My son and I frequented another aquarium place prior to finding this amazing place! The employees have been very attentive and friendly both times we have been in. The first time we just got one fish to see how it did in our saltwater tank that we’ve had for a couple of months. It did fine so we came in again and got a shrimp, crab, coral and fish and food. Their prices are AMAZING because I am sure I would have spent almost twice as much at the other place we used to go to. And the other place the employees always seemed too busy to help us, definitely not the case here. They were knowledgeable and super friendly! They also had a great variety, were very clean, and did I say GREAT prices? We found our new go-​to aquarium store. Thanks guys!

I came here looking for a ghost shrimp and aquatic plants. The staff was very helpful and got me my stuff right away. Unfortunately I do not have a quarantine tank since I just house a betta in a Fluval Spec 5. So I added the plants and shrimp in. Within a few days my betta was covered in ich! Since I’ve had the betta for a while and never had an issue with anything, I know the ich came from here. I did notice employees go from tank to tank with the same cup and their arms/​hands. This spreads ich! If one tanks has it, they now have spread it everywhere! I am still battling the ich; hopefully the betta survives… I will never shop here again…

What an amazing store! Such a great variety of fish and supplies. All the staff was very friendly and helpful! Everyone kept asking what they could help us find. While I don’t like reptiles they also have a huge reptile selection. This place is definitely a must visit place for all your aquarium needs. Amazing staff, great selection, and just some down right awesome fish!!! I will be back!

Kinda peeved. Tried calling several times over a period of five minutes earlier today, a Saturday. No answer. I know that Saturdays are busy days for pet shops, but I’ve never tried reaching one without any answer.
I needed one specific item, a desert themed background for a glass tank. Although they didn’t answer, I rolled the dice and hustled over before they closed since Reptile Depot /​Fish Depot came fully recommended by two people that believed the shop would have what I was looking to buy. I really wanted to resolve the clear glass look for my snake’s new enclosure. Fail. Had to settle for a plain black background. My snake isn’t a sea snake so the eel grass themed backgrounds weren’t going to do the job. Haha
I’m always eager to visit a fish shop and a reptile shop, even better to find two in one. However, I would not have driven 15 miles each way if I would have known they did not have any desert themed backgrounds due to the product being discontinued.
Since I was here, I glanced around the reptile area and priced out things I normally need and looked at the sale animals and their habitats. Good prices on reptile supplies. Their cages holding reptiles for sale were clean, easily viewable and had nice backgrounds, including desert themed ones. *pout*
For my experience today I’m rating the shop 3 stars. If they would have answered the phone and answered my Q, I’d visited another day and likely given them 5 stars. And for a pet shop, five stars is rare as most suffer poor husbandry and/​or stock and supplies not marked with prices due to busy/​unmotivated staff.
The staff was friendly, they approached me, they were informative and helpful while I was here. This applies to all of the staff I encountered. When I brought up the phone issue with a couple of the staff, they handled it nicely and essentially said they help the customers that are there when they get busy and phones get neglected. Again, they handled it gracefully, but I was disappointed.
I would like to look again sometime and enjoy the fish side of the shop and probably purchase reptile supplies. But today I’m let down. I burned a gallon of gas getting here and didn’t leave with what I wanted. I left with something that missed the mark. And I wasn’t looking for a unicorn… Maybe another time will be better.
My suggestion to management would be that they find a way to handle their phones in a way that entails answering them. Most shops I’ve seen have the person at the register answer calls. They could answer quick questions and ask callers to come in or call on weekdays if their question is complex.
Overall, if you’re looking for reptiles, fish or the supplies needed for their care, I would suggest patronizing Reptile Depot /​Fish Depot. Just know for now that they do not have desert themed backgrounds for sale.

This is my go-​to fish store. They have good stuff and their fish are well taken care of. I love coming here and spending a while looking at all the beautiful salt water fish. I’m a betta enthusiast though and the only negative thing I have to say is that the bettas I’ve seen looked a bit unkempt. One of the females even had ich, and some of the water in those tiny cups was pretty dirty. Maybe I just saw the bettas on bad days and they needed to still do water changes. Other than that, this place is wonderful and the staff is very knowledgeable. *So I brought my review down to a three. Reason being is a fish I bought for my dads 50 gallon had some sort of fungus along with fin rot within a day of bringing him home. We are now treating him and hoping our Koi and algae eater don’t catch it! It’s such a shame to be sold sick fish because we as customers spend our hard earned money on purchasing and caring for these animals. Their no refund/​return policy is ridiculous as well. The only reason why my rating remains 3 stars is because of the staff (which is nice), the plants, rocks, driftwood and decorations. If I return, it will be for this. I will start looking around for a new fish store to go to when it comes time to stock my 7 gallon tank after cycling. Just be aware of the sick fish and no return/​refund policy!*

Wow, just wow. 2.50 fish died won’t return because they can’t guarantee the quality of our water? When all the fish we’ve bought there in the past is going fine? Sorry being stingy over $ 2.50 cent fish lost you guys a once very loyal customer. I do not recommend the aquarium depot for lack of standing behind their products at all.

