Uncommon Good is a charity that offers education, health, and urban farming programs for low income families. It also sells its locally grown produce, that is farmed using organic methods, to the public throughout the greater Los Angeles area. Uncommon Good is located in a first-of-its-kind green building, the Whole Earth Building, that was constructed by hand, using little more than on site earth.
History
Established in 2000.
Uncommon Good’s mission is to develop sustainable communities in which the basic needs of all, particularly the poor, can be met. These needs include food, shelter, quality healthcare, fair wage jobs and a quality education.
Meet the Manager
Nancy M.
Manager
Nancy Mintie is Uncommon Good’s founder and Executive Director. Prior to starting Uncommon Good, she founded and ran the nonprofit Inner City Law Center in Los Angeles’ Skid Row which offers legal and social services to the homeless and low-income families. Mintie has received numerous awards for her work, including being honored on Capitol Hill with former President Jimmy Carter, and being the recipient of the Use Your Life Award from Oprah’s Angel Network.
