service was terrible along with the food. took nearly 30 minutes trying to pay for the bill. good college drunk food but terrible overall quality of food. choose somewhere worth your money.

I hadn’t been here in years and my fiancé and I always go out to eat on sundays and we were running out of local places to try. So we decided to try Alexus steakhouse and I was so surprised. The atmosphere was completely different. It was cozy and comfortable. The menu was new too. We had the shrimp martini appetizer which was incredible. They were running a new all day special thing so I tried the Sizzling chicken fajitas and OMG it was incredible! My fiancé had the Delmonico and it was cooked perfect! Our waitress was so on point. We didn’t have to ask her for anything and the food came out exactly as I ordered it(extra sour cream, no salsa, no beans, no onions, extra tortillas) I was shocked, because every time I go out, the waitress will usually forget something. It was such a great time, we didn’t want to leave, so we moved over the bar section after dinner and had a few drinks at the bar. The bar tenders were very attentive as well, which is good for me because I don’t like to ask for another drink, I like when a bartender notices I’m getting low and comes over and asks if I would like another. I Will definitely return for those fajitas!

Stopped here for lunch. Waitress was super friendly and the food did not disappoint. We had the onion bloom which was fantastic as an appetizer. I got the hot roast beef sandwich for my lunch which was superb. Definitely would recommend this place.

We came here after Montclair State University’s Commencement Exercises. It was surprisingly empty despite its closeness to campus. The food was overall good and the service was acceptable. My rare steak was more medium and the outside was more crispy then I like, but that’s a preference thing.

Came here with classmates and the service we had wasn’t too good. We waited long for our drinks and our check when we were done. The waitress was just chatting along the people in the bar. Food is all right.

The food was good. However there were fruit flies in my wine, and although they brought me out a new glass of wine, they still made me pay for it. Slightly disappointing.

Absolutely delicious Delmonico Steak!!! The place is very warm and inviting! The owner, Johnny, is phenomenal! He comes out to greet everyone and make sure things are to your approval! Highly recommended!

A lot of variety in their beer selection now, as compared to the past. The image at Alexus has been reinvented, and is very refreshing and inviting. I’m rarely disappointed with food. Consistently good quality. Mixed crowd, some older some younger. A tried and true dive spot. The sit down dinner is quite popular here. If not, plenty of standing room or I usually post-up at the bar. for private parties the upstairs is perfect. All in all, their location is at the heart of their business.

Stopped in on way home from a long day at work. To tired to go home and cook. Sat at bar and had a Caesar salad and a 24 oz Delmonico steak. I ordered it black and blue. Steak and salad came out at same time-no worries-it was cooked to perfection. Just the way I like it. The fries were nice and crispy to. Will definitely be back next time I don’t want to cook.

I was really excited to try this place. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to because it was clear the service was going to be so bad. After waiting at the hostess stand long enough that we could go through the menu and decide what we wanted the hostess walked up and told us she was talking to the bartenders. We had our toddler and had to ask for a booster seat. We then sat and waited while I watched the waitresses text on their phones. After awhile of no one acknowledging we were there we got up to leave. The hostess said she really didn’t think we’d waited that long and didn’t see what the issue was. Of course she was sitting with the waitresses while they were texting. The place did not appear to be well cleaned and the menus were sticky. Might be why on Black Friday at dinner time there were only two tables in the dining room. The bar looked like it was doing better.

My squad likes coming through on Monday nights to catch a football or basketball game and house some all-you-can-eat wings. Add on a couple beers and it’s a good deal(~$ 15). The bartenders are nice but I end up feeling bad cause usually they are doubling as servers. Sometimes there is one bartender working the bar and running food from the kitchen to tables. Would it be so bad if they added on a server or two at least until the kitchen closed?

To be completely fair, I’m reviewing the ribeye steak I had. My one star review is not for any of the other menu items or the bar. I was last here about 16 months ago and I had the Delmonico. I thought it was pretty good and I was very satisfied with it. Went here the other day and I had a ribeye cooked medium rare and it was one of the worst steaks I have ever had. It was«rubbery», had absolutely no flavor(I as forced to drench it in A1), and was absolutely not satisfying for the price paid. The service was great but when I’m going to a place that has«steakhouse» in its name, I expect a damn good steak! Now I have been to Old Homestead and I’m not expecting that quality here but when I can say I have had a better steak experience at Red Lobster or a Mexican restaurant, then that’s pretty pathetic for an establishment that calls themselves a steakhouse. I do however like the location and atmosphere of Alexus but that pathetic ribeye will prevent me from returning when I can get better quality elsewhere.

I honestly don’t think that it is humanly possible to put in any less effort into the food and or cocktails here. This place is an absolute dump.

Their steaks used to be much better. The steaks have no salt or pepper and cooked on high heat. Medium rare comes out with a crunchy surface. Beers are cheap on Wednesdays Lobster bisque is always amazing

