History

Established in 1994.

Phil Abston, local firefighter, and his son Jon ran the Hook and Ladder for 20 rockin’ years which saw good times, a location change, and plenty of drinks poured! In 2014 Andrew Ueland, constant fixture at the bar, purchased the place ushering in some updating and additions. The Hook lives on with new TVs, a pool table, and other great additions. WHile the appearance has changed the Hook is still your place for a good pour at a great price!

Been here a few times with my boyfriend. We usually just stay home and drink on the weekends, but we decided to try a local place. I had friends recommend H&L and I’m so glad we went! It has a bar atmosphere, but everyone does their own things and is incredibly chill. The bartenders are all great. Theyre funny, friendly talented mixologists and I haven’t had a drink I didn’t absolutely love. Still, my boyfriend and I got a drink that had a bunch of types of spirits, plus blue curaco and sweet and sour and we loved it but don’t know it’s name! We’ll be back soon and we’ll ask!

Brought my sister here for her bday. No bday special. They claimed they worked here for a long time and there’s never been none. I got one before. Wasnt mad about it.
But…definitely mad that couple days before, some dude was getting his bday song, lights and stuff flashing.
Saw this so I decided to bring my sister here. Got nothing. Just a cold mean ass attitude from two bartenders.
Aint coming back.

Been here a handful of times and enjoyed a tasty bloody my with friends after work, a chill bar that’s sort of a dice bar but immediately stopped going back when I almost swallowed A FLY IN MY DRINK and the bar tender BRUSHED IT OFF and chalked it up to the backdoor being open and the flies liking the liquor. It’s dark and the fly was in my glass and I literally went in. His brush off was defensive and didn’t apologize or give me my money back or offer to make a new one. NEVER GOING BACK

Cool place. Pretty chill. If you’re nice to the owner, he’ll take good care of you. If you mess with him, he’ll mess with you. And last call means last call. Pretty simple.

Not a bad place to grab a beer, if you didn’t know it was there you would miss it. I was introduced by co-​workers, it’s more of a laid back scene. Nothing to go out of your way to visit but worth a try.

Cute little bar at Shaw & Willow next to Japanese Kitchen. Came here on a Friday night with some friends and it was definitely a good time! The bartenders were speedy and friendly, the drinks were strong and reasonably priced! The jukebox/​music machine had some GOOD tunes on there and the music was LOUD!!! Great place for locals & lots of friendly people. Good time all around!

This is a regular stop when we go for tepenyaki. Its a comfortable local bar. .no more… no less.
To the dumb ass who gave them a 1 star because they wouldnt serve you without an id, really shit for brains? Who goes to a bar without an id and gets pissed when he doesn’t get served. I would have normally given this place a 4 star but they get an extra one because they sent your lame ass packing!

This was the closest place to my hotel that was open so I decided to cruise in for a breakfast beer. Usually joints that are open in the morning are really divey but this spot is not! Clean, well put together and a bartender that rocks! I am very happy I came in and will make it a point to cone back on my next trip to the NO =)

Big long bar with decent tap and beer selection as well as a full bar. Friendly bartenders, pool table and a couple of electronic dartboards. No food or fancy décor. The Hook opens at 6am so it’s a good spot for a Bloody Mary after a rough night out! Good daily happy hour specials and special promotions. Also– for all you Brits out there, this is the home of Chelsea football!

As I wind down a week if hard physical labor I can always count on a stiff drink at a cheap price. I always feel right at home with the bathroom smelling of urine and vomit. Plus the amusement of the regulars getting completely shitfaced and slapping asses and grabbing crotch is priceless. If you can get past the smell of shame and hopelessness then it’s a good place for a cheap drink, and if you’re lucky the hooker will show up! ;) and make sure that you show up on a Tuesday, and wear a Hawaiian shirt, cause it’s tropical Tuesdays bitches!!!

Pretty small of a lounge but reasonable I guess. Was there for my sister’s 25th birthday. (None of us were carded so I could’ve been underage & drinking my butt off! Js, lol.) Other than that, beers were super expensive. $ 4.25 a bottle of Blue Moon. No 1800 shots, pretty bummed about that but o’well.
Overall, not bad of a place. Not sure if I would go back though. The ‘Sex on the Beach’ mix drink was eh, okay.
