Hannah is the best! She always does a great job on my hair color and is quick about getting me in for appointments.

This is a great place to get a trim during lunchtime. I have long, thick hair and Sarah Hunterman does a great job with it! And she is quick so I can get back to the office in plenty of time. (Yay?) I also am able to manage it on my own, though, of course, it never looks as good as it does leaving the salon. I’m just not that adept at dealing with it. So I keep it simple and Sarah keeps it in good shape.
Now I have to go out somewhere tonight since my hair looks so good!

Great atmosphere and exactly what I was looking for in downtown hair care. No fuss amazing hair work on the fly. Fair prices overall and was given a discount on my first visit. They were able to deal with my busy schedule that makes setting appointments and meeting them a challenge. I work nearby at Leftcoast Modern Vintage and appreciate the quality services offered not just for me, but that I can also send my own favorite customers to that appreciate great service and a good hair cut.

The Soap Box Salon is a little modern miracle in the middle of downtown, I have walked by this place 1,000 times and never even knew it was there. I finally got a chance to go in during an event. After that I was convinced this was a place I could get used to!
If you live downtown you know, finding a salon is few and far between. A salon that you feel comfortable in, isn’t a million dollars, and that takes care of you when you are there. This is what you will get here. The owner and the girls that work there are all young and full of energy. They are up on the trends, and can give you anything you ask for.
The best part of Soapbox for me is the relaxing atmosphere. How many pop-​up salons do you see that have old 80’s hair posters plastered on the walls and horrible colors that make you want to put your eye out. Not this place; cool blue hues, and relaxing serenity greens fill this sleek urban salon and make you feel relaxed and comfortable.
Now on to Miss Natalie. Natalie was my stylist and I was seriously so annoying and I cannot believe she put up with my crazy schedule. I literally called her two days before and was having a hair meltdown. She came in on her day off to do my hair and I was forever grateful. Since it was my first haircut you get 50% off which is a great deal. For each additional person you bring in you get another 50% off. Whattttt? Great deal.
I got a cut and color, and I am super serious about my hair. Natalie took everything I said and basically made my hair come to life. My poor blonde hair had those gross drab yellow tones and she gave me a fresh new color that was even better than I thought. I was a little nervous about getting a couple different colors in my hair but she was totally right now it isn’t so monochromatic and I’m so satisfied with how it turned out. Let this be a lesson to all, they actually know what they are talking about!
One thing, they are a little pricer, but once you see the level of experience and skill (at least with Natalie) you will never have to worry if it’s worth the money, because you know you will leave happy.
Highly recommend, and thank the LORD I don’t have to drive anywhere outside the 275 loop to get my dang hair done anymore!!!

Great experience. I just moved downtown and wanted to find something walking distance from my condo. I was pleased to find out that your first time in, you receive 50% off your service. I had a full highlight typically $ 70 so I got it for $ 35. Angel was fun to talk to and delivered great results. The owner and staff were also very friendly.

Wow, what a responsibility to be the first one to review this Salon… If I would have to describe my experience here in 3 words, it would be «I loved it». That’s the short story.
The long one? Well, we came here for a Unilocal pampering event, turned out the owner of this salon is a friend of a friend of mine and she did an amazing job drying my hair into shape. I’m very particular about hairdressers and have been going back to Belgium to get my hair cut when I lived abroad the past 4 years. However, that’s a lot harder to do once you cross the ocean and go and live in the US so I really needed a haircut and I trusted Sarah as she did such a good job during the Unilocal pampering event.
I loved how I didn’t even have to call to get an appointment, you can just text! I definitely recommend Sarah Hunterman — she’s the owner and a real pro. I haven’t tried anyone else, I just know she’s really good.
I went into the salon thinking I wanted something else but not being sure about what exactly and Sarah asked the right questions, showed me a few examples in a book and I was set to go. Usually hairdressers complain about how much hair I have and how long it takes — none of that here! An efficient cut which turned out to be great. I felt like a different person walking out!
We’re a few days later now and of course I haven’t managed to recreate exactly the same great look but I’m still very happy with my haircut and will definitely be back!
Prices: the standard price for a cut is $ 50, which I think is pretty expensive (the main reason for not giving 5 stars). BUT the first time it’s only $ 25 and if you get a friend to go, it’s also only $ 25 for you — so that takes at least care of your first 2 visits. The other thing I missed from my hairdresser in Belgium is the fact that they don’t offer a drink (even just a glass of water would be nice?) and that the hair washing was quite functional (yes, I’m used to a head massage on a massage chair) — but I know that’s setting the expectations VERY high…
