Clarion Inn & Suites

The hotel was very friendly. Room was clean although dated (including the older versions of sleep number mattresses). Buffet breakfast free to guest was nice compared to the normal donuts and toast of the normal offered breakfast. Great stay in my opinion, very happy with my visit.

I did a lot of searching when booking my 3-​night stay in Clearwater. Ideally, I would have liked to have stayed on the beach in Clearwater Beach, however that wasn’t in my price range. I wanted a relatively short drive to that area, and it was about a 20 minute drive, which wasn’t bad… you PAY to stay close to the beach, if you don’t want to pay that amount, expect a drive, so I don’t know why people complain this is no where near the beach and nothing is around here… if you do your research in advance, you will learn all of this.
Moving on… I got a decent book in advance deal, however the amenities I booked this place based from weren’t even up to par! For starters, the sleep number bed for my king size bed wasn’t working… half of the bed was softer than the other half. The POOL was being worked on, and there was NO word of that on their website when I booked a few weeks in advance, but when I got my confirmation email a few days before my trip along with the message of «no cancellations, refunds, etc» was when I was informed of this. Nothing like traveling to Florida in April in mid 80-​degree weather to maybe want some pool time, leaving me to drive to the beach, pay for parking, etc. I was NOT happy not being informed of this in advance. I didn’t book my trip 6 months in advance either.
One night during my stay, I got back from the beach and wanted to shower before heading back out for dinner, etc. only to find the water completely OFF. I called the front desk and they said it would be on within the half hour. Another mishap… not really happy about the timing of that.
I’m also not sure why people look at this place as a hotel, it’s not … it’s your typical motel made of 2 – 3 stories. The grounds are nice, the rooms are ok, the staff are nice, as well as the lobby. Again, you get what you pay for… overall it was a decent deal given the pool was there, and the sleep number bed worked.
As for safety, I wasn’t thrilled with being a female staying alone in a room all the way at the end in room 155, though I checked in late at night… and during my stay, I felt safe for the most part.
And lastly, the staff in the bar/​restaurant were super nice… I placed a few take out orders from there, the food was pretty good. I’m not sure why people are complaining about the breakfast — there were eggs, pancakes, cereal, bacon, sausage, muffins, etc. A LOT more than your typical continential breakfast, so one star for the breakfast alone.
If I were to return to the Clearwater area, I saw other options nearby… I probably wouldn’t stay here again, though I did mention some positives that may help others decide in the future.

Stayed here for 5 nights and would never stay there again. We had 3 rooms while we were there! First night we walked into our room and the smell or mold and must was terrible. Finally we got a room that was ok and didn’t smell too bad. The place is run down and noisy. There were people outside our room one night yelling until midnight. Also the pictures online are deceiving, you think you are staying in a hotel but once you walk through to the back of the main entrance and out to your room, it’s a motel. All the rooms open to the outside. I didn’t feel to safe there at all. There is a free breakfast but it not edible! I thought I was getting a deal at about sixty dollars a night but I would have spent more to stay at the Marriott or Hilton down the street. One more thing, we went to go In the pool and it was totally empty and under construction! It was a total disappointment. Would never go back.

Stayed here for the weekend for a Backgammon Tournament and the maid on Saturday morning was nice enough to knock on my door at 8:35 am to see if I was ready to have my room mad up?
Then the room where we were playing Backgammon the air conditioner was broken so the room was over 80 degrees.
Then I left my phone charger in the room when i checked out and the same aforementioned maid took it but never turned it into lost and found.
summary:if you stay here they will wake you up early steal your stuff and during your meetings make you sweat like a pig.
Great place… NOT

Location location location — this location is definitely not convenient for anything other than going to the mall or near by costco. Clearwater beach is at least a 20 minute drive so if you are going for a small period of time and for the beach, this is no where near it.
Outlook — from the outside and lobby, the hotel looks great (I’m presuming they renovated these areas), however the rooms are horrible. We got a corner room so the size was great for two people! However the carpet always felt moist, the room smelled musty and «bleachy» clean at the same time along with cigarette smoke (even though they were non smoking rooms), the microwave’s internal rotating wheels were broken, and the bathroom was ridiculously small. The ceiling and some of the metal fixtures in the bathroom had black spots on them (either mold or something peeled? I wasn’t sure). The carpet had massive spots and definitely did not look clean at all. The lounge chair was also moist and the desk chair had weird spots which looked like mud had splattered on it. The bed was supposedly a sleep number but the controls did not work. It was apparently plugged into some loose socket which also led to both bedside lamps randomly flickering. The towels were clean and they provided in room coffee maker and iron which were great! We didn’t get a chance to use the pool or hot tub but other visitors seemed to be enjoying them the day we left. Also, the day of your check out, your hotel key stops working exactly at 12 pm (time of check out). So if you leave the hotel room to go put stuff in your car, you will be locked out. The employees (front desk, cleaning crew) were super nice though! This hotel needs to renovate the dark dreary moist rooms BADLY.
Food: We had breakfast for two of the three days at the hotel and it was SUB PAR. «Hot breakfast» apparently means scrambled eggs, sausage links, some weird mash of potatoes and other meats, along with toast, yogurt, a couple standard cereals, and coffee/​tea. Breakfast is 6.30−9.30 am regardless of the day of the week and if you arrive at 9.15, they have already removed half the options. I have had better hot breakfasts at other hotels which included french toast, waffles, etc. Even the 2 star hotel we stayed at for one night in clearwater had better options than this.
Room Tip: Stay away from the bar area — it tends to get a bit loud.

