My first interaction with this cemetery was a few days before the 2011 Run Like Hell 5K. I did a practice run and ran through looking around wondering how«spooky» it would be on race day. The hills were a good challenge and I was too busy trying to get a good time(and not trip over myself in the almost pitch black path) to really soak up the night time scariness that a cemetery possesses. I read a bit on the WHC website and saw that it is one of the oldest(opened in 1843) in the area. It was also originally called The Second German Protestant Cemetery. The cemetery comprises 70 acres. As I was running through it I had no idea it was that big. The website also has a nifty genealogy search Try it out! I did see a really neat gothic church-like building and assume it might be a small chapel or mausoleum. I’ll have to check it out next time I visit. If you do jog through this place(or do the Run Like Hell, which I heartily recommend); watch the road as there were a few potholes and potential ankle twisting sections. Failure to do so could leave you as a permanent resident of the place… whaaa haaa haaa. /spooky laugh
