Sheraton Sand Key Resort

Great conference location. Not a great location to stay. The view from the room was great, but that’s it. First, I have to hear every time my neighbor showers, sounds like it is coming through the wall. My room is covered with what the locals call ‘sugar ants’, the front desk made them sound normal & to be expected; maintenance came to spray & echoed the same; I was offered breakfast buffet tickets when I am here for a conference & don’t have time to visit the buffet. I don’t know if it is the water, detergent they launder the towels with or bed linen, but I’ve developed a skin irritation that I can’t wait to return home to my provider to assess & treat. I had asked the concierge of activities to do & he couldn’t think of any… he said «we are just a small island», just to happen to go to the ATM, & see tons of brochures of local activities & tours at the end of my trip, so I’d missed out. I had ordered desserts for room service and 30 minutes later I receive a call that one of them is only made for dinner and the 2^nd would be delivered right away; 20 minutes later, still no dessert… I had to call and cancel the order cause I’d grown tired of waiting. What led to this post on my last night… in my room, out of boredom, turned the sheets further down to prop myself in bed, & discovered & old laundered blood stain on the comforter. Now I have to lie my clothes on top of the bed for my last night of rest to serve as a barrier between me & the sheets on the bed. This is not a resort, it’s a motel labeled a resort.

Our stay couldn’t have gone any better! Before we even left for the airport in Cleveland we received a text message from someone from the Sheraton confirming that we would have a ride to the hotel when we landed in Tampa. We texted him when we were at baggage, and then before we k new it we were on our way.
Our first room was on the first floor adjacent to the pool area. This provided easy access to the pool area, hot tub, beach and ocean whenever we wanted, and a little patio to sit on. After our first few night we checked out and made the trip south to Siesta Key for a couple days, only to decide we’d prefer to finish out our trip at the Sheraton. When we returned we were welcomed warmly and given passes for a free breakfast buffet as well as access to the VIP area with free food and drinks on the top floor.
This is the only hotel we found with pristine beach access on the key. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else!

Unacceptable. Virtually every experience at this hotel was unpleasant. I was here for a conference and there were constant construction sounds to the point that the conference had to hold a few times. Construction continued preventing sleep, relaxation, and any sense of reasonability. Upon checkout, the front desk attendant asked how everything was and I said unpleasant. There was no further inquiry. He never even bothered to ask what was wrong. I talked to someone at corporate and was refunded maybe around 10% of my final bill? All in all of frustrating unpleasant an unsatisfactory experience. I will go out of my way to avoid this franchise in the future, but especially this location. Oh yeah. And the pool was closed.

We stayed here from the 5^th-​7^th in December booked a deluxe room with ocean view (538), this room overlooked the pool and the beach. The room itself was nice and clean but the bathroom is very small and remember it’s a hotel on the beach which are usually dated, but overall great room.
Keep in mind this hotel is on the beach and one of the only ones in Clearwater but the beach is a good 5 minute walk from the hotel.
Cabanas and chairs are 25 $ a day on the beach and that is normal for the area.
Bobbie at the pool bar was awesome and drinks were relatively cheap considering this is a Sheraton on the beach.
Monique the night manager was awesome, she managed to organize the rooms so I would have what I desired and was very flexible, a staple to customer service and an asset to that hotel.
I would have given this place 4 stars because the rooms are a little dated but overall still good in comparison to other places, but the location and service by all staff is unbeatable and the location is one of the best if not the best !

The room was a bit smaller than I had hoped but it was big enough for my 3 bridesmaids, my mom, my older sister, and myself to get ready for my wedding. That’s including a makeup and hair stylist as well as our professional photographer. I really wish I could have had a room on the side of the hotel overlooking the beach, but they said it could not be accommodated :(
One of our relatives even paid for our room both nights and they sent us up a note from the relative (I still have no clue who the anonymous relative was!) and a bottle of champagne (not on the right night, but oh well).
Honestly, what would have made this a 5-​star review is if they had free wifi. I lived for 2 nights off of the tethering on my phone because I am not going to pay $$$ for freaking wifi. I think I remember that they may have had a «guest» network but if they did it did not work.

Best beach by far! We stay here anytime we come to Clearwater because the beach is private, not crowded, hotel is clean and comfortable, the staff is awesome! They go out of their way to provide excellent service.
It’s an older hotel, nothing fancy or over the top. The pool area is very nice, clean, has lounge chairs, tables and chairs, a nice bar, a restaurant, jacuzzi, and lawn area. We, however, spend most of our time on the beach, not only because the beach there is so beautiful but the pool is usually very crowded.
The hotel has two restaurants-​one casual and one a bit more upscale. Both are good. However, there are tons of great restaurants in the area if you want to venture out a bit.
Overall, this is a great family hotel!

