Beach Donut Shop

We are new to the area and decided to check this place out after seeing the rave reviews. Even with a sizable line the girls behind the counter were friendly and efficient. The donuts are made in house and the egg sandwiches are made with REAL eggs on a stove top (not the microwave patties you get elsewhere). Highly recommend, especially if you typically visit the local Dunkin Donuts, this will knock your socks off.

I was delighted with their food service. It was awesome and really a thing which is not forgettable at all. I was satisfied with their service. The ambiance was dazzling and I like it.
Making everything great with their fine service, I will be back here.

Beach Donuts has the best donuts!!! So fresh and delicious. My favorite is the powdered bavarian cream donut. It’s super light and fluffy with the perfect amount of cream filling! Also love their banana hazelnut coffee — super tasty! They also are known for their coffee ice cubes which are the perfect way to keep your iced coffee cold and not watered down. (Will definitely be stealing this idea!). Always look forward to my trips down to Westbrook to stop in and get my Beach Donut fix. :)

Get here and be prepared to stand in line. Trust me it’s worth it. The sour cream donuts are the greatest things I have ever tasted. I could live off of those little munchkins (I know, different place). Get a bag and be prepared for the ensuing shame after you realize how many you polished off…

They’re light and fluffy and so delicious.
We had a glazed doughnut which was so light and airy with just the right amount of glaze. We also had one cinnamon one glazed crueller they were so good and I recommend going there the doughnuts are to good to pass up!

Stopped in last Saturday as we took the back roads home (a break from the highway) from NYC. It was later in the day so they didn’t have a lot of doughnuts left but it looked like they had quite a selection. We got an iced banana flavored coffee and an egg and cheese on a cheddar bagel. The coffee was okay. I think it’s one of those flavors that just doesn’t taste as good as it sounds. The sandwich was great. Loved the cheese and one perfectly. Prices were good. I felt one cashier was a bit rude to an elderly couple who remarked on the lack of doughnut selection, otherwise, it would have likely been five stars.

Last weekend I ordered some donuts and pastries for a party, and they were awesome! My guests loved them. I ordered several varieties of danish, apple turnovers, and some donuts. The cheese danishes were sooo yummy. The people I dealt with on the phone were very friendly and helpful on the phone during the ordering process as well. The chain donut places can’t hold a candle to this place. I will definitely be back!

After several visits these donuts are only good, not great. Yes, they are made in-​house, but perhaps because of all the friendly locals who stop by, or perhaps because they aren’t a very efficient business, the haphazard display of donuts is often limited. More important, the quality varies; sometimes the Boston Cream has «cream» filling, sometimes barely any, and sometimes (like the Blueberry donut last week) the donuts are just too sweet. Yes, donuts are a sweet treat, but the recipes at Beach need more work (as does the bathroom!).

Real old fashioned cake doughnuts, and the lighter kind too if you prefer! If you’ve only experienced corporate crap chain store doughnuts, which leave that strange grainy oil slick in your mouth (Dunkin) you are in for a surprise. It is possible to eat a sugar bomb treat like this and not feel like you ate a chemical oil spill.
My favorite is Sour Cream cake doughnut. Heavy creamy doughy with a crisp surface. Sugar glazed crusty goodness. Don’t leave yourself alone with a box of these.
Coffee: not great, just passable to accompany the pastry.
Divey feel (warning the bathroom is ugly) but that only adds to the charm. Handwritten signage. Lovely staff all the time! Great service.
Breakfast sandwiches and Cohens bagels are served as well. Great rolls.

