Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft

Customer service is seriously lacking. Shame, because they have a nice selection here. Prices are also a bit pricey compared to Michael’s and such. Today, I went to get some fabric pieces for a bridal shower gift I’m getting for a friend. I finally found what I wanted and went to be rung up. Only one cashier, which is odd for a Sunday or any weekend. Finally, another cashier opened up to speed up the line. When I was finally rung up, I was surprised that the item rung up as $ 3.99 instead of the $ 2.49 advertised. I politely told the cashier and she tersely replied «Well it’s actually $ 3.99». Didn’t even offer to double check or anything. So I begrudgingly paid and went to double check myself. I was surprised to see that not only was it $ 2.49, but there was not one single item there that was $ 3.99. They were all $ 1.49 or $ 2.49. I went back up front to see the other cashier gone, I assume for break or lunch. So I explained this to the other cashier… who said she was «unable to go double check the price» and said she wasn’t sure what to tell me. I found that a bit odd, but she asked me what I thought it was and I said $ 2.49. She begrudgingly gave me a partial refund… but really it should have not been that difficult. I worked in customer service for 6 years myself, so I didn’t want to be rude or visibly irritated, but I was pretty blown away by the lack of service. Especially since there was not one tag that read $ 3.99. Change your pricing tags! Seesh.

Went to Joannes Fabrics today with my 11 yr old daughter and my husband to get fleece material for tie blankets. First thing we went to the restroom and I’m sorry but it’s disgusting! If my phone hadn’t been dead I would have taken pictures to gross you all out. I mean seriously? It was worse than some rest stops I’ve been to. That alone says something about the management.
So we got our material and went to get it cut. Only two cutters for like 15 people in line. We were smart: we got our # before we started shopping. There was a short little young girl who was very sweet and helpful. She helped us save money and talked to my daughter directly giving her tips and tricks. She ran the show! Unfortunately it didn’t end there. We stood in line for 10 minutes only to get up to the registrar to deal with a real bitch. She literally had an attitude for no reason whatsoever and actually looked through our material as if we were going to steal something. If there wasn’t such a shortage on stores that sell material then I would say go somewhere else. But since there are so few, I would say.. use the bathroom before you get there and look out for the snooty, short haired blond bimbo.

The gf loves this place. If you’re into arts San crafts, drawing or sewing you’ll love this place. The employees really know the store as well

If you order something from Joann and think that your purchase is completed just because the item was available online; you received your order confirmation email from Joanns; your credit card was charged for the item; and they were starting the shipping process… THINK AGAIN! That would require GOOD customer service! Joann’s idea of customer service is making you THINK you bought that birthday gift for your friend and that it is in its way but then sending you a crappy email pretty much saying… to bad, we don’t have the item you ordered so go run out now and find another gift and TS on the inconvenience! Also, if you want to send an email to their customer service it will get bounced back! Probably because they sensed it was a complaint! To top it all off, the item still shows available on their website!

What a bunch of unhappy, pathetic ladies working at this location! I would say 3 stars is generous! So I went looking for a pattern for some shorts. The place was fairly busy with lots of people looking for costumes & fabric on 10÷3÷15. There were several seemingly over worked fabric counter ladies who were quick to tell my kids to «Not do that!» When all they were doing were looking at fabric remnants, pattern catalogs, and sewing notions. It made it much more difficult since there were so many ‘policemen’ I had to be sensitive about. My kids are not destructive only curious. It was very frustrating! So I found a couple of patterns, then we needed to use the bathroom. They have wheelchair single bathrooms and we chose the ladies. OMG. There were toilet seat covers and toilet paper thrown all over, with a dirty toilet and a grungy sink. Yucky Yuck! Matches the yucky attitude of the staff! So we started walking out, looking at all the halloween sale items. There were 2 cash registers open and one person ahead of us. We finally got to the register and I had my coupons ready. The unhappy cashier scanned my phone coupons and said «oops, I guess you don’t get any discount on patterns or magazines!» It doesn’t say that on the coupon anywhere. Great! So I got what I wanted but feeling unhappy, frustrated, annoyed, and dirty. Will I go back? Hmm, drive to Arden or Folsom? Probably worth the drive to avoid the unfriendly workers & dirty store! I’d suggest you do the same!

They usually always have what I need. I came in to get some things to wrap a bridal shower gift in. I asked one of the sales associates where I can find burlap ribbon. He said they didn’t have any. I decided to walk around and look myself and I literally found an entire section of burlap ribbon. But I gave him the benefit of the doubt and figured he was new. Then I went to go stand in line for check out. The line was about 15 people deep and they had ONE cashier. Are you kidding me? Hire more staff please!