I liked this hotel. One reason: The beach is right in its backyard. So if you’re a beach person, you can walk out to the back and go to the beach. You don’t have to cross any roads or anything.
Sure, the walk to the beach is kinda far. But it is still on the hotel’s property. If you’re too lazy to walk all the way to the beach, just ask for a transport at the towel station. They’ll gladly give you a ride to the beach.
They have cabanas you can rent at the beach. They’re $ 25/​day. When you get your cabana, you can come and go as you please. Just leave your towel there so the people know you’re coming back.
They have a pool too. I never got into the pool because there were a ton of bratty kids there. The beach was more peaceful.
The rooms are standard hotel rooms. I do have some complaints about their bathrooms though. The hotel seat does not stay up. So if you wanna pee standing up, you have to hold the seat up. Or you have to aim carefully.
Also, the shower head is too low. I’m 6′ tall. The shower is made for people who are 5’5″ or something. I had to sit in the shower like a gargoyle to take a shower.
Also the water is soft. If you’re not used to that, your skin feels slippery and slimy when you wash yourself. It’s just not something I’m used to.
Other hotel accommodations are basic. You get Showtime on TV. I guess that’s a plus. You don’t get free internet unless you’re a SPG member. Luckily I am a SPG member. Although the free internet is slow. You can get a faster connection if you pay.
They have a small clubhouse at the 9^th floor. If you pay $ 40/​day/​room, you can access it. All they have is breakfast and a place to lounge around. I think they have drinks too. I don’t know if it’s worth it though. The clubhouse doesn’t look all that cool.
The 9^th floor also has the gym. The gym is small and has your basic gym machines. You know, treadmills, various weight machines, and so on. They don’t have many free weights except dumbbells and two benches. The dumbbells only go up to 50lbs.
They have Rusty’s Bistro, which will have a separate review, other restaurants, and a small shop with various travel goodies. It’s pretty convenient.
I thought the staff was very courteous. They seem helpful and nice. Overall, I liked this hotel. I would probably come back if I’m in the Clearwater area.

Spending the day at this beautiful beach and decided to spend $ 25 for 2 beach lounge chairs and umbrella. For an extra $ 8, we needed a third chair. Total charged was $ 35. Took me time in the sun to realize 25+8=$ 33. Too lazy to inquire about the $ 2. Assume he took advantage of our good nature and added his own gratuity into our cost. May the next person question his math.
4stars for beach

The view from our room of the pool and ocean were beautiful. The hotel rooms were definitely dated. The ceilings were low, the bathroom was clean but needed some grout work. For a family of four it was ok. There was a small fridge in our room and an icemaker machine not too far down the hall. This was helpful because we brought a lot of our own drinks and snacks for the kids.
There is one pool, not very big and one hot tub. The pool area fills up quickly so you need to get down to that area early to claim your spot. There is plenty of lounge chairs all around the back of the resort, so there was never a time where we didn’t have a place to sit. There is an outdoor bar, and also a separate snack bar. The snack bar served typical pizza, nachos etc, great for when you don’t feel like heading into one of the restaurants. They do serve no alcoholic smoothies for the kids at the pool bar.
There are several tennis courts if that’s what you are into. They also have multiple volleyball net on the beach area. It’s a long walk down to the water so you’re never in anyone’s way playing volleyball. We met some fantastic people at the volleyball courts, played many games.
The walk down to the beach from the hotel is almost a mile, the sand can get hot so wear something on your feet. The beach itself is beautiful, I love Clearwater beach area for the white sand and calm waters. The kids had a blast search for shells in all shapes and sizes. There are more seashells here than anywhere, so if you are a crafty person, its a great place to pick some up for your next lamp or picture frame.
Would I recommend this resort, yes, just don’t have high expectations of the place.

Excellent service, great food, very nice beach! With a hotel of this caliber we were surprised to find two extra 6 legged guests staying with us (who are no longer breathing thanks to a swift flip flop WHACK!)

All depends on what your stay is meant for… yes I found the hotel dated with its décor and low ceilings and layout. However, if you can walk a ½ mi or less your set it is powder white sand on the beach, has a pool but this resort is designed to be «beachfront». And that’s what your getting. It’s more of a local friendly personalized service here. Not the commercialized large hotel chains with Lagoon swimming pools. The pool is smaller but it’s an 8ft deep pool, so unless your little kids can swim really well you’re not gonna find that many here let alone without supervision. All the staff members were amazing and friendly and helpful. Our room was CLEAN and comfy and we had a Harbour view w/​some rooftop in it due to conference building addition. The bathroom shower had a retractable clothesline in it like many beachfront hotels do to hang your bathing suits after you swim that way you don’t get the trashy bathing suit over the balconies look of some other places. Will say shower could use a vent fan otherwise keep door open when not using it. Cool thing you get a mini loofah to use for you shower (totally loved this touch!)
We had some hallway noise but on the 7^th floor we would still say it was pretty quiet in the sleeping areas. As a SPG member you have 2/​day complimentary water bottles in your room. On the Harbour view we did have a beautiful sunrise/​sunset there and it gorgeous on the horizon. We enjoyed our room service immensely the food was fantastic!!! Again service was impeccable very friendly on spot! Loved the cute boutiques and sundries shops downstairs and the poolside bar drinks YUMMY! Have to say when I first arrived being spoiled with some of the larger chains I wasn’t sure what to expect but after spending a few nights I realize the ambience isn’t the Decour or the style which it was decorated but the comfort and friendliness and access to the Gorgeous Sandkey! Our beds were so comfortable with down pillows and topper. We had a TV and never even used it.
Another awesome thing I realized I opted not to pay for the Internet in my room and decided to use the free Wi-​Fi in the common areas and turned out to be a very fun and socializing experience. Met some fun friends and hung out more at the poolside bar & café and we played volleyball with our new friends ! Overall it was a great experience I truly enjoyed the gym, the food, the beach, service, and our comfy beds. Would stay again! I didn’t pay for décor I paid for comfort and location and to be attended too ! We also found cute personalized note cards in our room from staff! ;).

