food, amazing. staff, super friendly and quick to help you with anything you might need. the experience was great if you want to go a little off the beaten path for a great meal… but (and i hate having something negative to say when the staff clearly does try to meet all of your requests during the stay)…but if you are planning on staying at the tavern for a couple of nights, you should know, the pictures online don’t exactly match what you get. my husband and myself went here for a little time to ourselves and other than the pool, hot tub, and a few stains on the sheets it was great. we came there for uninterrupted time together and that is exactly what we got. however for the price i think they would be better off surviving solely on the restaurant and catering service. save up some money to revamp the «tavern» portion in a few years or something. i can imagine many people have complaints, especially because with high end food, and high end prices, you usually attract high end people with high end attitudes. we didn’t complain, we are not picky and we enjoyed it the most because of how genuinely sweet and totally laid back the staff were and how amazing the food was.

My husband and I spent the night of our ten-​year anniversary here because we had been favorably impressed on our previous visits. The room was very romantic and super-​comfortable. Sleeping on that bed was like sleeping on a marshmallow. My husband appreciated the complimentary decanter of port on the landing outside the room! We celebrated Mother’s Day in the garden with an excellent crab quiche (the best ever). For supper the previous night, we had the «pork porterhouse»; very good! Nichol is a fabulous innkeeper and hostess. We loved our stay and plan to be back soon, either overnight or at least for a meal.

It’s easy to really praise this very attractive restaurant in the heart of Clarksville. The garden setting is beautiful. The menu is ambitious. The dishes are presented well and the food is tasty. But -.
First, it’s overpriced and pretentious. Second, the service was just adequate. Third, they had the nerve to charge $ 5 per person cover charge for a group that began playing just before we asked for the check.
But the real problem — my $ 25 steak had five big chunks of gristle that I left on the plate, amounting to at least 15% of the steak. When the waiter asked how everything was I pointed out the the flawed steak. His response — «I’ll tell the chef». That’s the last I heard. I wasn’t looking for a refund but not even an apology or an expression of regret!

We cannot say enough great things about the food, the service, the atmosphere and of course, we love the live music on Friday nights during the late Spring through early Fall. Tonight, we are listening to Jeff and Brian of the group JB and the Get Down Browns. They are simply the best. Combine that with our delicious meal and outstanding service equals a spectacular evening. Love Coopers!!!

So I would have given this place four or five stars if I had just ate here. The food was really good. The service was timely, friendly and professional. The dining areas were very cute and the pool area and surrounding greenery were very nice. My issue was when I stayed the night. Our room was atrocious. I can’t really speak for the other rooms but we stayed in the Midsummers Night room. First up, our door to the room would latch but it had a two inch gap along the top and bottom of the door. It was completely open to the hallway. If you stood up a little you could see into our room from the hallway. Not only did the door not provide sufficient visual coverage, you could hear everything. The door to the bathroom wouldn’t latch at all so that was really romantic and to top it off the bathroom was max four by four feet. When I sat on the toilet my knees hit the shower door and my arm touched the sink. I have been to third world countries where the bathrooms were bigger. The furniture was kind of antique in the room but a lot of it was not very solid and it was covered with fragile junk (it was junk you’d get a garage sale with no reason, no theme) over every surface, making it unusable to put any of my stuff down. One thing that really made me mad though was the comforter on the bed and the 20 useless pillows were covered in stains, one of which was a large whitish stain that could very well have been bodily fluid. We took it off immediately and used the spare blanket which seemed cleaner but had a lot of holes. The room was a huge disappointment and I would probably never go back despite the good food and good service because it was such a terrible, gross room.

I have to say this is a beautiful place! Gorgeous bed & breakfast! Lovely little town. Kind staff here at cooper’s landing BUT the food is not satisfying. I was here for brunch. I ordered the clam cowered which was extremely sour! I had to send it back. Also, I got the crab omelette & it came out smothered in cheddar cheese! So much I had to scrap it all off. I only ate a few bites… it was hot but def. Not tasty. I do not think I’ll return to eat at this establishment.

My friend and I stopped around noontime on our way to the Blue Ridge Mountains. We saw they were open for Sunday brunch so we decided to stop in. Already having had eaten a big breakfast before starting our drive, eggs weren’t what we wanted. We instead, selected several main appetizers — a trio of pulled pork sliders, mushroom paremsan dip, and wild boar sausage in a puff pasty. Oh. My. Atlanta. It was all amazing. The silders were varied but all equally delicious served on a wood platter with a side of purple slaw. The mushroom dip is served with sliced bread and was like a rich, decadent mushroom soup — I am guilty of finishing it off with a spoon! The wild boar came with a jam and mustard, both delicious. We were stuffed. And agreed it was one of the best meals we had both had.
I loved the charm and character that the house had. I envied the group sitting in the sun room! We looked through a brochure while awaiting the meal and the rooms above seemed cozy, if more modernized. The fall décor was lovely, and library was inviting. I wished we could have booked a room for the night!