The staff is helpful and friendly here. Great sales and deals with the coupons. I love it

I would give Joannns 0 stars if I could. I have tried to give them chance after chance but every time I shop this store I am sorely disappointed by their customer service. There are never enough employees to handle the customers. Either it’s at the cut counter or the check out; whichever you are in for a line. Unfortunately they are a necessary evil.

I always enjoy shopping at Joannes craft stores. They have so much to choose from that sometimes it’s hard to choose anything at all this store definitely did not disappoint so much bigger than the Joannes in our area and much better organized I could not believe the selection of fabrics who knows when you go in you may find something you never knew you wanted

I had a pleasant visit yesterday when I had to get supplies for my cosplay.
I’m a frequent shopper to many fabric and craft stores so I always anticipate waiting in long lines at the cutting table and at the registers.
Their selection is decent and prices are fair. Everything is pretty much organized, but I’ve only been here in the early afternoons so I’m not too sure how it is toward the evening.
I give this place 5 stars because of my experience at the cutting table. I usually walk around and listen to how long and fast the cutting table is calling numbers. When it was my time to get my 2 fabrics cut, I was greeted with a friendly smile from Amanda (I hope that’s her name). She asked what project I was doing and I was thrilled to hear that she has friends who cosplays and attends animé conventions as I do. Once I told her how often I come shop for fabric, she informed me about this magazine. It costs $ 3.99, but on the back you have coupons that will help you save a lot of money. My products totaled to be around $ 58, but with the coupons, it went down to $ 37.
I was very thankful that Amanda showed me this booklet, because I was never introduced to this before and I could have saved a lot of money in the past.
Because of this experience, I will continue to shop at this location and hopefully I’ll be able to run into Amanda to tell her in person thank you!

Never come here on your lunch hour. Hugely understaffed and slow. I waited for 45 minutes for the cutting table!

I go here to get Material when I make the no sew blankets, they usually have an okay selection on the fleece prints/​solids. Its clean and easy to find what I need from here.

We had one of our worst customer experiences at the sunrise location. This was our first experience at this specific store and our last. My husband and I were looking to buy about 7 yard of fabric for new curtains. We grabbed some fabric and I went and saw the line and grabbed a number. We looked a little more in the area right next to the cut counter waiting for our number to be called.
I looked and noticed there was no line suddenly the number «serving now» sign was on 67 and we were number 68 and we walked up to the counter and another woman was waking up to the counter as well. The girl who worked at the there sent the other fabric person to go look for something and asked the woman in front if us had a number she replied no. She then asked my husband if we had a number and he replied yes and she said «what number?» He replied «68». She then said «ok I’ll help you next». I was baffled. The other customer was apparently as big of a jerk as the employee and she didn’t ask us to go ahead since we had a number and she didn’t. We waited as she helped these other people eventually she said «how can I help you?». No apology for the wait no «thank you for waiting». Nothing. …
We needed 7 yards… They only had 5. I asked if there was any in back or on the shelf that we had missed, She then said that Elk Grove had some or Folsom. Which is like an hour drive. I asked if they carried it online (something I think she should have suggested as it is easier than driving way out of our way to find the fabric is sold out or there wasn’t enough). She told is they carried it online and I tool a picture of it to look up later. We were both just so annoyed with the whole situation that we left the cart full of yarn at the store and went home. I found what I needed at the Joann’s in Roseville and had 1000 x better customer service. I will not be back to this location.

I called the store to inquire about a home décor fabric I had seen and taken a swatch of a couple of weeks before. I live in a different county and wanted to make sure the fabric was still there before driving all the way back to buy it. The snotty woman on the phone said she would not check to see if it was in stock because they have SO MANY FABRICS. I asked to speak to the manager, who then got on the phone and refused to give me his last name. His first name is Marshall and he obviously doesn’t care that his employees are rude to their customers. Terrible store. I like JoAnn, but I won’t go to that store again.

I just spent an inordinate amount of time waiting for the 2 – 3 fabric cutters to figure out the game plan. People waiting at that counter were over a dozen, some with carts bulging, others with just an item or two. One lady, looking dazed and sleepy had informed her co-​workers she had cleaned up her station and was going home, as her shift was up. They informed her she was an hour early! Duh! It was 3, not 4. So she wearily began the routine of getting back in the game while all these people watched with growing irritation. One of the girls was good, one was almost good, the third needs retirement. But they couldn’t begin to keep up and I walked out after spending at least 10 – 15 minutes and calculating I’d be lucky to get help in another 15.
Management: hire competent cutters, staff the counter appropriately, and get a few people with social skills at the front registers. You would hike your profit margins.

