Half Price Books

They don’t know how to treat books. Today, I pissed a worker off who had to get off the floor to show me where some books were. Apparently, they were in the wrong spot, because when I returned with my wife to show them to her they had been moved. And they had jammed one of them on the side into the side of the shelf, and creased the corner of the paper back cover pretty significantly. On another occasion, I went there to sell a volume of encyclopedias. I asked them specifically to be careful with them because I hadn’t decided whether or not I wanted to sell them. They stacked them on the floor. After offering me $ 0.50 for the entire volume of 26 books (because they were just going to shred them for paper) there were little pebbles engraved in the back cover of the ones that were on the floor. I couldn’t believe that they had so little regard for my personal property, and then today apparently they have little regard for their own property. FYI afterward I sold them on Craigslist for $ 35.00!

Love shopping here, not so much selling here. I took in over a dozen books by popular authors like Nicholas Sparks and got $ 4 for all of them. That’s less than 30 cents a book that they will then sell for $ 4 – 5. I know they have overhead but that seems like a huge difference! Next time I will just donate my books.

Half price books is a great deal. In one place, you can exchange your old books for money and exchange that money for other people’s old books!
I’ve never left this store without buying something. The staff are really friendly, but not pushy. I love having time to myself on the floor; I can spend hours browsing here.
The clearance section can definitely be a great find. Usually every few weeks there’s some kind of 20% off deal as well, so if you want a huge hall, wait for one of those.
The upside of going to this location rather than other thrifter stores is that it’s organized really well. You don’t really have to dig too much if you’re looking for something specific, which is great.
Plus there’s a Starbucks right across the parking lot now, so you can get your caffeine on with your new books after you’re done shopping! Highly recommend.

I love books, so it was kind of my destiney to get excited about books that are half price.
They truly are half price. If you look at they back of the book it will say $ 8.99 but be priced at $ 4.99.
They have a great selection of books, especially for kids and teens. There is also a lot of how to and instructional books, which works for me because I am a very curious person.
Not only do they have a huge selection of books but they also have a huge selection of movies and music.
Also when your done with the books and other books that come from other place they you can take them to the back of the store and get money back for it.

I always have a good experience here, there is always enough help, and there is always a fun find hidden in the racks.

Great selection of books, DVDs, CDs, could have a few more comics, but love this store otherwise.

As a bonafide book junkie, I love this place. The selection is fun and quirky and I always leave with a treasure.
Along with books, they have a great selection of stationary, gift items, music, movies. There is something for everyone!!!

While Borders is out of business and Barnes and Noble is on the brink of destruction, half price books flourishes. I dont know if it’s the half price novelty or the fact that they will buy old books back from you, but it’s sorta like a library that actually has the best selller you want without being #50 on the waiting list to check it out. If you keep it in good condition you can always sell it back to the store and use that money to buy another book.
This store restores my faith in humanity… I love reading and hope generations to come will also enjoy the crisp pages from a book… not just keep their heads in their ipads and smart phones.

This is the best Half Price Books I have ever been in! So clean and organized! Which I have been to some Half Price Books that look like a bomb just went off in them, and that makes things pretty hard to find!
But not here, this place is great! They have records, books, cds, dvd’s, and more!
You can also sell items back to them, you won’t leave rich but it’s nice to get rid of stuff every now and then, only to buy MORE RECORDS! Stop here frequently if you want to find the gems, and it’s usually pretty busy on the weekend so hop in on a week day!
All in all great store!

I finally found out why there are so few used book shops in the dsm area. It’s because no one could compete with this establishment. Great prices, huge selection, and wonderful staff.
While I perused physician biographies on one side of the store my wife filled up her bookshelf for her 4^th grade classroom.
They were a little lacking on the classics side. I couldn’t even find any Ray Bradbury, but that was a minor detail to be expected of a used bookstore.

When I first heard about this place when I moved to Iowa I didn’t think I would like it and I didn’t even think they were a real bookstore. I honestly thought it was like a thrift store for books. Boy was I wrong!
They are a legitimate bookstore with gift cards, different locations across the country, and their own business culture. Their books are new for the most part and they also have some used ones for sale. No matter what, the price is great! I have always left the store feeling like I made a great deal!
They also sell DVDs, Cds, and other products! Their staff members are very friendly and can assist you with anything. You can also sell your unwanted books here, just bring it to the counter in the back!
