A Book Barn

I always have a great time wandering the shelves here. I also appreciate that have events here. I am looking forward to trying out the book club that meets once a month here.

Friendly staff with a love for their work — they obviously love running a book shop — seriously. They were happy to help fund anything (if you have something specific in mind) but it’s also good for just wandering around and looking at the selection. Fun antiquarian section and the foreign language offerings were MUCH better than the local library. We went there on a date and we’ll going back as often as we can!

I went in specifically for children’s books — board books to be exact. i have a toddler who loves his bedtime stories. Anyway, I was greeted immediately & offered help by two friendly staff members. I was in the shop for a good 20 – 30 minutes, looking over every nook and cranny for books my son would enjoy. While I was impressed by the size of the children’s section in general (for being a used bookstore that is), i was kind of disappointed. Many of the board books i saw weren’t that desirable — for example, i saw one or two that came free from kid’s meals (Wendy’s to be exact) & from the hospital i think when you have a baby. I only know this because i received the same book when i gave birth to my son a year and a half ago (i believe the package is donated from First 5 of California to be even more specific). While i didn’t expect the latest titles, i did expect the board books to be a smidge better (read: from this decade). Although to be fair, the prices were really good — from $ 1.50 to $ 4.99.
Something I didn’t like was overhearing one staff tell another how he didn’t like the way she handled herself on the phone with a customer. he went on for a bit, and she didn’t really say much; this irked my last nerve. It’s one of pet peeves as a customer when i hear things like that. It’s inappropriate — as a customer i don’t want to hear that –save it for a different time or another room. I wasnt the only the only customer in the area either.
Overall, I probably won’t make a huge effort to come back unless i’m already in the area like today. The bookstore itself is impressive in the amount of books it contains overall, but not really up to par when it comes to toddler age books.

I love this place every time I go. It’s nice to see a bookstore like this and I’m glad to shop local. They just redid the whole kids book section and it’s so much nicer to take your kids. They have a huge selection of books and if you can’t find what you’re looking they can get you a copy from their warehouse in just a day.

This is a great book store in old town Clovis. The owners are very knowledgeable and friendly and always eager to help you find anything you might be looking for. They have a huge selection of books but everything is well organized and well laid out. It doesn’t feel cluttered inside like some used bookstores can. There are also plenty of little eclectically furnished reading areas throughout the store where one can sit and relax while reading. The selection here is excellent — my friend found a copy of an old novel that he had been searching for years for. Especially enjoyed the cookbook section and the history sections. This is the kind of place you wish you had more time to spend in — I know we did. Highly recommended!

Great little book store with a ton of books. Only caveat is that it can be a little hard to find what your looking for and they might not have all the new bestsellers.
So in summary… Cheap old books?

Not only were they rude, they didn’t take my books that they said they would buy waste of time

Oh, the joy of browsing through a bookstore! This refined art has not been lost, Amazon be da**ed. It is alive and well in Clovis and I’m so happy it is.
While not exactly acres of books, there are a lot of books in this fine establishment. Most, if not all of them, have been previously read which brings the prices down quite a bit. They are beautifully organized and someone has obviously put some thought into this (see separate «Star Trek» and «Star Wars» sections. Live long and prosper and may the force be with you *makes the Vulcan greeting sign with her right hand*.)
A very positive aspect of this store is the public events that they sponsor including the Mother Goose children’s book reading which happened to be starting just as I arrived. They also seem to sponsor workshops for hopeful writers.
Extraordinarily helpful staff, quite a selection, a browser-​friendly environment with plenty of seating to peruse that hard-​cover Tony Hillerman or John le Carré you just picked up… what more could you want?
Too bad it’s in Clovis or I’d be there once a week.

Nothing compares to a local book store. Chains have nothing on them.
I fell in love with The Book Barn the first time we visited a couple of years ago and have tried to pop in when I think of it (not as often as I’d like only because I’ve been going to the library a lot lately ;))
However, I specifically went there recently for an author I wanted to try and I had a feeling I would rather own his books anyway.
The man who greeted us was super nice and not only helped me find one book on the shelf but I could tell he had it in his mind that he’d seen another somewhere in the store.
While I joined my kids in the children’s section he came over to me a while later with a second book by the author. I was thrilled… Really. This kind of service doesn’t often happen anymore and it reminded me of my days of working in a small bookstore and how much I enjoyed it. It’s the little things like this that Moshe a huge difference in a local small business versus a huge chain store that doesn’t care to help you.
During check out, the gentleman also checked their inventory and verified that they did indeed have a third in their warehouse and they could get it for me per request when I’m ready.
Of course I’ll keep going back.
They have an awesome children’s selection too. some really great classic old books I remember from childhood as well as very old, valuable books. And my absolute favorite, a case of various Wizard of Oz books to drool over :)

HUGE selection which can be overwhelming at first. Come here when you have plenty of time to browse. Tons of books fiction, non, sci fi, old books, children’s, photography, cook books etc. Good prices, most books are like new to slightly used condition.

Love love love this used book store! The staff is super helpful and friendly and they have a HUGE stock. They will even look and hold books for you if you email them.
I always make a stop when visiting Fresno.

This is the best place to buy used books.
They keep their prices reasonable (even on hard to find books) and they will do their best to help you find what you’re looking for.

Giving off a vibe that is more bohemian than kitschy Old Town Clovis, A Book Barn is a great place to get lost on a lazy afternoon. Very good selection, immensely helpful service, and a fine selection of antique-​type materials, prints, rare books, and Americana. The space is large and cavernous, but not intimidating. The only thing missing from this place (that looks like a kind of place that Hemingway may have haunted) is a bar that serves Viennese-​style coffee and whiskey on the rocks with some deep weather-​worn leather couches. Highly recommended.

Well organized, wide selection! Cute children’s corner and teen section. Plenty of cozy seating. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable of the inventory. I found a number of popular fiction titles in great condition for only $ 5! Large collection of cookbooks!

Meticulously organized, excellent selection. This bookstore has moved from their original location and can now be found right in Old Town. Interesting selection of local interest and many, many «vintage» books. There are bean bags and chairs that invite you to stay a while… A must for any book worm, and definitely worth the drive!

One of the better bookstores I’ve visted in Fresno.
Fantastic classics section.
Fiction section is worth a look.
The workers there are very knowledgeable.
My wife also found Babysitter Club books for 75 cents. Which helps her get that much closer to collecting the whole set.

the BEST used book store EVER!!!
today i bought a 1944 edition collector’s book of Lewis Carroll’s Through The Looking Glass for only $ 30. It is worth WAYY more than that. they have so many books like that. they have great books for children, classics, romance, games, sci fi, everything.
i would give this place ten stars if i could