I’m rating this simply for the bar/nightlife aspect of Alexus. So. The bar/nightlife. I’ve been to plenty of bars in my one year of being 21. Dive bars, chain bars, upscale-ish bars. You name them. Alexus is a college bar located right outside of my university that has this Wednesday Special of a pitcher of Rolling Rock for like $ 5(I think, I’m not a fan of the beer) which happens to pull in a large crowd of college kids. When you give us cheap beer, we don’t care how it tastes because soon enough it’ll taste like water. I’ve been here a few times and each time seemed to prove the same to me. Maybe I’m just not a fan of the environment. Maybe I’m just not a fan of the service. I don’t know, but there’s something about Alexus that I never really enjoyed. On this specific night that I checked in with Alexus with my handy-dandy Unilocal app, I was going here to celebrate my friends’ birthdays(they’re twins so it makes more sense). I head to the bar with my roomie and we order some cocktails. Jack & Ginger. Pretty simply. I don’t get either of the bartenders’ attention till about 10 minutes later. Mind you, at this point I’m basically all the way over the counter trying to get their attention. Like my chest is literally on the other side. I get one’s attention, gives me an attitude and prepares me a pretty crappy drink. Too much soda, not enough Jack. I head back for a second drink and the other bartender gets me a Blue Moon since I don’t want to take my chances with another cocktail. But this guy was actually really nice compared to the last one! I tipped him instead because he actually knows customer service. The night itself was a rowdy one. Put together a bunch of drunk college kids in a room with beer and there’s bound to be something happening. One kid couldn’t hold his booze and threw up in the back(gross). People are spilling beer everywhere(one guy get some on my Doc Martens. How dare he). I think it’s because there was only 2 bartenders that night that kinda made the service crappy. Typically they have 3. Now I never write bad reviews… but there’s something about Alexus, man. I’m sure they have good food and maybe I’ll come back one day to try it. Who knows? But if you go out on a Wednesday night for some drinks, take my review as a warning.

Would be 2.5 stars… We’ve been here twice for family gathering-related reasons. During the previous experience, we only had to wait 10 – 15 minutes for the food to come out. The food quality overall last time was just okay. But recently, everything was a totally different story. We were there for another private family gathering, and arrived at 7PM. When we got there, we expected to wait a short period of time for the food to arrive. But this time, we waited for 1LONGHOUR! This meant that we didn’t cure our«hangry»(using this word for the 1st time — :D) pains until 8pm! Even our family member who organized this gathering was extremely annoyed. This was totally unacceptable! Sure the carafes of sodas and water came out during the wait, but that didn’t make matters a lot better. The 1 hour wait was my major gripe, as well as everyone else’s who was here. After the annoying wait, the food arrived onto the serving tables. On one short table was a tray filled with garlic bread, and a bowl filled with Caesar Salad. On the big table, there were«buffet» trays with the flames lit on the bottom. Placed on the trays separately were the SPICY buffalo wings, penne vodka, seasoned chicken and broccoli with penne, calamari, quesadillas, and a mix of roasted carrots and broccoli. I didn’t eat the calamari and quesadillas at all. The buffalo wings here were no joke at all. I had a few of these, and as a result, I felt the HOT&SPICY sensation! My face turned red for a little bit, but it was all good. The wings were tasty and the flavor was spot-on. Any one who likes buffalo wings may want to try this restaurant’s style. The penne vodka was simply made up of penne with vodka sauce. Surprisingly, this wasn’t as flavorful as I thought it would be. But overall, this was just okay and obviously better than just plain penne. I also grabbed a slice of garlic bread too, and it just tasted okay as well. The seasoned chicken and broccoli with penne was simply made of just chicken, broccoli, and penne with seasoning. Even though the chicken was cooked really well, there wasn’t a lot of flavor. The broccoli and penne was cooked well too, but again, not a lot of flavor. Overall, this was just okay. The roasted carrots and broccoli consisted of just that, a long with some seasoning. I didn’t know what kind of seasoning was utilized for this, but it was quite tasty! One thing for sure, was that my vegetable craving was fulfilled from this. Overall, this was great, and much better than the Caesar Salad. The event room looked quite rustic. The walls were completely made out of wood. Even the tables and chairs(except the red padded ones) were made out of wood too. Throughout the room, there were hanged pictures of beer advertisements. Overall the food was either okay or good, which depended on what was consumed. The servers who brought out the food and drinks were nice. But unfortunately, the 1 hour long wait wasn’t satisfying. Based on all of the above, we’re hesitant about whether or not we will return.

Steakhouse/Bar/College hangout. The food is pretty good; especially the burgers. But the service can be a little slow at times. If you went on a Wednesday night, you wouldn’t even know you’re in a steakhouse. The place is usually packed with everyone from MSU and basically turns into a club. Overall it’s a pretty good place, but it has it’s moments.

I have past by this establishment for the last year and was always intrigued. Unfortunately, I was completely disappointed upon my arrival. When we walked in there was no one there to greet us, or tell us where to sit. We had to go to the bar and ask the bartender if we just sat ourselves. On top of that we couldn’t tell the difference between customers and wait staff. We were served by three different people and only one of them had their uniform on. After taking a seat, we noticed a sign for happy hour. The only problem was that happy hour was at the bar only and our waitress told us to just go up to the bar. Even after I had said it was okay I just wanted a beer, she was still insisting that I go up there. The beer was cold and not bitter so they definitely have clean draft tubes. I ordered a Caesar salad with a lobster tail, and my fiancé ordered a steak Caesar salad with no croutons. Of course the salads came and his had croutons on it. Then on top of that the Caesar dressing tasted like watered down cream. There was absolutely no taste besides the unfavorable amount of parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. The lobster tail was black at the tips indicating that it was not at all fresh. The only things I enjoyed about my meal was the croutons and the pickles they gave to us. Other than that I was not impressed. Lastly the atmosphere is not that of a steakhouse. I felt like I was in a cheesy Italian restaurant. They had the picnic table covers and the chairs looked very cheap and clashed with the table cloths. I had high hopes for this place and it was completely shot down within 10 minutes of being there.

Stopped in for happy hour and a couple of steaks with a buddy. $ 2 Coors Light drafts I loved. But, we wanted to sit near the bar, and so we had a server in the bar area, but they would only give us the drink special if we got the drinks from the bar. It seemed odd for me, and threw the meal off a little. Other than that, the service was good, but the steaks were only okay. I guess they were about appropriate to the price range. Little chance of getting a prime steak here, methinks. Anyway, haven’t been there in a few years, and I’m not running back, but I’m sure I will go back at some point. Alexus is okay.
