K-​9 Academy specializes in teaching dogs and their owners in order to bring out the best in the dogs and strengthen the owner-​dog bond. K-​9 Academy offers basic and advanced obedience training as well as rescue rehabilitation. K-​9 Academy also has an onsite grooming facility and over 15 years experience serving the Abingtons and surrounding areas. Our dog training program begins with small steps to form a solid foundation in the dog’s focus and discipline. Instead of training the dogs to do tricks, we teach them to become smarter, literally boosting their intelligence. Training business hours can vary based on customer’s needs and K-​9 Academy’s availability.

History

Established in 1999.

Tony Mercuri began is canine career as a «decoy» for the local police force and private guard dogs after high school. After hands on training and schooling, he opened his own dog grooming business in Clarks Summit and has been serving the Abingtons and NEPA for nearly fifteen years.

Tony has become known for dealing with behavior problem dogs and getting these dogs over their fears. His years of experience in dog handling have taught him to identify the different personalities of dogs, which is the key to teaching them and bringing out the very best in them.

Business Owner

Originally born in Texas, Tony moved to the Abingtons at a very young age and has lived here ever since. Shortly after graduating high school, he bought his first dog, a Rottweiler named Dallas. This was the start of something very special. He soon realized his love for dogs and his passion for training while working with Dallas. Tony’s love for dogs sparked the opening of Canine Care pet grooming in Clarks Summit. Tony stood out from the other groomers by working with each dog individually and getting them over their fears of the grooming process. Clients soon realized that he was different– he didn’t just get the job done, he got the dog’s groomed beautifully and got them over their fears by working with the dog’s personality. Tony’s abilities at training were very apparent and his love for training even more so. And so, K-​9 Academy was born, a training school for dogs and their owners. Trained dogs are happy dogs.
