Matthew Moving Co

My issues are similar to the ones mentioned in previous reviews. I had all of my belongings packed and moved from my 1 bedroom apartment to another 1 bedroom apartment that was about 1.5−2 hours away. They sent out someone to do a survey before the move and said that everything could be done in one day. (And I did a similar move a few years ago, with roughly the same amount of stuff, and it was done in one day with no problem.) I reserved the elevator in the current building from 1 – 4 and they said that would be fine. Now the issues: They came late which put them behind so my Mom and I had to help them pack which was frustrating because I was having them pack because I HATE packing. Even with the help, they still weren’t done with the elevator at 4 so they had to share it with another moving company which put them further behind. But we were lucky that the other moving company and tenant were nice about the situation or they would have had to take the stairs. When they finally finished loading the truck, my Mom and I stayed 15 – 20 minutes to finish cleaning. I expected them to be at the new apartment when we arrived but instead we waited for about 30 min because they had gotten lost. They lost a small piece off of my coffee table and said they couldn’t find it because it was too dark in the truck but they would bring it to me the next day. They didn’t unload a large wardrobe from the truck because it was broken. They said that if it couldn’t be fixed, they would reimburse me the replacement cost. They were supposed to unpack and take the empty boxes but since it was so late (around 10 pm) I said that they didn’t have to do it. They told me that they would take the empty boxes the next day when they came back with the piece from my coffee table. I never got the piece for my coffee table and they never came back for the boxes. I don’t consider this a huge deal just really annoying since I don’t believe they ever had any intention of coming back. The really bad part has been trying to get reimbursed for the cost of my wardrobe. I have called numerous times but I haven’t gotten any resolution. Another annoying thing is that no matter what number I call, I get the same guy who says he can’t help me because the paperwork has been sent to the claims department and he can’t give me a phone number for the claims department. He also said he has talked to other people that moved over the summer and are still waiting for their claim to be processed.

Before using this company, I recommend looking them up on the Better Business Bureau website. I would not recommend this company.

I was assigned to this company for relocation. It took me two weeks and 6 phone calls to get more than a five minute conversation with them — they never had time for me. I wasn’t even sure what time the movers were suppose to come until two days before my move. Not only that, but I had originally been scheduled to move on Friday July 11^th. They told me the movers would be there between 9am-​10am. Thursday night I get a call asking if I can reschedule my move due to an issue with a current move (not mine). I say fine, I’ll help you guys out. So then, the movers are suppose to show up 9:00 — 10:00 on Saturday July 12^th. At 10:45 I call them. The operator said oh yes, they should be there any minute, I will try to get a hold of them hold on. after being on hold for 5 minutes they guy says that he can’t get a hold of the crew that is suppose to be moving me. But they left the facility at 9:15 and should be there any minute. He also says he’ll call me back as soon as he hears from them. 1130 rolls around and I call the company back. There is no answer. Finally at 12:30 I hear from someone — «Oh the driver that was suppose to move you found out his mother died this morning and went home. We’ve been trying to reach you all morning. We’re trying to get someone to move you now. We’ll call you back and let you know when someone can move you» I had been by my phone all morning and had called multiple times. This was the first time anyone had called me. Why didn’t the first guy I spoke to tell me this? If this was the case then the guy would have returned the van and the crew and they would just need another driver. But the comapny would have known. They definitely lied to me. I hear back from them at 13:15 and they tell me someone will be there between 14:30 — 15:00 to move me. At 15:30 my movers still aren’t there. I call the company — «Oh they got held up, they’re unloading a truck now and they’ll leave any minute to come move you». They didn’t show up until almost 17:00 on Saturday. And instead of a 3 or 4 man crew it was only 2 guys. After loading the truck, driving to my new place, and unloading my truck it was almost 22:00 — and that was with my fiancée and I helping unload all my stuff. It was absolutely the worst moving experience I have ever had in my entire life. Even though the two guys who actually loaded the truck were very nice and efficient this company is beyond horrible.

I agree with the first reviewer. This is a terrible company – they damaged many of my posessions which I had insured. Then they tried to prevent me from collecting on tthe insurance because it would raise their rates. Senior management refused to be accountable and the staff in incompentent. They did not do anything well from packing to storing. Do not use Matthews Moving under any circumstance.
