Gary Mac’s Bar & Grill

A solid, fun dive bar. Came up to watch the last Lions game of the season (big tear). The bartender was cool and came over and chatted with our group. It wasn’t busy for a Sunday afternoon Lions game which kind of surprised me. They have a pool table and darts. Also have my favorite, Keno. The drinks are reasonable and they have your typical bar food (didn’t try anything this time). The owner came in after the game and introduced himself. He bought my group a round. Nice people, cool divey atmosphere. I’ll be back.

Stopped in this afternoon for a beer. Friendly crowd of guys, giving the barmaid a hard time, like guys do sometimes. She took it all in stride.

I love me some divebars, so when I found this one with ‘dive bar’ in its name I was ecstatic. Plus I’m a marketer for nightlife and love experiencing new places. Aaaaaand that’s as far as the excitement went.
We walked in on a Friday. The bar, U shaped and sort of back in a corner, was full of what one could only determine as regulars. There was no one else in the place and no place at the bar, so we sat at a table. We were NEVER acknowledged by any employee (only a discerning glacé by an older man in a flannel (it was July)) although everyone seemed to look up when we walked in. We sat there for honestly 10 minutes because we really wanted to give it a whirl after we had heard a couple good words from a friend. Not once did the bartender come over, the manager come over or even look our way. We were the 1^st table by the bar!
Why didn’t we just go get a beer ourselves from the bartender? Well, it’s not our job. Also being in the industry I do tend to hold servers to a high standard – hell you have a job because we come in.
Anyhow, we were far from impressed. Will we give it another try? Doubtful. We got wonderful service and prices up the street at a competitor. :)
