Specialties

Star Pop vintage + modern buys and sells toys, clothing, music, movies, books, art, house wares, and other pop culture collectibles. While many of the items in the store are new, virtually everything in the store was purchased secondhand, which means that when you shop at Star Pop you’re helping to reduce our collective environmental footprint by reducing waste and reusing existing goods.

History

Established in 2009.

STAR POP vintage + modern opened in 2009 in the Waterloo Arts District. I was looking for a hip, up and coming neighborhood and Waterloo turned out to be a great fit with live music, art, and other vintage and boutique shops filling out the rest of the street. Before opening STAR POP I had already spent many years buying, selling, and collecting. STAR POP has been featured in The Plain Dealer, Cleveland Magazine, Cleveland Scene, The Jewish News, The Collinwood Observer, CWRU’s Observer, and Cool Cleveland The store has also been showcased on Fox 8 News and WKYC 3’s Good Company. STAR POP was honored for having the «Best Vintage T-​Shirts» by Cleveland Magazine in their 2011 Best of Cleveland issue.

Business Owner

I am the owner and sole employee of Star Pop. I have been collecting and buying and selling toys, vintage clothing, music, movies, books, art, and other pop culture collectibles for about twenty years now, roughly two-​thirds of my life. A big part of what Star Pop is about is sustainability; nearly everything in the store is purchased secondhand. I don’t expect to get rich doing what I do; I do it because I am passionate about collecting and because I truly believe that sustainable businesses like Star Pop can encourage people to help cut down on waste by buying more of what they buy secondhand and by selling off or donating their unwanted items. I personally collect many of the same things that I sell in the store including records, vintage t-​shirts, children’s books, action figures, and other toys. Collecting keeps the hunt exciting and means that I am always learning something new.

Start Pop is my favorite vintage toy store in Cleveland. They have a great selection of toys, video game systems, video games, and even a small selection of vinyl and clothing. I have bought Voltron, a Tron lightcycle in the original packaging, a Sega Dreamcast, Start Trek action figures, and more here. I have also sold a few toys here and been given a good price for my old collectibles. All the toys are reasonably priced and well organized. The owner, Troy, is very knowledgeable and is helpful. If you’re stopping by the Beachland Ballroom or Music Saves, make sure you stop by Star Pop, too!

This is a definite stop while visiting Waterloo and the Collinwood area. This is a such an awesome little toy/​consignment shop that reminds you of your childhood. I scored an awesome vintage romper (I am in the photo!) that was originally a gym uniform. Thanks for the history lesson!
Plus Troy is extremely helpful at scoring those lost memories, helping me track down a specific lunch box for the holidays! What a sweetheart.

I’ve picked up everything at Star Pop from board games and books for my kids to vintage ties and clothing for myself. Troy, the owner, has even called me MONTHS later to let me know he found things I’d forgotten I ever requested!
Troy has a keen eye and a sharp memory, and he travels constantly to add to his inventory. The ever-​evolving selection at Star Pop is terrific, and Troy is knowledgeable about every single item in the store.
Well worth planning to spend some extra time on Waterloo!

basically Big Fun with old clothes and records instead of kitschy cards and books.
theres a really wide variety of stuff here. I found Philip Glass next to David Bowie and Frank Zappa in the records, and classic Raggedy Anne books next to some stuff I read as a kid that I forgot about.
for such a small place theres so much to look through, and it really warrants a visit if you’re on Waterloo. The size is maybe the only problem, its just filled to bursting.

i scored a collector’s figurine of mario from the original super mario bros. release back in the 80s at starpop, and troy was super helpful in sorting the ones that are worth collecting and ones that aren’t.
the gathering of vintage clothes has grown, and tempted me with every penny i had.

Love, love, LOVE this place! Came across it totally happenstance as I’ve never really been to the Waterloo Arts District but was swinging by to pick-​up a shirt at the C.L.E. pop-​up shop next door. Star Pop is A-​MAZ-​ING! Where were they 10 years ago when I was going through my throwback phase collecting any and all things Strawberry Shortcake and/​or Care Bears?! They have honestly anything that you could think of, and all of the stuff took me wayyyyy back — NKOTB, the Wuzzles, Muppets, Pee-​Wee, Barbie and the Rockers — the list could go on! Not to mention the prices are totally legit. Some of the vintage shirts they have could totally be sold LA for $ 40−50+ but they’re $ 10 – 20 here and in great condition. I’m so excited to wear my new sweatshirt! I thought that the other place (which shall remain nameless) on Coventry was the shit, but Star Pop is my new jam! I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town. They also buy stuff, which I might have to inquire about once my parents sell their house… but just not Rainbow Pup, I could never part with Rainbow Pup! Oh — and just so you’re prepared as I was not — it’s cash only.

They also have a nice selection of vintage clothes (adult and kid sizes), books, and movies. I got a Care Bear (Cheer Bear) that matches the one I have from my youth, which my husband was just about to kill me for still owning! Now I can give this new one to our kid. Cheer Bear lives on! My husband got two boxes of NFL trading cards. To each his own. LOVED this place!

A toystore for those of us that are still obsessed with the 80’s, when toys were the best. You can find Thundercats, She-​ra, Smurfs, G.I. Joe, Care Bears, NKOTB dolls, Simpsons, Muppets, etc. There are lunchboxes from all eras. You can also find old school Nintendo and Sega Genesis games here. The list goes on and on. The guy who runs the place is so nice and if you’re looking for something in particular, he will tell you if they have it. It’s still a wee bit disorganized but he’s getting there. This place really is a find, but watch out because it’s easy to get sucked into nostalgia here. :)