Stayed here on business about six weeks ago, first time. The rate is not $ 59, at least not for business account. Had a suite on first floor next to emergency exit, which people kept using to smoke so the door was constantly slamming all night long then people locked out would bang on the door trying to to get back in instead of going to the front entrance. We never opened the door for those idiots. Spoke to the front desk who could do nothing about it. The sleep number bed did not work at all. I always travel with flip flops for the nasty carpets and showers. I don’t feel like getting athletes foot. I bring my own can of Lysol for all the knobs, remote control and furniture. The breakfast is above average and Clarion is better than the Days Inn.

First the positive: very good breakfast with real eggs and a fuller selection than most free breakfasts. Staff was friendly and kept the rooms clean and well stocked. Beautiful pool and courtyard. Now the negative: the rooms are old and in disrepair. One of our sleep number beds didn’t work and stayed hard as a rock. The worst thing is the smell, however. Our first room was supposed to be non-​smoking, but it smelled so bad of smoke (and woke us up several times during the night with fresh smoke wafting through the ventilation system) that we asked for a new room the next day. They gave us the last one they had, and when we first walked in it smelled fine. However, when we returned that night it was just as bad as the first room! We discovered the room next door had smokers in it (we saw them), so it’s pointless to have a non– smoking room next door to a smoking room! Again, it wafted in through the ventilation system. But the worst part was it wasn’t just normal smoke… It was the pungent smell of pot! It was truly nauseating each time we came in the room. If you are sensitive to smoke, go somewhere else!

The staff were wonderful — very helpful and friendly. The room was lacking though. Very outdated, really needs some TLC. Also, one of the sleep number remotes wasn’t working. The room clean enough I suppose and didn’t smell. Location is nice and overall it worked for our needs.

Smelly is an understatement for this hotel!
If it’s true that second hand smoke affects you then do not stay here. The rooms stink of cigarettes, the hallways, AC, curtains, even the front desk!
As I read the previous reviews, I don’t understand how it would be possible to rate this hotel any higher than a 2 stars. Maybe my smell/​clean standards are higher than most.
As we walked into the room and put out things down, I removed the bed comforter — do you know why? Because it had cigarette burn holes. We laid towels on the carpet to walk, since it was very dusty.
Unfortunately, we had to stay here because out show was starting in less than an hour and we needed to get ready.
Never will clarion hotel see me again!

This is an older hotel that has both interior corridor rooms and rooms that open to an exterior walkway/​balcony.
Sleep number beds in all rooms. I was a bit hesitant about that at first, but quickly realized it is a nice perk. While the bed was hard as a rock when lying down initially, it softened up to that spot that is just perfect for my taste.
The rooms are basic with a decent sized TV (didn’t use it, so no clue as to the channel selection.) and a mini fridge. The sinks are outside the bathrooms in a small alcove.
The room was clean as were the sheets.
The rooms do show there age /​wear. Flaking and pealing paint in some of the harder to reach areas in the bathroom, patches areas on the walls and obvious signs of waterdamage water damage on the ceiling. But no leaks when it rained. AC unit is a bit loud when it cycles on and makes a rattling sound.
Overall a fair value for what i paid.

I have to start off by saying that I didn’t actually stay in this hotel, but I did go to a conference there last week. It was very nice place — the conference room was clean, and the staff was extremely friendly.
The hotel staff greeted everyone in our group, took their drink orders, and got us whatever we needed to set up our presentation. They really went out of their way for us, and it showed.
So, while I can’t recommend this hotel for overnight visits, if you are looking to hold a conference or a meeting, this would be a good choice!

If you like smelly motels, this is your place. Even though we specifically booked a non-​smoking room, it reeked of stale smoke and the nauseating chemical that places of this nature use to cover up filth. There were ants crawling on the bathroom floor, the toilet ran constantly, the bathroom door wouldn’t close, and the smell was over powering. I tried to get our room changed, but they assured me there were no other rooms available. We stayed because we had no other choice, but we were out of there bright and early in the morning without even using the shower. It just didn’t seem worth the risk. Two stars is generous.

What a pleasant surprise. I was arriving late PIE and this hotel was about 8 mile from the airport. Checking in was easy. The room was a good size, and clean, flat screen TV and a small fridge. The bed was king size with sleep master mattress and good pillows.
The morning breakfast was substantial, bacon, potatoes, scrambled eggs, fresh Florida fruit salad, breads, cereals, juices and coffee. The person in charge of the breakfast was constantly overseeing his station making sure everything was hot and well stocked. There is a good size pool and jacuzzi I did not have time to use. There is a small bar and restaurant which I was not able to visit. Wi fi is free and easy to log on. This is a well run hotel and very good value for money.