I am giving it 3 stars because …
1.) I had a coupon that I used.
2.) I got more than what I came for because there were awesome sales going on.
3.) It is clean and things are easy to find.
They lost stars because …
1.) the ladies at the front are really rude. I forgot to even notice my cashiers name but she was probably the most rude bitter person I have ever seen. No «hello», nothing … in fact, my Mom and I were chatting about something and she did the rolling of the eyes thing. I wanted to tell her off but Moms was there, plus I am trying to be a better me.
2.) that is the only reason …
Being nice goes a long way. Get your staff together Joann’s.

I live closer to the Arden location but it’s terrible. I’ll gladly make the drive to this Joann (or the one in Elk Grove).
Things I like about this Joann location:
–Big selection of product.
–Employees at the counter who actually know things about fabric. I’m a college student who’s a fashion major and have had chats with some staff members about different fabrics.
–Large store with bright lighting and room to freely navigate. Some Joann stores I’ve been to feel cramped and are horribly lit.
What I DON’T like about this Joann location:
–Rude class instructors. I took a knitting class at this store and the teacher didn’t actually teach anything– she spent her time socializing with other knitters. If someone had a question she gave you a look of disdain. Not fun.
As far as Betty R.‘s review that states that the take-​a-​number system at the counter should be removed goes I completely disagree. That system is highly effective when the counter gets crazy! What the staff DOES need to be better about is updating the «now serving» marquee when the counter is slow (which sounds like the concern Betty R. had).
All in all I recommend this location.

This review has nothing to do with the majority of the store but only the custom framing they offer and promote with coupons.
My advice to you — Be afraid. Be very afraid.
There is an old saying, ‘You get what you pay for.’ … but I didn’t even get that.
Some time ago I had become very ill and wouldn’t have lived any longer had I not gotten into the hospital for treatment. This near death experience made me think there were things I had been putting off and, since one never knows how much time they have left, it would be good to make a point of getting them done.
Most of my life I collected prints as well as had art works given to me by friends, much of which was not framed. I decided it was time to do something about that so that they would be both protected under glass and able to be hung and enjoyed rather than sitting stuffed in a bag in the closet.
A coupon for custom framing enticed me to go to the Jo-​Ann Fabrics & Craft store in Citrus Heights where that service was available.
I was very happy about the prospect of getting my pictures ready to hang and took lots of time and effort in selecting the frames and matting and explaining how I wanted it to be done. Something got lost in translation somewhere; although several things came back looking good, there was problem after problem.
Problems that I had include glass smudged on the inside, pieces of crud under the glass, mat edges that had been ordered colored but weren’t, wrong sizes cut, prints not centered properly, and always delay after delay that had me driving a very long way only to be told my pieces were not ready as promised, or I would find a problem and have to leave without the piece.
The worst things that happened:
One of the frames, mat and fillet I ordered were cut wrong, not once but twice. By the time they finally got around to reordering a third time, the frame was discontinued. I never did get this order completed and am beyond disappointed that what I wanted and considered to be the perfect framing for the piece will never be able to be done.
I was told to leave a frame I simply wanted museum glass cut to fit and when months later it was given back, it had been scratched and gouged and they never gave me any restitution or offered to replace it with something comparable. They even tried to blame me, saying I had given it to them like that.
The frame for an original piece of art was made too small and rather than acknowledging this when it came in and reordering, the edges of the painting were cut off (definitely not according to my instructions) and it was put into this frame, covering up part of the painting. It has been damaged and there is no going back from this.
Two original watercolors had the frames come in so over-​sized that the paper could fall thru the opening. They were remeasured and reorder but the next set of frames came in even larger and more off than the first time. I never did get them framed.
There were other items where the mats were cut too small and not how I had ordered them, and these also were never re-​done and I never was reimbursed for what I paid.
These were just the highlights (or should I say low points) of my long drawn out experience that made bringing my pictures to them something I will forever regret. Neither Jo-​Ann Fabrics or Larson Juhl, the company that manufactures the frames and sends them to the store, ever corrected all the problems or compensated me for them.
At some point one of the managers actually said to me something to the effect that it was my fault there were problems because I had brought so many things in to be done. Wow! How’s that for a business philosophy?
I can’t know where the break down occurred. Was it in the measurements or when they were entered into the computer, or at the frame co. by whomever made the cuts? I’ll never know. I just know the problems were not my fault and I should not have been treated as if they were. I was not the one who made the measurements or sent them in, or cut the pieces, or put the things together.
Having framing done was very important to me and a big investment of money that I couldn’t afford to waste. I am a disabled senior. I have no income and took the money for this from my savings. I expected a professional job. I expected to be able to enjoy my pictures and have them protected so as to be around for others to enjoy long after I was gone. To have my framing order go the way it did was both terribly upsetting and depressing, as well as a waste of my time, energy and money.
If you have anything you want framed and you care about it at all, I would say, avoid Jo-​Ann Fabrics’ framing departments.