Really nice Hotel, directly located at the beach (ok, you have to walk 5min but only on sand which is fine for me). We liked it here so we would come again.

Great location, nice property, beautiful beach and pool. Offers a nice seafood buffet on weekends too.
Unfortunately I only spent one night here but I will be back.

I feel it’s my job to tell you that the pictures of the pool are not accurate AT ALL! I was shocked to see how small it was and it was packed with so many young children that I would question the cleanliness. Also, the pics where you see blue chairs on the beach, close to the pool were never set up. And it looks like the ocean is just a few steps away but in reality, it is a half mile. No joke. We stayed on the beach the entire time.
The room was so outdated and small but the beds felt clean and comfortable. The bathroom is so tiny but it was clean.
Silver lining… the service was excellent!
Unless you have a very small child and don’t mind cramming in a over crowed pool, I would suggest another hotel to enjoy beautiful Florida.

Pros: Beautiful location, lobby, pool & private beach.
Cons: Everything else. Dated rooms, no free wifi, expensive sub-​average food.
Stayed here May 2015. By the outside, lobby & pool you would think this is an awesome pick. But then we got to our room… «Um… did we just step into Motel 6,» was the first words out of my mouth.
I paid for an ocean view but we got a view of the roof and parking lot. I would have changed rooms but it was already 1:30am by the time we got in so it wasn’t worth the trouble.
The bathroom was teeny tiny and didn’t have an exhaust fan. The faucets worked backwards. There was no free wifi available in the room. The breakfast buffet was expensive and gross. The tavern looks like it was decorated by a grandmother in the 1950’s. It is not a place that makes you want to relax and have a drink there; it looks more like La Quina’s continental breakfast nook.
In the shower, my girlfriend pointed to a metal box. «What’s that?» she asked.
I pulled out the clothesline from the box.
«This,» I replied as I wrapped it around my neck, «is for when you realize how much you paid for this room.»

Occasionally you experience welcome and relaxation in expected places and usually when you pay a lot for it. Luckily you can also experience that when not paying a lot. The Sheraton Sand Key Resort, in Clearwater FL is a medium priced, high customer service experience.
The hotel itself is unique for the style in the Clearwater area, very fitting look and amenities, and much nicer than most hotels in this area. The pool area, while a little compact, is laid out nicely, but the beach areas is fantastic. Volleyball, corn hole, beach tennis and beach chairs are great for this spot. While it’s a long sandy walk to the Bay, the sand is clean and packed down so walking is easy. The chair and umbrella rental on the beach is a little pricey but the foods and drink cart are nice additions.
The real gem in this are the people. From Janet, when we checked in, to all the staff we encountered, even the window washer we rode the elevator with, were all happy and very engaging. We had some strange snafu with our reservation, the staff went out of their way to accommodate us and make sure we were happy and comfortable. I would rate this a 5+ because of the staff, but I rated a 4 due only to the room bathroom size and style, a little old and very small. Is also love to see them arrange their restaurants so there is nicer outdoor eating. We would have stayed on premise for lunches had there been a nicer outdoor restaurant.
We will certainly come back and stay here again if ever the chance arise.

The people are very sweet and accommodating. The location is very scenic. The rooms are clean and nicely appointed, it’s not the Ritz but it’s aesthetically pleasing. We dined at the Mainstay Tavern which has excellent fish and chips with just the right amount of batter. My husband had the nachos with pulled pork and could not eat them because they were too sweet.
We also ate at Rusty’s Bistro. Nice atmosphere with live music, great wines and service. I enjoyed the rusty salad and stuffed salmon both very tasty. However, my husband ordered the double cut pork chop that made him sing! «LITERALLY». Well we all know I had to taste it, and the apples accompanying the chop and in the sauce made it addictive. Not to mention it was perfectly prepared. We had the chef come out so we could clap for him. Great place, I would definitely return.

Worst Conference Center resort and stuck in 70’s facilities. If you need quiet conference rooms the thin room dividers just don’t hack it and you will hear the silly motivational groups screaming and cranking cheap music next door. Totally unacceptable. And the best restaurant was closed two days to cater to one if those sad groups. Seriously! The rooms are pretty shabby with tiny bath, old plastic tubs, 5 ft high cruddy shower heads and thin walls as well as hearing people outside through old sliding doors.
At $ 120 this might be worth it. The large wide beach is a plus and walk to water not a minus but the extra charge for chairs lame. The nice staff was friendly and helpful giving it the two stars.