I went, got over 100 $ worth of fish because they were close and had good reviews. Will never go again, brought the fish home, put in my isolation tank and not even 2 days later i had fish with fungus AND Ick. I bought almost 25 fish, and am now 2 weeks later down to maybe 10 and still fighting the Ick. at least got the fungus taken care of, who knows how many more i will lose before the Ick is finished being treated.
Tried to contact them (I have no way to talk, talk at the moment. voice is dead for awhile now) and they ignored my comment that the fish they sold me were sick.
I didnt get any saltwater, but the fact that walking through you see dead fish should have been an indicator…
Needless to say im going back to my LFS. i may have to wait longer for special items but they are rarely sick, and if they are sick the owners will take them back. (For those near Fairfield Sea Splendor is a LOT better.)

Live stock is way overpriced. They had a 1 ½in frag of birdsnest labeled as a colony, I thought it was a mistake so I asked for assistance to confirm the price. He confirmed that the 1 ½ inch frag of birdsnest was $ 34.99!!! And tried to tell me that it was a colony. Save your hardworking money and go somewhere else.

I really enjoy coming here. Great selection of fresh and salt water fish and reptile stuff. They have the best prices of the glow fish and have deals like buy 5 get 1 free. Decent prices on most things and friendly staff. You can also sign up for a rewards program and save up points for things. I’ve got a few fish here so far and can say most are still alive.

I have two turtle for one year and I had been struggle to figure out how to take care of both turtle so well. Turtle is new to me. I went to Petco /​Petmart store and I talked with them about turtle. It s not good enough information from them. Until I saw Aquarium Depot close to my home and I decided to stop by. Finally, I talked with right person about turtle and I got whole information. Plus I got everything what I needs from this store. Then now I’m taking care turtle so well and both turtle are more happy. They are friendly, help, and awesome.
If you have fish, turtle, lizard, frog, and etc then my strong recommend you to go there.

Incame to check this place out, being im from the bay area and visiting family inhave my own go to lfs where i live. The prices here are cheapest ive seen. A 10″ jardi i arowana for 120 thats cheap. I can get a 3″ for 100 where i live. Glo fish are super nice and actually separated by speices not mixed in same tank. Their saltwater collection is nice and the fish look super heathly. Freshwater some look iffy but most are heathly although i saw a few tanks overly crowded. Tank prices are beyond fair too. Their reptile selectiin was ok nothing to great.

Great selection of live plants for freshwater and live rock and corals for saltwater prices are very fair. Usually my go to store in the Sacramento area. Not always a huge fan of the livestock often they seem stressed from shipment but they have great prices and friendly knowledgeable staff.

I would give it one star if not for the decent reptile section. They actually do a decent job with them.
I’ve had okay fish here, but the last two batches I had to isolate in a sick tank and treat for ich because they didn’t look so good when I got them home (last group of cardinals I bought I lost 2 of the five). This is one of the few places around that doesn’t offer some kind of refund or take back hardware that hasn’t been used. I found that out when I bought an LED light here and found a much better deal a day later only to find that they don’t do refunds. The sign they had was much smaller before; apparently it’s been enough of a problem that they made it bigger.
The service here is pretty good, but some of the advice I’ve heard them give wasn’t entirely correct. I’d give them 2 stars for service.
The freshwater selection here is okay, nothing spectacular. If you’re looking to buy filter hardware/​aquarium supplies, look elsewhere because these guys are 20−40% higher than other places in the area and about 60%-70% higher than Amazon.
The saltwater selection is much better than their freshwater stock, but that isn’t my thing.
I’ve been an aquarist for over 25 years and moved back from Southern CA where there are some amazing fish shops and I’d been trying to find something similar reasonably close to me here in the Folsom area. I’ve been all over and only Aqua Life in Rocklin and JoJo’s in South Sac are worth it in the Sacramento Area in my opinion.

I drive over 100 miles round trip every week to see Jay and get my fix. This is the best aquarium store in NorCal… Thanks guys for everything!!!

Aquarium Depot is the BEST! They have the best selection of fish and very friendly employees. There is a Petsmart right down the street from my house and I would rather make the 30 minute drive to Aquarium Depot! All of the fish at Aquarium Depot are very healthy, I never see any sick or dead fish in their tanks. They also have really awesome sales, which I always look forward to! :)

I’ve never had bad service here. The guys are super friendly. I buy and deal with the reptile side only, but enjoy walking around to see the HUGE selection of gorgeous, healthy fish. Love this place.

Going here to look at their tanks of fish and reptiles was a treat. We stopped by to check in to see what they sold and I was impressed.
When I was by the front a married couple brought back some fish. There was a clear sign that said, NO REFUNDS, but the guy behind the counter still politely asked for a water sample before anything else could be done. They didn’t have one and the two groups started trading conditions of the fish and he guy behind the counter said they were keeping their tank too cold for the fish in their hands.
To me it sounded like the purchaser didn’t know exactly how to stock his tank and that isn’t the responsibility of the store. Though, if a customer is buying fish they should bring their tank set-​up written down so they can stock their aquarium properly.
In the end I didn’t buy anything because my tank is stocked to capacity right now. I visited this shop to see what they have and I was impressed. The 2 staff I interacted with were very nice. I will most likely come back in the future.