My girlfriend and I stayed at Cooper’s Landing for a weekend getaway. The breakfasts were included with the package, but we only got two choices each day, and none of the choices appealed to us. I tried the Eggs Benedict and was not a fan. We had dinner once. We both tried the New York strip steak and thought it was tough and grizzly. Sides were ok.
We had dessert and coffee both nights and we loved the desserts! It was Fall, so everything had pumpkin in it and was so good.
Besides food, the bed wasn’t comfortable at all. We couldn’t sleep well. Also the noise downstairs didn’t stop until midnight.

I have been here once where the food was alright. The pricing is unbelievably expensive. Staff is okay. Just not my cup of tea.

Great local flavor. We also have the crab dip when we visit… it is a must! My wife always gets the filet when we eat here. She has never had a bad steak!!! This place has awesome live entertainment during the summer. It is very cozy sitting outside listening to some great music! Highly recommend.

The food is amazing. You have to have the honey nutmeg butter! It would make cardboard be to die for. Loved the lobster, crab and corn chowder. The service is one that makes you want to never leave.

Had dinner at this great restaurant this past weekend. We had a nice quiet dinner; however, judging from the sheer amount of tables this can be quite a busy place (probably in summer). Food was wonderful, and although the first impression we got from the waiter was mixed, he turned out to be great, knowledgeable and just all around a fine gentleman. This place had everything a good restaurant should have, including a great wine list, which was somewhat surprising in a small rural town as Clarksville. We had a wonderful bottle of Virginia Pinot Noire and as a meal we had the chef’s seafood special and the stuffed quail. We will definitively return when back in the area!

What an unbelievable place, time and time again. This review is long over due as we have been to Coopers Landing Inn many times and will continue to treasure this precious gem. My wife and I celebrated our 4 year anniversary with a wonderful two night stay in our favorite room, the rustic Vineyard Suite. When we arrived, we were graciously greeted at the entrance by the Innskeeper and given a key for the room. After «unpacking» we requested and attentively received delicious chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. Our itinerary for the rest of our stay was happily set up by the staff. We enjoyed horseback riding, hiking and a picnic (delicious chicken salad croissants, cheese, grapes and wine — picnic basket provided by the Inn for a reasonable charge), and our last venture was going to nearby wineries/​vineyards. Cooper’s Landing Inn has an amazing fine casual dining menu selection and all of which is reasonably priced. We really enjoy that the chef is always changing dinner specials based on the season.
Breakfast every morning is such a treat. You are given a card in your room the night before, to make your breakfast selections. Don’t shy away from making little notes to custom order certain options… The staff and chef are always so accommodating and willing to do their best to customize my wife’s order (she is extremely selective). We have been coming to Cooper’s Landing Inn for over four years and every time we are treated with fairness and sweet southern hospitality. We always end our stay with a delicious breakfast in the bright, beautiful sun room and a walk around town. We both highly recommend staying at Cooper’s Landing Inn and at the very least, stumble in for a great meal!

Nice and clean with good food. A bit on the expensive side for those folks on a fixed income. However, I would recommend Cooper’s, especially for special occasions.

Outstanding meal and service. We will go out if our way to dine here again. They took care of our party of 10 and no one was disappointed. Even the butter earned rave reviews from my family. Good wine list with some hard to find wines. A big hit was the Chefs Choice, a luscious seafood medley in phyllo and a cheese sauce.

Nichol and Les Cooper were so attentive to our needs and made our wedding their top priority. We appreciated their last minute planning to get tents and shuttle drivers when the weather was not so spectacular. They were able to accommodate both of our families at the Inn for the weekend, and all were able to enjoy the venue and beautiful setting for a truly memorable event. We highly recommend this B&B if you are looking to get the package deal with a unique flavor all your own.
The food is amazing!

We were in Clarksville, VA because of the 2013 Lakefest Festival and were recommended to have dinner at Cooper’s Landing. I think it was not a good idea to stop by, on this day, since it was crowded and we had to wait 1 hour and 30 minutes for our food to arrive. The place is a nice old house built in 1830 and it is very casual. The Crabcakes and the Michelina’s salad were delicious but the Scallop’s and the Kids Bowtie Pasta were just OK. Is most probably on the overpriced end, for example, we had to pay $ 7 dls extra for adding strips of chicken to my son kid’s pasta (which was $ 5.95). Overall, we have experienced better food and service for the price that is shown in the bill.

If your looking for an outstanding meal, look no further than Cooper’s Landing. I live in Richmond and travel often for work, so I’ve eaten at many nice places, but I would choose to eat at Coopers everytime if I could. If you are looking to splurge I would have a filet. The crab dip and Brie are a must. Some people think they can’t afford Coopers but there prices for a good steak compare to other local restaurants, but these steaks are far superior. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, I suggest one of their salads and add chicken. It’s the perfect meal. Basically, you get what you pay for and at Coopers you are paying for fresh high quality food.

