History
Established in 1978.
The building Some Crust occupies at 119 Yale Ave. was built in 1888, and after use as a dry goods store, has been in continual use as a bakery since 1916. Some Crust was established in 1978 in the former home of Jensen’s Danish Bakery by owners Dorothy and Fred Demke. Dorothy brought a European sensibility to the new bakery, establishing a tradition of using only real butter, eggs, sugar, and whole creams and milks in most of the recipes. In 1992, the Bakery took over the space next to it, the former Dave’s Shoe Repair, and expanded to include a tea room. The Demkes sold the Bakery in 1997 to the Feemster family, who continue to run the business to this day. In 2002, the Feemsters converted the tea room into a café, and expanded the sandwich and coffee services offered. The Feemster family and «The Crusties» are committed to bringing the community of Claremont quality baked goods in a space that has become a local institution and a favorite meeting place.
