Southern Steer Butcher

Gotta admit I was pretty shocked when I saw this Butcher Shop open up a few years ago because it seemed about as wise a business investment as a Video Store or Fotomat would be in this day and age… I mean how is a little butcher shop going to compete on price and/​or quality against the buying power of The Whole Foods. Fresh Markets. and Publixes of the world?.. Well it turns out the owners had a great idea that no one else was doing. marinated beef… pork. and chicken in a variety of sauces like Thai Peanut. Sweet Asian Chile.Teryaki.Chipotle.Cajun.Margarita.Argentine.Italian.etc…They have some crazy machine that looks like what Matt Damon was in during his long Hypersleep in The Martian that they put all the meats and marinates in and then it is some sort of vacuum that lets the marinate permeate all thru the meat making it incredibly juicy and tender. It makes grilling out idiot proof, because it makes overcooking and drying out any of their meat virtually impossible. I like them all, but I have to say the best and many other customers favorite is The Argentine Beef. they also have a «regular» meat market along with a seafood area as well… I have seen a few of the local BBQ Pitmasters buying their ribs here to give you an idea what the pros think of their meat. Southern Steer will also make you the standard Deli Sandwiches using Boars Head Meats, but they will also prepare some specialty sandwiches using their marinated meats… the store is also stocked with sauces.oils.marinates.cheeses.beers.etc which are mostly from Florida Based Producers which goes with the current food trend of sourcing local ala Ulele… If I had to list my favorites from Southern Steer for a first timer to pick up it would have to include The Argentine Beef… Chorizo. Jalapeño Cheddar Stuffed Potatoes… Buffalo Chicken Dip and the Lime Tortilla Chips… it’s really one of those places I don’t think you can make a bad choice though, because after many visits I have never gotten anything bad… I also have to mention the staff behind the counter is very friendly and always quick to answer any questions you have… they are definitely an asset to the store… Southern Steer is an easy 5 star recommendation, but once you go there you are never going to be happy going anywhere else when you want to grill out… it has made the meat counters at Whole Foods. Fresh Market. and Publix obsolete and your supporting a local Bay Area Business… do yourself a favor and go the next time your cooking out and you will be very happy

Love this place… I went there first time a couple weeks ago and bought 2 pounds of there marinated steak tips just to try them out. Went back and started buying their package deals, my freezer is now stocked with meat from Southern Steer.

This place is fantastic. For lunch I just had an Argentine steak tips panini that might be among the ten best sandwiches I’ve ever had. My wife had a club that was also quite good. They have a very good selection of sausages, steaks, cheeses, side items, sauces… Basically heaven if you’re planning a cook out. Lots of local items for sale here too, which I greatly appreciate. We will most definitely be back soon.

We’ve been coming here since they opened. We’ve never gotten anything here that was bad and we’ve tried it all! Their fish spread is impeccable. The steak tips are amaze-​balls. Every flavor. We are partial to the teriyaki but every flavor is delicious. And they’re great because you literally can’t ruin them. Their sausage and brats are so good. Everything is fresh. We are so happy we got an amazing butcher shop in Palm harbor so close to our house with reasonable prices. Thank you Southern Steer for being amazing!

After reading all the other reviews, my husband and I knew we had to try it out. We were greeted immediately upon coming in. The store is laid out really well and there is more than just meat! They had beer, wine, veggies, snacks, rubs, sauces, etc. We did the #1 value pack that came with the marinated meats. The gentleman we worked with walked us through the process and gave us suggestions on things to try. We got much more meat than we would at another grocery store for a great price. I am excited to try the meat and hopefully become a weekly visitor to the store.

Unbelievable and amazing are only a few words to describe the Steakhouse Beef Tips! We’ve tried pretty much every flavor they have for the beef tips and chicken breast, and let me tell you, you won’t be disappointed! The staff are amazing and very helpful. The store is very clean and always stocked up with great pre made meals of some sort. Buffalo chicken dip is also great!

I love this place! I have pretty much stopped getting meat anywhere else. Their marinated steak tips are the absolute best. The Steak House ones are my favorite, though I’ve tried the butter garlic and the teriyaki and they were both really good too. I also got a prime rib for Christmas dinner last year and was not disappointed. It was amazing and everyone loved it. Everyone that works there is super nice and friendly plus they have a pretty great rewards program. I highly recommend, especially if you’re tired of mediocre supermarket meats.

