Wild Hive Farm Store, Cafe Bakery

Really sad to hear this closed. We stopped in randomly on a trip north years ago and heard live jazz, eat delicious food, with warm service.

Really really disappointed after our last visit to Wild Hive which we had loved so much. Perhaps the person who used to take such great care of us is no longer there? Chef Amy!!! Something is definitely different and sadly not for the better. Instead of being greeted and seated, like the old friends we are, we were just handed menus and told to sit wherever.
The veggie burger I ordered was served on toast, was smaller than it had been and came with a minuscule tablespoon of sauerkraut. They have had in our previous visits frozen vegan veggie burgers «in the back» but none were available for me that day. And for a grain based farm to not have proper bread for a burger was a bit off. I was surprised I got toast with the Veggie burger is because I thought it came with challah, made with eggs, which would not be vegan for the ‘in the back” burger. It was like getting a whiskey sour in a wine glass… It just seems to have lost its country charm and graciousness and has become a rote business. When I go to a country café I want the smiles and charm, not robotic servers and employees who make me feel like I am not doing them a favor. We were on our way to the DCF and purposely took the route we did to dine at Wild Hive so it was sad that we went so, out of our way to experience this meal which was not up to snuff with our many previous meals there. And my husband’s grilled cheese, I just have to mentioned, looked like it was from the child’s menu, something my friend’s 8 year old would get. It was skimpy in size for a grown man. It with an adult price point. The skimpy amount of shredded cheese covered neither side of his bread and then they charged $ 1.5 for a slice of heirloom tomato which was so thinly sliced it did little to add any cohesiveness to his sad sammie (see photo he posted).
The space, location and mission of WH is great but on paper vs in practice seem to be at odds with one another. I love places like that and happily travel the distance to go but after a palpably not so wonderful brunch there it will be a long while before we try them again. Saddens me to say that after writing them THREE 5 star reviews but I cannot keep such a high rating when this last experience left us both short on praise and long on disenchantment. I hope this is just a temporary set back or even off day and soon Wild Hive will be the destination dining experience we enjoyed so much and would like to patronize again.

It was a glorious day for a road trip, so we headed over to Wild Hive for lunch. The place was really busy, but we were greeted promptly. The menu looked terrific…2 of us ordered pancakes/​bacon, my husband ordered biscuits & gravy and son a burger. Half of us were delighted. It took a while for food, and my coffee took a while too. My son loved the hamburger and the salad was a hit… fresh and beautiful. Husband thought the biscuits and gravy were awesome. Pancakes were heavy and bacon really thick… not crispy. I was sad. We got a teeny thing of syrup, which the throat-​sticking pancakes drank up in 2 seconds. Requested more, which we got… eventually. It was a nice place, which was a bit pricey, with slow service, that I probably wouldn’t schlep to again. And I really wanted to. C’mon guys… great concept… ya gotta deliver.

The WHFS had been a favorite and I would never have expected them to fall below four stars. An eatery that once provided generous portions at a reasonable price. My wife and I had stopped in for a bite to eat prior to attending the DCF. We walked in and were handed menus by the cashier who did not even give a simple hello. We then seated ourselves and the cashier who was now playing the role of server came over to the table and with a surly attitude took our drink orders.
The server returned with our drinks and to take our meal order. I ordered the grilled cheese which was $ 7.00 and added sliced heirloom tomato @ $ 1.50. The sandwich was accompanied by a garden salad and Sauerkraut. My wife chose the veggie burger which came with the same sides as my sandwich. Our meals arrived and I was given what appeared to be sized for a child. The sandwich was lightly toasted with barely any cheese, it was grated on there and did not even fully cover either slice of bread and was garnished with a single slice of tomato. Halfway into eating my garden salad I discovered what was a blade of grass and the sauerkraut was about a measly tablespoon serving.
I called the server over and asked questioned the grass in my salad. She then conferred with the cook only to return and tell me it is a stem as the greens are picked fresh daily («farm fresh») and come in a bag. Now I know what grass is and what it looks like as I cut enough of it on our lawn so don’t feed me a line, just be honest. All in all I am giving them two and a half stars but will be generous and round up to three rather than post it as two. They lost one star for the small portion and one and a half for the surly blond haired female server who could be a little customer friendly.