I went to Hobby Lobby to find a particular fabric, but they didn’t have it. So I came here in search for it. Chinese silk in red. They had it available AND it was on sale! Perfect. The store’s cut counter is always busy so take a number and wait patiently. I love Jo-​Ann Fabrics so i don’t mind waiting and they had all the items I needed. Don’t treat every Jo-​Ann Fabrics equally, some are definitely not as nice as others.
You can also find other items including ribbon, supplies for sewing, stickers, patterns, and more. I love finding my craft items here as well. Love love love this place!

These past couple of weeks I’ve been to Jo-Ann’s quite a bit. I have always found pretty much everything I’ve been looking for. Ribbon, elastic, tulle, fabric, buttons, needles, thread, crafting stuff, clothes paint, stickers and more. It has a pretty decent selection on almost everything.
Loss of 1 star– That take a number to get your fabric idea needs to GO! It’s ridiculous. There were times when I was the only one standing in front of that counter yet I had a number that was 3 or 4 behind from the one they were on. So say I had 73 and they were up to 70 I had to wait for them to call 70, 71, 72 while standing there and those other people still shopping around then waiting for them to show up to the counter. THIS IS STUPID! If I am there I should be taken care of because obviously… I AM DONE! I shouldn’t have to wait for others that aren’t done, that are as far away from the table as they can be and take their sweet time walking there, then wait for every other number before me to do the same. A few times I walked in grabbed a number and started shopping. Screw that! If when they called the first one I was not done I would tell my daughter to go grab me another. I felt like I was playing a game and had to cheat to get served.
Loss of 2^nd star– Those ladies at the counter are either really nice or really NOT. When you go in there look at their badges. If they have a lot of scissor pins it means they have received lots of compliments up front from customers that fill out cards (I’ve done it). Well I believe that when they are rude there should be a card I can fill out so they can lose a pair of scissors. If they have none then the complaint card would go into an IOU file where they don’t get any scissors until they pay off the loss. Hey, I think they would care about the customers a lot more if it meant losing 1 of something that takes a knowing customer to get.

Just another example of why this place is starting to irritate me, and may possibly lose my business. Again, it has nothing to do with the quality of their merchandise, and I always see clean isles and well stocked shelves, this has to do with their employees. Absolutely great at times, but others, well, other times you have to wonder. I have no idea how they make money off people taking their education classes there. You can almost always find a coupon for half off in the paper or on their app on your smart phone. However, it’s getting the people in that’s the problem.
I signed my sister and myself up for the intermediate quilting class for the grand total of $ 40 after using 2 50% off coupons, (you do the math on the original price), then they give me a small materials list and a 40% off coupon, that’s never good for anything, for me to purchase our class supplies.
All is well until I go in to pick up some stuff for the class, and casually ask the cashier how many people are registered for it next week? She looks, «It says 3, but it says it’s cancelled.» I’m in shock. I’m standing here with a fresh purchase of items I’m using for THIS CLASS, and it’s cancelled? «Can you check for me on that? Cause if it is, there’s no point in my buying this stuff.» She comes back to the register and says it was a mistake and everything is still on for the class. Great, I’m happy… until 4 days later.
Then I get a random call from someone at Joann’s. Telling me that the class instructor quit, (just so happens that this woman teaches all their sewing classes, lets see how that works out), and they’re going to reschedule the class. I’m not big on this and neither is my sister, so I go back to the store with my purchase, return it and get a refund on our class.
I have no idea what’s going on, but i hope they figure it out soon. I’d love to take this class, but only if i have 100% assurance that it’s gonna happen, customers don’t like being jerked around.

I’m not changing my star rating, but I wanted to update because I returned for fabric. They line went pretty fast, and I remembered to take a ticket. I got a solid color jersey knit for 50% off. Love those 50% off sales, but 50% off of $ 12.99/yard for a solid is still pretty high. Whatever, I liked the color, so good enough.
I thought I found something not on sale to use my 40% coupon, but turns out, no. I swear that 40% off coupon they publish every week is a JOKE. Most everything in the store is on sale at like 25% off, and you can’t use the 40% off coupon on sale items. So, so lame. I wish I could forfeit the 25% off sale and use the 40% coupon for one item.
Watch those sales like a hawk though. When they do a 50% sale on something you need, it’s worth swooping into Jo-​Anns.