My husband and I, along with our 1-​year-​old son, stayed at Cooper’s Landing Inn for two nights in June. Because it was a busy weekend at the Inn, we were told that we could stay in the Sunshine Cottage. As described over the phone, this was supposed to be a quiet cottage behind the Inn, which we found appealing because of our son’s early bedtime. The space was supposed to include a loft and a Jacuzzi tub, which we thought would be nice and relaxing for our young family. According to their website, the amenities were supposed to include 24-​hour access to «coffee, dessert wines or sherry, herbal tea, soda, bottled water, granola, biscotti, fresh fruit, and seasonal delicacies,» as well as «an afternoon cocktail upon arrival», which all sounded perfect and lovely to us.
This was NOT our experience.
For starters, the cottage is not a cottage. It is an addition to the innkeeper’s home. The only division between the «cottage» and the house is a locked door in the bathroom. The yard space in front of the «cottage» entrance is the backyard to the innkeeper. One should be prepared to like dogs — which, fortunately, we do — because the dogs will be in the space surrounding your cottage.
A few «minor» things of note about the place that charged us $ 175/​night ($ 192.50, with tax!): 1) the plants all around the cottage were dead and the outdoor furniture had not been cleaned; 2) there was no bathroom door (only a sheer white curtain); 3) the linens were stained and disgusting; 4) there were no lamps in the space, so there is no possible way to read while in bed, and the only lights in the room are attached to the ceiling fan, which are operated by a remote control unit (something that was not explained to us upon arrival); 5) the smoke detector was pulled from the wall; 6) there was no phone in the room; the innkeeper actually expects you to use your personal cell phone and minutes in order to communicate with her staff; 7) the «loft» is not accessible, unless you’re a Smurf, or one of the Seven Dwarfs; 8) the mirrors are hung at a level for people under 5 feet tall to use; 9) our room was never cleaned during our entire stay; 10) the television was broken; we had to actually unplug it in order to turn it off because the power button no longer works; and 11) there is no separate shower; one must stand in the Jacuzzi tub to access the shower head sticking out of the wall.
Although this laundry list of issues was enough to ensure that we would never return to this Inn, the true «lowlights» of this stay include: 1) there was a wedding and reception held at the Inn that we were never told about when we made our reservation; the DJ did not stop playing until 11:15pm; 2) we were not able to enjoy the breakfast and supposed «24-​hour access» that was supposed to be included with our stay because we were locked out of the main house, and we were never given cocktails upon arrival; 3) we never met the innkeeper; and 4) there was no clear checkout procedure… we were never even given a receipt!
I have never written a bad review of a lodging experience in my life, so it goes without saying that this place was horrible. If you’re in need of a place to stay in Clarksville, VA, I would recommend saving yourself some money and a headache by renting a cabin at Occoneechee State Park or getting a room at the Best Western. Do not stay at Cooper’s Landing Inn; it’s a complete rip off.

I inked a contract with Cooper’s to host my rehearsal dinner before I’d even set foot in the place, so great was the communication with the owner Nichol (yeah, and the fact that I didn’t really have many options in teeny-​tiny South Boston!). I paid a visit to them while out that way to work out some things with my wedding venue. We grabbed brunch and sat on the patio. The food was phenomenal! I had the crab dip and eggs benedict and was that much more excited we’d picked out an extensive menu for our heavy hors d’œuvre rehearsal.
On our big day (or rather, the day before our big day!), I was disappointed that Nichol was not present. I think she was ill. In any case, there was still plenty of staff in place to serve drinks and keep the tables clear. But I was told the outdoor patio had heaters (important to me, since it was after dark in November and because we knew ahead of time all my guests would barely fit indoors and I wanted to have a nice outdoor space for the speeches and toasts we had planned. Turns out the heaters were broken; it was way too chilly to stay outside so we found ourselves crammed indoors and segregated into multiple rooms — which worked out just fine for eating and visiting, but was a real bummer when Phil and I were trying to say our thank yous and give out gifts to the wedding VIPs.
On to the food. Which was, as I’d anticipated, AMAZING. I only wish I’d spent less time gabbing and more time grubbing! We got numerous compliments on everything that was there. I remember the bruschetta, brie, and stuffed mushrooms being particularly yum. And of course, the dessert fondue was stellar!
Nichol and I had a little miscommunication about what time my event was supposed to end, so that the restaurant could open to the public. I felt bad that I didn’t make sure to get the time span in writing in our contract as I could have prevented the rush to get everyone out and all our leftover food packed up that incurred as a result. But it was a small snag in an otherwise perfect wedding weekend. Moreover, Nichol was so courteous and professional when I reached out to her about the confusion. Such excellent customer service, especially: after: the fact definitely warrants recommendation.
I hope we’ll be able to pay another visit one day and stay with them in one of their cute B&B rooms. And sign me up for another of those patio brunches: perfection!
