I always stop here after doing yoga on Saturday mornings! I’ve had a couple different drinks off of the menu and have loved them every time. The staff is nice and accommodating. I also love the shop itself, especially all of the locally made art.

Great coffee & desserts. Perfect place to end the night or start the day. Fantastic décor and paintings. Love the staffs beards. Friendly atmosphere and a great place to concentrate or bring a couple of friends to sit and chill. Cookies were refrigerated and that’s not my cup of tea. I prefer hot fresh baked cookies. Also don’t forget to pick up a postcard or Cleveland apparel while your in.

Really great atmosphere and even better coffee. Free wifi’s good too. Hung out here for awhile while my friends and I were waiting to get into the Relient K concert. Pretty chill. You should check it.

Well, my last review was taken down. Someone got butthurt. Hipster coffee shop with Downtown prices. The 2 kids working there had ZERO personality and I paid 4.00 for an iced coffee with tip. I would rather have freeze-​dried Tasters Choice and skip the young professionals and hipster crap. I miss the old E 4^th when you could still buy rocks, you didnt have to valet your car or pay to park…
PS…This is my experience so owner can keep reporting and having reviews taken down. I will keep writing new ones of my experience, worded more eloquently… ta ta!

I’ve heard about this place through a co-​worker and I decided to check it out before I headed to work. It is located on E.4^th street near Lola’s. I have a habit of checking out menus before visiting a place so I can have an idea of what to order. One thing that I discovered is items listed on the menu for that particular location is not always true when you actually visit the location. For example, on the menu website for the Downtown location, they have more flavors for a smoothie and even have the Bacon Egg and Cheese Crush listed. Now when I actually went to the Downtown location, the Bacon, Egg and Cheese Crush is not listed but Ham, Egg and Cheese is… so I asked for the bacon one and the server stated that it is extra to substitute (even though it is listed on the Downtown menu on the website). As far as the smoothies, majority of the flavors I saw on the Downtown menu wasn’t even listed on the menu at the actual location. The server was nice enough to accommodate my request for no trace of bananas when making my strawberry smoothie (long story short, I have a banana allergy or intolerance). I also purchased a cinnamon roll (looks really good). The sandwich was super duper crispy… too hard for me lol, I wasn’t too thrilled of the smoothie and didn’t like the cinnamon roll.
Just thought the pricing was silly, charging to swap out meats that’s the same price or even when it is listed on the menu on the website (but still get charge extra).
Too pricey, not really worth it…

This place had above average coffee and is the perfect spot to people watch. I had their cold brew and sat outside. Seating is great and the staff were kind. I recommend this spot!

This place was really disappointing. I went in after seeing all the great reviews for a breakfast sandwich and coffee. The only breakfast sandwich option had ham on it but the menu offered some customization so I asked if they could just put egg and spinach on a bagel. They said no, that was prohibited. I thought it was a joke at first but the dude was just rude. So I ordered the «Irish Oatmeal» with Agave instead. The guy then grabbed two packets of instant oatmeal, dumped them into a takeaway coffee cup and added hot water. I’m giving two stars because the coffee was atleast as good as Starbucks.

Good coffee and nice ambiance. Nice place to hang out for awhile. They pull their own shots, so no automated machine here. Love the furniture.

Nice place for casual relaxing breakfast on a Saturday morning. Breakfast sandwiches, pastries and good coffee. Friendly courteous service and reasonably priced. Worth the try.

I’ve been here a few times and have yet to be disappointed. I love their hot chocolate and chai tea. So much better than Starbucks.

Great place! Very pleasant to sit at the coffee bar or outside. Excellent baristas creating wonderful drinks with coffee that is rich and flavorful. One of the best coffee shops in Cleveland.

