Spay Neuter Clinic: Cleveland

I brought my 2 cats here for a spay and neuter a month ago. Overall, I am happy with my decision to take them to the Spay Neuter Clinic rather than to their regular vet. Basically, it was my only option because I couldn’t afford the surgeries with their regular vet. I really appreciate that there are vets and vet techs that dedicate their time to delivering important pet care like this. It is definitely a fraction of the cost to go to the Spay Neuter Clinic and I can’t imagine the staff is making very much at the end of the day, so you gotta give props to them. Both of my cats had their surgeries and are doing very well since. A very nice woman spoke with me when I came to pick up my cats after their surgeries and talked me through how to take care of them at home, how to give the pain meds I opted for, and even gave me some verbal doctors notes from the vet.
Now, be aware, it is by no means a glamorous office (it is pretty dingy, but a fancy office costs $$$) and the whole check in/​drop off process is a little rough (and a little traumatic — for both pets and parents). Keep in mind that there are going to be a lot of people scheduled on the same day as your appointment (I think there were at least a dozen people there the day I went) and some of those people will have more than one pet with them, so the check in process takes awhile. There will also be a wide range of animals in a very small room, from very large and hyperactive adult dogs down to itty bitty little scared kittens. Definitely stressful for the cats in the room and their owners, so if you have a cat be prepared for that. Also, there was only one woman trying to check everyone in and get information on each pet, so the check in process was a little stressful and disorganized. People were getting agitated (even though she was doing her best) — so having 2 people during the check in process would have been helpful.
So, keep all of this in mind. Basically, this is a no frills option for having something very important done for your pet. If you have limited financial resources, this really is a great choice because the most important thing is that you have your pet spayed or neutered. It is probably a more stressful choice than an appointment at your regular veterinarian’s office, so you have to weigh that into your decision — sometimes the added comfort of a more streamlined process and familiarity with your doctor outweighs any of the financial considerations. Maybe check it out first if you’re worried. But really, this is a solid SOLID choice for a spay/​neuter for your cat or dog.

I think it’s ridiculous that my cats are now required to have a rabies vaccine while getting neutered/​spayed. My cats are strictly indoors and this irritated me. The appointment setting is inconsistent. I asked for an appointment a week from the one that was «available» and it wasn’t available and the next day I called as a different person and low and behold the one appointment I wanted was suddenly available. Coincidence, something opened up I’m not sure but it was annoying.

Cost was reasonable for spaying and shots. However, I asked for a prescription for heartworm medication since my regular vet was cheaper. They charged $ 7.00 just for writing the script. Thought that was a bit ridiculous. They also never gave me the rabies vaccine metal tag. They said they ran out and would mail one to me. I have contacted them 3 times and still no tag. Now I’m wondering about the legitimacy of the vaccine. As cheap as they were, I wish I had went to my regular vet.
This may sound petty to some, but I also hate when people I don’t know call me «Honey.» So each time I have called to get the tag, not only am I frustrated that I’m wasting my breath, I have to hear from the receptionist «it’s in the mail Honey.»

Spay Neuter Clinic was just what the doctor ordered for my cats. While staying in Ohio caring for a sick relative, I rescued three cats from a kill shelter out of state that requires the adopter to get them spayed/​neutered within a certain period of time. The cats were all sick with URIs coming from the shelter and needed combo tests as well, so I had already spent a few hundred dollars on their vet care getting them past all that before even looking for a place to do the required spay/​neuters. I was not anxious to spend an additional 100 to 150 dollars per cat to get them fixed, especially since I had three to all get done at once and could not use the discount vouchers provided by the kill pound without driving the three cats 8 hours back to the state they came from.
As these were all very young cats and the spay/​neuter looked uncomplicated, I went looking for an inexpensive spay place in NE OH using a list provided by some NE OH humane society. I discovered that one place on the list was no longer offering the discount service and would charge as much as my vet; another had terrible reviews for jacking up the price with extra services after the animal arrived at the vet; and a third, run by the SPCA, did not have an opening for several weeks, which was not desirable given that my female had already been caged with intact males at the stupid shelter and thus could already be in an early stage of pregnancy for all I knew. Fortunately I found Spay Neuter Clinic who wasn’t far from my NE OH house and could take the animals right away, the following week.
Spay Neuter Clinic staff were pleasant, understanding when I got stuck in traffic driving the cats to their morning drop-​off appointment and was late, did not try to push additional services on me, and had the cats done in one day. You drop off in the morning, they call you by noon to let you know how the animal is doing, then you pick up by 3:30 pm. If you are familiar with discount spay/​neuter places (as many of us involved in cat rescue are), this is a much more relaxed environment than some of the places where if you don’t show up precisely by 7 am or whatever you’re kicked off the list. It’s been a couple weeks and everybody looks to be healing up nicely with no complications. So if you have an animal young enough and of the type to have an uncomplicated operation (e.g. not a cat over age 5, a visibly pregnant cat, or a pushy faced cat) I would recommend Spay Neuter Clinic. It is not a snazzy place but it gets the job done.