They have a large store with a tropical and marine fish section and a reptile section, they are very knowledgeable and helpful. When I started a marine tank I wish I would have known about them, I would have saved many hundreds of dollars and a huge headache trying to get advise on refugiums from several other shops and paying way more than I should have. They won’t sell you what you don’t need and their prices are very competitive.

These are hands down the best guys in Sacramento to talk to if you have or want to have an aquarium! My boyfriend and I have been shopping here for about a year and a half now and we absolutely love going into the store. It’s a beautiful shop, everyone that works there is super helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. They have a great selection throughout the store and great prices to match!

Sick fish! We have purchased plenty of fish from aquarium depot all of them have to be treated with ick! And there is no refund or exchange for a fish! I have never heard of that. I alway recently purchased a lightbulb from them. Take it home and doesn’t work. Went back the same day and they Wouldn’t exchange it for one that works! Horrible business practices!!!

Bad customer service. Sold me broken equipment and wouldn’t allow me to exchange it. Will never do business with people like this. Go to AQUA WORKZ instead!

After 5 visits to Aquarium Depot I am starting to understand they run a used old Petco central system, broken UV, no acclimation and sick fish in dirty tanks, each time we purchased fish and placed them properly into a hospital tank they had to be treated for parasites, you get what you pay here, if you buy something/​anything once you walk out the door it is yours, no refunds no guaranty no shit, does not matter fish, dry goods or hardware you are screwed them minute you exit their doors, they advertise «satisfaction guaranteed» what a fraud because they do not give refunds or exchanges «ALL SALES ARE FINAL, Ben, Jack, Jeff and Jason will lie to you over and over, we lost over $ 500.00 in fish purchased from them and that resulted in killing over $ 1000.00 in livestock, if they don’t like this review then change your bs policies and start being honest with the public.
My intention is to warn everyone about this place they are worse than any LFS in town, others give good customer service and healthy fish but not these guys «BUYER BEWARE!!!
Oh yeah their ad’s they place on Craigslist are double the price for the same item on Amazon, why support a rip off place? NOT ME!

I’ve bought multiple sets of fish here for my aquarium. None of my fish from here have died.
The employees here and friendly, and helpful! They know their fish, and take you needs into consideration. They have a big supply of different fish. However, they may have lots of fish, but not very many types. They have a lot of similar fish.
Overall, check this place out! They have great fish, and great equipment!

The best part about this fish store is their fantastic deals on plants. They also have regular weekend sales and a good selection of interesting fish. For a long time this was actually one of my favorite places in the Sacramento area, that is until I got a dwarf lobster from them. When I bought it I asked what it ate and they said scraps around the tank like shrimp. I have a few shrimp along with my fish in a heavily planted tank so I thought it would be fine. It was a super cool addition but after just 4 days it died.
I put it in a bag and brought it along with a separate water sample back to the store in hopes of exchanging it for another but when I got there I was surprised to learn that THEY DO NOT DO EXCHANGES OR REFUNDS. Apparently they have no guarantee on fish here. They just told me that I should feed my fish less and probably do a water change. My water quality was fine though I had been feeding my fish a tiny bit extra so there would be scraps for the lobster to eat…
Every other fish store I’ve ever been to has had some sort of refund policy… It’s just absurd. I’ve purchased countless fish here without incident but when I have a problem they basically just tell me tough luck. The lobster was overpriced and a bit expensive which made it that much more frustrating.
I ended up finding the same lobsters at Exotic Aquarium for cheaper and they have a great 7 day guarantee so I got a new one there. When I asked them what they feed them they said sinking algae pellets or frozen peas. That answer makes a lot more sense than scraps and the lobster really gobbles that stuff up!
Moral of the story is never buy expensive fish from Aquarium Depot. I’ll go for plants but that’s about it. Get your fish someplace with a guarantee (which is just about every other fish store in the world).

You know for a new business these guys have made a lot of progress over the last few years, I am very glad they are growing and keeping with their prices that cannot be beat, don’t waste your time driving to south sac. They have all you would ever need for both salt and fresh water aquariums, not to mention they have a reptile side too.
Great place, family owned so you know they care and it shows.

The customer service here is really bad. I came in to get a heater and my honey asked the cashier if he had any titanium ones. He put one on the counter and I looked at it. It was the same brand I had before that broke. I explained that I called the company and was told the warranty is invalid if you fully submerse it and it breaks. The cashier argued with me about the warranty. Then he took the heater and went back to the register. Another guy behind the counter did try help us. We were close to dropping $ 60 on a heater until the cashier starting smack about us to other customers. I refuse to spend money at any business where I am treated disrespectfully.

Great spot for a large collection of saltwater fish! My 4 year old enjoyed this place very much. Lots of cool fish to see. They have reptiles too.

I would never buy fish from this store again. When i was in there looking around i was kind of skeptical about buying anything because almost every tank was full of fish with ick. But i bought anyway thinking that i was safe with this tank. NOPE lost my whole tank except for 3 fish! I am so upset and wouldnt return here. I knew i shouldnt have ugghhh