My friend and I stopped by this place for a quick lunch while touring the wineries. I apreciate the local, sustainable, crafty vibe. We’ve ordered beef burgers done medium, and both orders came in over-​cooked and under-​seasoned. For $ 12, I expected some good flavor and juiciness. Isn’t that the point with grass-​fed beef? The mixed greens salad was seasoned nicely. Given lack of other comparable options in the area (on a Sunday), this place would do, but nothing exceptional.

I was looking forward to Beer and Burgers one Friday night. I was in the area taking classes at CIA and this place was recommended to me. I was greeted when I came in, given a menu and told to sit anywhere there wasn’t a reserved sign on the table. I found a table close to the area where the band was set up that needed to be cleared. I chose that table as I was dining solo and it was the smallest that wasn’t already reserved.
The waitress came over and asked, «are you sure you want to sit there?». Not sure what she meant, but I told her I did not mind waiting for the table to be cleared. She then asked, «are you here alone?» and when I replied, «yes» she asked if I would mind if other people could sit with me, if needed, because they don’t have many tables. I was taken by surprise but told her I wouldn’t mind…
Then, I waited… and waited… and waited some more. Noone came to wipe down the table (the table was cleared of dishes with the initial conversation) or offer water. The band started up, which was nice… they were bluegrass and I love bluegrass music!
All that waiting allowed me to think… what if I really didn’t want to have to dine with complete strangers at my table? Would she have asked me to leave?! In the end, I got up and left but not without letting someone know of my disappointment. I was made to feel guilty for taking up a four top all by my lonesome… maybe in the end I gave them what they wanted…

food is very fresh and tasty, service was good and very personable in spite of a completely full house (due to a performance of Mama Tried blue grass group) — it was lovely!
food tried for 2 (vegetarian): pickled sampler plate, green side salad, mini slider — portobello with roasted peppers, veggie burger and cream of potato soup. Tiramisy is VERY good btw: fresh and crisp taste and moist texture.

Almost every ingredient is harvested on premise or within just a few miles of the farm. I visited the site as part of my «Food, Wine, and (Agri)culture» field trip for the CIA, and was simply amazed by the quality of the food and the craft of making it.
I love that all wheat/​flours are produced on-​site and are used by some of the greatest restaurants in New York, such as Del Posto and restaurants in Eataly.

I drove through the backwoods of duchess county twice to eat at this great café. I had the three egg omlette both times and it was flavorfull without that nasty aftertaste that commercial eggs have. The bacon could not be any further away from the supermarket version. Easily the best coffee I had in a great while.
I dare anyone to try the grilled tilsit cheese sandwich and not have a religious experience. We also came away with products from their refrigerated case including organic drinkable yogurt which was a meal onto itself, ice cream made by the same farm and organic bread. I wish I could go there and try everything, but alas I am now a hundred miles away and sighing with longing.

On Saturday 9÷24÷11 Wild Hive catered a party for us. They and the food were ‘Fantastic’!
From the first telephone conversation, through setting up at our home and clearing away afterwards, we could not have asked for more.
Their menu suggestions were first rate — imaginative, interesting and seasonal — with local produce too.
Everyone involved was friendly, engaged and generally keen to make sure we were happy.
Next time we host a party we will definitely be calling them again!

located in homey Clinton corners, this local treasure is a great find for those looking to get away from the generica of modern cuisine.
They try to keep it as locavore as possible, serving and selling local veggies, cheeses, and other items such as grains, legumes, flours and bread mixes from local farms. They are also a micro mill selling Thier own brands.
their menu varies slightly each month, and there are always a good selection of vegetarian options. Check their website for special family night themed events (pizza etc)
If your looking for big city speed and monster selection menus, look elsewhere, as you’ll be disappointed.
All others should make it a point to stop by and check out this treasure of the lower Hudson valley