I took my 5month old male puppy to be neutered here a few days ago. The staff was so friendly and informative. I picked up my pup later that day and he walked out with his tail wagging, looking like he didn’t even have surgery! His incision site is healing up very nicely and the pain medication that they supplied seems to be working great. I was skeptical at first, but I definitely wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a friend… you’ll save money and get the same results as a privately owned veterinarian practice!

I’ve taken all if my pets here over the years and have had different experiences each time. Two cats were spayed, and recently I took my dog here to get neutered and have his dew claws removed.
You get what you pay for. So so true. My most recent experience of taking my dog in was a total nightmare. I dropped him off in the morning and was with him while he was being examined and they told me that they would call me around ½ to let me know what time I could pick him up, but typical pick up time was 4:30. I waited for them to call and didn’t hear anything back so I called them at 5:00, explaining what happened. They told me I could pick him up at 6:30. I didn’t even know that they were open that late.
So a week later, he has a really terrible cough. He was up all night coughing so I took him to my preferred vet’s office the next morning. They ask if he had been boarded recently and I told them that he had surgery the week before. I have to take him outside because he probably has kennel cough, which is really contagious. Well, an exam, shot, two bottles of medication and $ 100 later, he’s got what he needs.
I call the spay and neuter clinic on a Friday about taking him in to get his back stitches removed and tell the receptionist that he has kennel cough, that he got it from there, he hasn’t been around any other dogs, he’s had a lot of surgery. She tells me I can take him in through the back door to not infect other dogs. I call Monday to take him in. The receptionist (different one) tells me that he can’t come inside, they will have to remove his stitches outside, ON THE SIDEWALK. Um, no. I explain that he was vaccinated 6 weeks ago and that he still got kennel cough so it’s just floating around in there. He didn’t get it out of nowhere. She explains that it’s safe. Have you SEEN the sidewalk in that plaza? I don’t understand how that’s a reasonable solution. He’s a puppy, he gets excited, if he jumps up because he sees a dog and he gets cut? No thank you. That doesn’t sound safe or sanitary, but they obviously don’t care enough about sanitation or verifying that dogs are actually vaccinated or if dogs that are admitted are sick.
No yes, I’m never ever coming back. I don’t care how cheap it is. I don’t think that it’s right to perform surgical procedures on the sidewalk, nor do I think the ASPCA would agree.

I took my kitten here because it was the cheapest option (Vet quoted $ 250 to have her spayed). The waiting room in the morning was pretty crowded, but my cat was fine. The staff was great and was able to act like each person had the cutest dog or cat they had ever seen. They called when I could pick her up and my cat had zero issues! They explained how to take care of her afterwards, and told me how she behaved while I was gone.

Ya know that saying, «You get what you pay for?» That applies here. I’ve been there twice with two different cats. I have one cat who freaks out at the vet. Typically I have to give him valium to calm him down. You’re not allowed to be with your animal while they’re being examined or getting shots. I don’t like this. I want to be able to ask questions and be informed of my pets health. My other cat was taken there to get neutered. He was fine, however, I was bothered that when I walked in I saw a dog on an operating table with his legs up in the air. I presume the dog was getting fixed but seriously… close the door. Nobody needs to see that. And isn’t that a bit of a sanitary issue? Personally, I’ll never go back, regardless of how broke I might be. I’d recommend Gateway for pet care instead. It’s slightly more expensive but still way cheaper than a private veterinarian and the care is a million times better.

I’m very impressed.
At low costs, I was able to drop off my dog quickly before work and I’ll be picking him up after work. The staff was VERY friendly and dealt both with the crazy Tasmanian devil dog before me and were lovey dovey on my dog (who was far from devil-​ish).
They also work frequently with local rescues, do cats, and dogs.

This place is phenomenal! We took our cat, Sasha, here to get spayed a couple weeks ago and were very pleased. The staff was so nice to us and was very understanding when I told them I wasn’t going to make it on time for their drop-​off time because it was snowing badly on the day I went. We got her in and she was immediately taken in for her initial check-​up. The vet and his assistant were very knowledgeable and addressed all my questions and concerns about her healing period after her surgery. We picked her up and check-​out was easy, Sasha was happy (albeit drugged up), and they thoroughly explained again what to expect with her and how to take care of her. Their prices are very reasonable too so i would recommend them to anyone!