Just stayed at this hotel for Labor Day weekend. Front desk attendant was horrible. When we came to check in we asked if it was possible to have an early check in. We knew we might have to wait until 4pm. She put her elbow down and threw her head on her hand and asked why everyone wants an early check in. She complained to us, and while seeing another family walk in she said they better not ask to check in or she will kill them. I understand being frustrated, but there is no reason to make comments like that to any guest coming to stay at your hotel.

I only come to this hotel one weekend a month for an event that a group that I come to hosts. They hotel staff is very friendly and accommodating towards us. I’m happy to say that I will attend the event as long as it’s here.

The place is falsely advertised. I would not place rate this as a 3 star hotel but rather a 2 star motel. You pull up using your car to your motel room, you walk up your own steps.
Pros: Sleep number bed, adequate pool area, quiet, very close to clearwater mall.
Cons: smells funny, I think they use some type of freshener to mask the smell of cigarette smoke (when the entire facility is supposed to be smoke free) I saw a redneck hanging outside with his door propped open in cut off jeans, shirt off. I thought to myself, «did I just rent from a cheap extended stay motel?»
This place is cheap and does not meet my standards, should have paid a little more to stay at the holiday inn across the way.

We found this place online by accident. For the ratings it was receiving and the price they were charging it seems to good to be true.
The room was ok, your basic hotel room. At first I didn’t like the sleep number bed (they have them in all rooms), but after sleeping on it, it actually was quite nice.
Added bonus was they have a free breakfast for the $$ charged.
And, a restuarant and bar on-​site. Very rare to find in a hotel that charges a rate like this. Hotel was very clean, quiet and comfortable.

After being denied our confirmed hotel reservation at another hotel, Expedia booked us this hotel. We could not have been happier. The front desk was extremely helpful and pleasant. I can’t speak to their prices as we were booked at the same rate we booked our original hotel.
I guess due to the mix up, Expedia bumped us up to a suite on the third floor. The hotel was clean and very comfy. They have sleep number beds and a mini kitchen in the suites. We overlooked the pool and jacuzzi area and had a little balcony that you could access from both rooms. This was nice as we propped the door open and let the March breezes cool the room.
Every morn, there is a decent continental breakfast. Not bad for free. The hotel was quiet and most of the people there were in the 40 and over crowd, which meant no late night partiers. Lots of parking spots near your room.
The only downfalls were that the tv in our bedroom didn’t work (but why should you watch tv when you are visiting Florida) and the sleep number bed didn’t work either… which was a disappointment since I always wanted to give them a try. Not the biggest deal since we still slept soundly.
The location of this hotel is key. So close to Lenny’s and Phillies Spring Training. I will surely stay here again if we go to Clearwater next year.

The name of this place is misleading — the front building qualifies as a hotel — the suites are all accessed from the same entry as the lobby. As for the rest of the rooms… drive-​up access = motel, baby. So I was a little surprised (and confused) when I drove up, having been under the impression that I’d be staying at a hotel, but then pulling up at a motel right off a major road. It took me a few to decide I wasn’t in the wrong place.
But enough about that… the staff was courteous, and check-​in was quick. Our room was painfully cold when we got to it, made worse by the fact that we got caught in a deluge as we were checking in. Pretty standard room, although the sheets and towels had some random (and rather off-​putting) visible stains. Big chunky TV that for some reason couldn’t be turned off with the remote. The shower controls were bizarre (turn the knob one way, it’s normal; turn the knob the other way, it’s all hot water, hot enough to scald you). The walls were *thin* — we could understand the dialogue on the TV in the next room. The mattress was rock hard. Breakfast was pretty lame — cold scrambled eggs and pancakes, everything else cost extra. We ended up going out for donuts.
It’s cheap, so if you’re more concerned with cost than amenities this place isn’t bad. But next time I’ll definitely shell out the extra $ 20 or so to upgrade to someplace nicer.
One more thing… I’m not entirely sure what Jacqueline T. meant about the decent view from the high floor — this mo/​hotel only has two (or maybe three) floors, and the only view I could see was of a pseudo-​highway. Is it possible she submitted a review for the wrong Best Western?

I stayed here during thanksgiving 2007 because my house was flooded with relatives and there was no where to sleep. So for peace and quiet I decided to book a room. I arrived pretty late at night. There was ample parking and I felt safe walking around at night.
The lobby is very nice, I might even mistake it for a full service hotel.
I booked on
, so I got a pretty decent rate. The gentleman at check in was great. I told him I just started to work at a nearby hotel. Hearing this he offered me an application, turns out he was the GM! I thought it was great that the GM was working the desk on a late night, really shows his dedication.
My room was located on a high floor I don’t remember the number but it had a pretty decent view. The room was spacious, one king bed, flat screen TV, very very clean and comfortable. Before you enter the room there are french doors that lead you to your room. I thought this was great if ever there was a noisy night the doors totally decreased the noise level.
The wireless Internet was free and fast. My room was serviced perfectly and timely.
I didn’t try the restaurant, however it did look very nice. The room service menu was pricey and limited.
If I ever travel back to this area to visit I would stay here again!