Had such an excellent experience here today. Our lunch was super-​fresh and flavorful. We had the grilled cheese with lemon basil pesto on onion-​rye and the burger with mixed green salad. Normally I don’t like cole slaw (because I don’t like mayo), but theirs was nice and crunchy with bright flavors from the vinegar based dressing. The prices were excellent considering we were eating local meat, cheese, breads/​grains, etc — about $ 5 for the grilled cheese plate and $ 10 for the burger — not bad at all. I also loved that everyone working here was knowledgeable and eager to talk about what they are doing with local foods and about the slow food movement. Nice job guys, we’ll be back.
P. S. I was really impressed to see they had their own 00 flour product for sale. 00 is not easy to come by, even in big cities.

We LOVE this place. it is our absolute favorite place to eat breakfast or lunch and it’s our first stop anytime we’re in the Hudson Valley. No other place compares. We’ve taken every family member and every friend who have come to visit us and they all love it as much as we do. Thank you Amy and Don!!! We don’t know what we’d do without you guys. Food is sublime.

OK — I came with high expectations. Lots of people I work with rave about the place. Local grown, local grain, middle of nowhere. We drove the 10 miles for breakfast to Clinton Corners, a typically charming little crossroads house turned bakery/​café. Simple, homespun, even. But from the first entry, I felt something missing. No down home bakery or café smells. First, the coffee was worthless. We sent it back and asked if they could give it some flavor. It was brown water. The second cup was barely better. Sunday morning breakfast without robust coffee? I didn’t even finish half a cup. My daughter had the pancakes — FLAVORLESS, although the syrup was good. My wife had a egg sandwich that was OK. I had two eggs, over easy with cheesy grits. I was very excited, despite the bad coffee mojo, when I saw saw grits on the menu. Very few places around here make it, so I usually make it myself when I have 20 minutes to spare on a weekend. Unfortunately, the grits were lackluster and the home fries that accompanied the eggs were tasteless.
Maybe my expectations were unrealistic, but I don’t think so. Breakfast out should be a treat, right? I mean, anyone can make eggs or pancakes on a Sunday morning at home. So, I will be the spoilsport in the love fest of reviews. To be fair, we will return to give lunch a try, but for now, I will save my breakfasts out for the always enjoyable Eveready Diner.

Blink and you’ll miss it! Breakfast, brunch or lunch. They have their own stone mill and mill whole grain flour which you can buy to make your own baked goodies! They also sell honey, jam, vegetables, meats, cheeses, eggs and milk from neighboring farms. A great example of farm to table.

This is a lovely little spot to have lunch or dinner if you’re wandering through the prairies of Dutchess County. The grilled cheese I had here was probably the best grilled cheese I’ve ever had. It’s simple, but with amazing ingredients like freshly baked whole grain bread and local raw milk cheddar cheese, it really comes to life. The homemade sauerkraut was a surprising treat, too.
The only drawback here is that the service is sloooooooooooow. I started to fall asleep waiting for my food. But that certainly didn’t affect the quality in any way — in fact, I appreciated that they put care and effort into making my food and didn’t slap it together and rush it out of the kitchen.
In addition to the café, there’s a small area at the front of the store where they sell their breads, pastas, flour, and various produce. You can also find local dairy items in the fridge. Oh, and be sure to grab a homemade cookie on your way out. Their linzer tarts are superb.

Great food, great addition to the area. good bakery and really pretty environment. I am local to the restaurant and I am extremely excited to have them in the neighborhood.
I think the review below by Christine is a phony review. it doesn’t make any sense and it reeks of someone who is trying to harm this business. think about it, why would someone who rates a place with one star return a week letter because of something they read online, especially if they are not local (their post implies they are not).
UPDATE: I have been back several times and been disappointed by service. Very slow and sometimes forgetful.