This place has wonderful coffee, a great selection of sandwiches and a nice space to sit and chill. I wish I could say the service matched. To say the service was lacking would be a serious understatement.
I’ve worked downtown for several years and since Erie Island opened, I have been going there. Unfortunately the service has been awful every visit ever since day 1. I continue to torture myself because the coffee is actually good and most days, who wouldn’t want a good cup of Joe?
If you have larger orders meaning anything other than what your ordering for yourself, please expect dirty looks and eye rolls.
If you call to warn about larger orders… you will get a response like this (without fail EVERYTIME) «We don’t take orders over the phone, this isn’t Panera».
I took an order for my entire staff of 12 people, some of them also ordered sandwiches as they should be allowed to because the menu clearly shows sandwiches offered. When we walked in and up to the counter with our large order we were asked by the manager if we were going to make this a habit and how frequently they should expect this from us because its inconvenient for them… Last time I checked you are a coffee shop that has set hours Monday thru Sunday located downtown in a growing metropolis. As long as I come between the hours listed on the front door, there should be no discrepancies with ordering any number of items from the Menu posted on the wall.
After the rude remarks we received, other customers who walked in after us were given snide comments about the long wait they had ahead of them thanks to large orders that walked in, in front of them.
Finally after 30 minutes of listening to this type of behavior, our order was done. I can promise that I will walk the extra 3 blocks to Starbucks or even drive to Rising Star, before I ever go back to Erie Island Coffee Shop again.
To everyone out there, I support local businesses as much as possible but I have to draw a line somewhere at some point and that’s now. I recommend Rising Star in Ohio City and if you are downtown, either remember to bring your own coffee with you or hit up the Starbucks. No one deserves to be treated like that, especially from a stranger who has no idea what’s going on with each individual that walks thru the door.

Great place to people watch, from the seats in the front window. My mocha was smooth and flavorful, and the cashier was very nice. My muffin was a bit overbaked, though.

Contrary to some previous reviews about bad/​rude service, the woman who took my order was particularly nice and bubbly. I was able to dive in here to escape the harsh snow and windstorm last week. Overall, I actually really liked this spot, the coffee was average, and the inside was still clean even when the weather was particularly harsh. I wish I could have spent more time in here.

Overall the space is very cool. But what warranted this 2 star is the attitude of the cashier. When we inquired about a few drinks we heard «that won’t be that good» «that will be bitter» we ended up ordering something we didn’t want, and grabbed a pre-​bottled drink.
What I did get was average weak and still bitter. I’m a very very experienced coffee drinker, you offer a single origin and don’t have it brewing as a drip which ok, cool. But then you tell me it sucks as a pour-​over?! Why offer it? And a real pour-​over should reveal the clarity of a coffees flavor. If it is in fact «not good» maybe you just can’t make a proper pour-​over or you just have a crappy coffee on your hands.
My experience was as bitter as the coffee I ended up with, along with a poor experience with the staff.

I was visiting Cleveland from Houston and I had to spend couple hours in place until my flight back and it was very good experience.
I tried there macchiato– very strong– dark coffee very good.

Downtown Cleveland really doesn’t have much to do in my opinion. Sure there is the casino, some restaurants and bars here and there, but it just isn’t like a LA or DC. Nonetheless, I was able to find a nice little independent coffee shop in downtown Cleveland. Erie Island Coffee Company is its name and I hope its here to stay.
This coffee shop is located with on 4^th St across from the House of Blues. The coffee shop isn’t large by any means, but there is plenty of seating for everyone to sip their drink. Once you grab your seat, then it’s time to order your nice cup of joe. For me, my drink of choice is the cappuccino. For about $ 4, you get a nice smooth cup. The cappuccino had a nice creamy taste to it, and made just as good as I would have expected. Aside from espresso drinks, you can get regular drip coffee, which is freshly roasted by Erie Island.
If you have an extra $ 5 and an empty stomach, the you might want to consider getting a sandwich here. I ended up not getting one, but there are about 5 different ones to choose from. The staff here is pretty nice, although I did think that it did take a little long to make my cappuccino. There wasn’t even anyone else waiting for a drink! Nonetheless, their coffee tastes pretty damn good, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the best coffee that Cleveland has to offer. Hey, I even snagged a pound of beans to go!