Was craving donuts pastries something sweet. Did not really feel like going to the normal Dunkin Donuts routine. The only real good donuts I had found so far in the state were at Orangeside in New Haven. But we were out in Essex and heading back home toward Clinton pressed for time, I wanted to really try to explore Old Saybrook or Deep River but didn’t have time so maybe next time we’re out there. I’ve only been living in CT since summer of 2012… So my father said why don’t we stop the beach donuts I guess they’ve been there before donuts there. It doesn’t look like anything fancy anything to really meet people wanna stop. Its in a little shopping center we stopped around 12:30 p.m. and they’re open until 3 p.m. during the week when we went in they have a few tables where you can sit and eat when I approached the counter I noticed that they carried some turnovers danishes that were literally the size of a salad plate. They also made a bunch of twist like cinnamon twist, raspberry cheese they were about the length of a foot long hot dog. They had a variety of crumb cake, raspberry crumb cake wrapped in slices. They also had some pre packaged cookies you could buy and go. They had some rolls and other items. They might meet egg sandwiches and stuff I really don’t know. But they had so many donuts it was so hard to decide. For 6 doughnuts it was $ 6.50… They had a whole bunch of donut sticks your normal plane, glazed, jelly filled even the Bavarian /​Boston cream filling. They had powdered with Joey /​Lennon /​apples /​Bavarian cream. Things like blueberry cake/​maple frosted /​Apple fighter flash glazed with frosting cake with frosting I mean I could go on and on. After I paid I noticed another flavor that attracted me for the girl put it in the bag for free instead we throw away what’s left at the end of the day. So they put them in a bad I’m sure if I got a dozen they wouldn’t put them in a box but they fit in there nice and neat. As soon as I got in the car I ate a cinnamon sugar cake donut it was the size of like a saucer for a teacup it was delicious soft with a little bit of a crunchy outside. then I also got a coffee crumb, blueberry, powdered jelly, powdered Bavarian cream, apple cider, cinnamon sugar. & I bought a piece of the raspberry crumb cake. That was delicious they put raspberry jam on top of the moist yellow cake underneath the big chunks of homemade crumb cake topping. They sell that by the square for a $ 1.75… They also have a variety of tea and coffee. I’m so glad its right up the road I will definitely be going back they also carry other flavor she said during certain seasons. This is like the closest thing to a homemade New York donut I’ve had since living up here. And with such a selection you can’t go wrong and at that time of the day still being fresh @ that time of day A+++!

Best bagels around!!! The main chains donuts taste like cardboard now. Friendly service and the bacon, egg, and cheese is my favorite.

Someone brought Beach Donuts to work and let’s just say my diet did not win. I had the glazed sourdough donut. It was ridiculously good. And I thought Dunkin were good. I guess had been deprived all my life and just never knew it. The best donut in my life!!! That’s all I’m going to say.

The doughnuts here will have you wondering why you ever went to Dunkin. Staff is friendly and efficient despite the long lines and anxious customers. Don’t be put off by the run-​down look and feel of the place… it’s the quality that matters most.

The owner was a good customer of mine and I kept meaning to stop in and check out his shop. Boy! Am I glad I did! I may have to drive a few miles to get there, but its worth it! Friendly staff, the aroma when you walk in says it all, nothing better than the smell of fresh bakery. So many delicious looking donuts to choose from and specialty items too! Best breakfast sandwiches on the shoreline! There is a reason for all the good reviews!

Pretty good. Sour cream old fashioned was great — moist and heavy. The cinnamon sugar crueler was very good too. Like a good sweet bread, but a bit more substance and a good hint of yeasty freshness.
Coffee was good but they don’t have iced tea. Odd because they have iced coffee and they have tea. Just offer to make a hot tea and pour it over ice.

By far the best donuts I’ve ever had. Not only that but they stay fresh in the box for days. I could never eat a donut from DD again. You must try this place if you are on the shoreline. No joke.

Some of these reviewers might not know a good donut if they woke up with one under their pillow. Bottom line– If you are on the Shoreline, and you like donuts, not coming here would be an egregious error

There’s something you should know about me… I love donuts. Everyone at work hates my guts because I bring in boxes of them and make them all fat. Obviously I know what’s up when it comes to these breakfast treats. Beach Doughnuts are delicious. Seriously delectable. They are different textures and densities, unlike that Dunkin BS, which are basically all the same. This place is nothing fancy on the inside but who needs fancy? They also sell breakfast sandwiches and freeze coffee into ice cubes so that your iced coffee doesn’t get watered down. Can’t go wrong.

I work in Westbrook, CT, about 2 miles away, and had just heard about this place from a few co-​workers. It’s nothing fancy inside but even at 11:30 AM, there was a wide assortment of flavors. I got the cookies n’ cream donut, which was excellent — oreo topping with boston-​crème like filling. My husband got the vanilla sprinkled and apple cider and I purchased some other cake donuts for co-​workers. We split a decaf coffee, which was great as well. They had some interesting coffee flavors (e.g. coconut crème) that I look forward to trying in the future.

Tiny, hole-​in-​the-​wall donut shop across from Grove Gardens. My boyfriend and son went out to get a half a dozen donuts there this morning and we barely finished the three we started with. The donuts were super dense and VERY sugary. The bite I took from the glazed donut was rather good, but I have no idea how they have an average of over 4 stars. Also, The donuts were $ 1.25 a piece.
My boyfriend mentioned that it was a very old mom and pop shop, and that the people working there were not overly friendly or helpful (similar to Grand Apizza or Louis Lunch in NH).
Overall they were okay, but do not warrant a return trip.
