ones who aren’t surfing to hang out and watch during the lesson. We all managed to get up on our boards after just a few tries, with the help of our instructors. Our semi-private lesson was merged with another semi-private so that we could have the help of two instructors, and that was great! Both instructors were incredibly nice and helpful, and passionate about surfing. After the lesson, there are outdoor, fresh water showers back at the surf school building so you can rinse off. We all had a great time and can’t wait to go back! The only«hmm» to the whole experience was the lethargic guy on the phone, and at the front desk, who wasn’t particularly enthusiastic or helpful providing info when we signed up and when we first arrived. But it was really all about the surfing, so we didn’t care too much about that. :)

This is the spot. You and your instructor grab boards and walk to the beach. Went out with Larry two consecutive Saturdays and he got me from squirrelly to standing up and turning up and down the line. Highly recommended. Take your kids here and they will be stoked.

I had a blast learning to ‘pop up’ here! The woman manager was very sweet on the phone when I made the reservation and asked for directions. I signed up for a group 2.5 hour lesson but she hooked me up with a private instead since it was mostly kids. Shaaabooyah! My instructor was really thorough and covered all the basics before letting in me in the water; paddling out, how to duck dive, hazards involved, etc. I’m a curious cat but he didn’t seem to be annoyed when I wanted to learn all about reading waves, weather patterns, etc which clearly TMI as a beginner. Although I’m athletic and a salt water girl, the lesson still kicked my butt! The waves were sloppy choppy that day so it was tiring but I still managed to get up on my third try! The surf shop is small but has wetsuits, sunblock, rash guards, wax, etc for sale. They also offer kite boarding lessons which I almost tried. You can tell this shop cares about it’s community based on the event, fundraiser, and team sponsorship photos on the wall. Massive props go out to these instructors who are in the elements all day, getting thrashed by waves, all in the name of sharing the ocean playground with others. High 5’s all round!