I had the jerk chicken selfish! Only purchased two for three of is my son is nearly 13 so he eats a lot! We had enough left over to make chicken salad just added mayo in fridge for one day… my husband said sorry best chicken I have ever had!

I honestly don’t want to even write a review since I love this place so much and don’t want to draw a crowd here to my favorite butcher around the corner! This place have high quality meat and packaged goods worth serving to any crowd or just at family dinner. Plus the monthly meals and burger classes are worth the trip to Clearwater.

This has become my favorite place to purchase meat. Everything is always so fresh and delicious. The staff are also very friendly and are super knowledgable about all products.

Helpful doesn’t seem to do it justice when describing the staff. Great variety in cuts and pre marinaded items. My only ‘complaint’ is the limited, what some people might consider specialty item, choices of grass fed beef. Don’t misunderstand. They do offer a few cuts of grassfed which can be found in their freezer section. So for someone like me looking for bison, grassfed options, and more specialty items you would need to wait for when you have a big enough order for them to special order it.
The next time I go I’m going to look into this more but to say how great this place is through text just cannot give it justice. For 95% of the meats you will need, they have it. Everyone should shop here instead of giving money to the grocery chains.

So happy I found this place! Friendly inviting staff. Moving from California I have had the most difficult time finding someone who knew what tri tip was, and then the clouds parted and the heavens shined a light that lead me straight to southern steer butcher!!! I will shout it from the roof tops these guys get meat and understand the love of good food.

If you’re a hunter, they will butcher for you. Bring it dressed and quartered and in a cooler with ice in top.
The place is nice an open, very clean and they’ve got a very adventurous variety of meat. By Adventurous I don’t mean strange meats. They’ve got a whole bunch of really cool and very interesting sounding marinades. They’re meat is all very high quality, they offer local seafood (which I’m always a fan of supporting local businesses) and they’ve got it all VERY nicely laid out. They even sell beer and wine there. Technically, you could go buy all of your dinner needs there and just go straight home and cook it up!
They also offer catering which is pretty awesome for a butcher. You know when they cook for you that the food will be literally as fresh as you can get it aside from doing it all yourself!

The rib roast for Christmas dinner was a triumph ! Now I have a butcher named Tony! Since I’m not very technical savvy, I procrastinate a tech things, I returned to rhe shop and tried the Argentina marinade steak tips and the andoiule sausages. Wow, and wow!
The sausage made a perfect addition to gumbo. Spicy, but not too hot. Delish!
The steak tips were perfect. A tender flavorful and easy to prepare lunch. So tender I will ve using for my next company meal,

We stopped in here the first weekend they were open. I tried a sample of the Cajun marinated steak. It was terrific; just a little bit of heat, very tender.
One of their specialties is their housemade sausage. I bought three types of homemade sausage: hot Italian, chicken Florentine and breakfast sausage. All of them were terrific. I grilled the chicken Florentine sausage, then served it with pasta and pesto. It was a hit with the family.

Very clean. Great cuts of chicken, pork, and beef. The marinated meats are really good. Great selection of beer and spices too. I got some brisket to make in my crock pot and it was absolutely amazing!
The only thing keeping this from 5 stars is, no seafood.

Locate just couple doors next to Clearwater Home Depo on US 19, this newly opened butcher shop shouldn’t worry too much about the source of customers. You won’t get starved by swim with the big fish.
First thing that impresses me is how clean and well organized the shop is. At the entrance, there are cooler sections for dairy product, fresh made pasta, chilled beer, and small area for fresh vegetable; In the middle of the shop, there are shelves for processed food, seasoning and spices. They sell wine as well.
The shop sell point is definitely its meat section. Half of the cooler carries marinated meat including pork, beef and chicken with at least 3 flavors for each product. One of the staff gave me the nine yard of how they prepare the meat. There is a special mixer in the preparation room at the back. It vacuums air out of the chamber to compress the flavor into the meat within shorter time. I think it is a brilliant idea.
They also carries hand cut fresh beef, pork, lamb, and there is a separate section for fresh seafood. Price for the products are reasonable. However, it is not Publix so they can’t give you too much discount. There is also deli section sells Boar’s Head products. Give them couple days in advance if you want to make a special order.
To see how good their marinated meat is, I bought ‘sun-​dried tomato flavor’ chicken breast to try. I have to say, it has met my expectation.
