This hospital is awesome we came to visit my sister in law who is my husband’s baby sister. She had major surgery from the doctors, nurses the food court the gift shop everything was just great. They treat the patients with kindness and the visitors its a huge hospital but surprisingly we never got lost. there was always someone there to help you if you did all in all one of the best hospitals

I was admitted here for (2) nights last week following my surgery. The staff on the floor that I was on took great care of me for the most part, usually attentive. My review is based solely on this visit alone — as my rating would be much lower if I rated it on other experiences before.

It s been a while since I WAS THERE BUT I would like to share my experience. I was involved in a serious accident I was air lifted to this hospital when I was taken up to the ER I was asked if I had intentions of hurting my self or others I had never been asked that before. REALLY I was not there to be treated in the psych ward! Then this doctor came out of no where and started pressing on my stomach not knowing of my injuries, it was horrible. The whole time I WAS THERE I was seen by so many doctors I can t remember and they never gave me pain meds, I was treated as if it was a minor accident. I T– BONED a Ford F150 so it was just more than a small acident. They never offered me any thing to drink or eat and I laid there for hours while the staff talked about Halloween and what their kids were going to be. That place was so old and run down, dirty and confusing to who was the doctor or nurse that was treating you. I had to check myself in a second time because I was in so much pain and not to mention that I passed out due to the fact they never offered me any thing to eat or drink after I had ex rays. It was a horrible experience I would rather die than be seen by those people would not recommend this hospital to anyone it was not a good place to be. And you would think that this hospital being a training facility for doctors would be a up scale place to been seen in the ER.

Came here for the birth of my second child. Everyone here has been well knowladged, very friendly, and wanted to help at every turn. Bob and El at the birthing center were fantastic. Bob seemed to be teaching everyone a thing or two. We heard a few things before coming here about this hospitals infant wing that just seem to not be true. Good job guys.

My dad had an abcess on his liver and had to be put in University Hospital right away. A few things, the parking garage on Goodman is very convient, but sometimes there were larger cars taking two parking spots, another thing to mention is parking is 2.00.
The nurses on my dads floor the 7^th seemed overworked and had many patients. They were nice, but a lot of them were young and did struggle with the basics.
The dr’s would just show up two times during the day once in the morning and once around dinner time and that would be it.
It’s an ok hospital, there are certainly better ones in the region.

I suppose this review is more sentimental than anything, but I love this hospital. My dad has been suffering from severe gallstone attacks for months, and because he doesn’t have health insurance, every doctor he’s gone to has refused to treat him. According to him, he went to the emergency room at 4AM and almost immediately they took him back to see a doctor. By the next morning, they had him diagnosed and scheduled for surgery. They’re really flexible with payment plans, and even willing to discount services for those in financial need. Aesthetically, the hospital lobby is beautiful. Really well done.
And my dad says the doctors are hot.
So yeah.

My review will focus on non-​medical aspects of the hospital. Recently there have been several renovations which were definitely overdue. The area by the cafeteria has received a slight facelift and redesign and as Alecia mentioned, the Barrett Center had a total redesign that really is nice. It looks almost like a trendy coffeshop or something. Other parts such as a cafeteria are fine, nothing spectacular, but good enough. The additional eateries help supplement the traditional cafeteria food. (Occasionally they have a Cajun Meat pie that is a special treat)
Navigating the place can be tricky as there are often a half dozen different ways to get around, try to stick to the main hallways or just ask one of the friendly front desk attendants. The gift shop is rather small compared to other hospital gift shops I have seen, but at least there are the typical cards, flowers, and small gifts/​toys.
There is WiFi in most common areas, definitely bring a laptop (and charger) if you are going to be here for an extended period. There is a quiet zone in the cafeteria near the Starbucks. The chapel on the main level is also a good place to meditate and reflect.
The hospital does offer valet if you are unable to find parking in the area. I suggest that you park a block or two over on Highland or Rochelle or Donahue, but if you need to be closer, use their garage or the open lot bordered by MLK and Highland.
This hospital is a teaching hospital but has been nationally ranked by US News as #2 in adult specialties and high performing in 10 other categories. I know a few nurses that work here and all are very experienced and qualified.

Probably one of the worst hospitals I’ve ever been too. My father has been treated there for cancer for the last 6 years and it’s unfriendly, slow, inefficient and the staff are desensitized because it’s basically a ward of the state facility. Never, ever again.

The renovations at the Barrett Center look great. The staff is always so friendly.
