I’ve been coming to Shaker Heights Hardware since I was a kid in the ‘50s. I’m pleased to say that it’s still a great place, well-​organized and staffed with pleasant people who are happy to help. This past month, I needed a replacement pane on a 30-​plus year-​old storm-​door window. They put new plexiglass in at a reasonable price. When I lost the ticket for the pick-​up, that was no problem. They looked me up in fifteen seconds. Recommended!

The staff is so friendly and helpful. They almost always have what I’m looking for. 180 degrees from the impersonal, overwhelming experience of the big box hardware stores. I’m happy to support this lovely local business!

Me: «I just bought a used recliner that is a little rickety. If I stop by with it now while it’s still in my truck, would you mind taking a few minutes and looking at it with me?»
Them: «No. Today is a bad day to do that since we close at 1:00.»
I was calling at 11AM. Weak.
I then called Van Aken Hardware and they said, «Sure. No problem. Bring it on by.» They guy helped me take it out of my truck, we flipped it over, he told what I needed to do, then we went inside and he gathered everything I needed. Super helpful.
Shaker Hardware could learn a lot from Van Aken Hardware.

They are wonderful people who help you solve the problems of old houses (or new ones). Endlessly patient, they teach what you don’t understand. For my husband, a weekend without Shaker Heights Hardware is like a weekend without sunshine.

I love this place. They have everything for the home, new or old.
They do a great job copying keys. I took a key to 5 other places. This is the only place that could copy it right.
They are a little pricey, but are local and seem to have everything, including the old stuff.
