What Scallywag Tag may lack for in new car shininess, it makes up for in character, awesome-​sauce branding and theme work, and just pure, clean fun!
Scallywag Tag has been a staple in Anderson and the Cincinnati community for years, bringing family friendly entertainment to the masses. And, what’s better than a pirate theme? If you’re going to go somewhere, run around like a mad-​man, and let your cut-​throat self out, then there is no better place to do it that at a pirate themed laser tag.
You’re going to have a blast at this place. And more importantly, your kids are going to LOVE it!
As some of the other reviewers have noted, the equipment is a bit dated, but that just is an element of character and a testament to this establishment being loved by so many for so long.
A giant plus of Scallywag is the ownership and workers. These people seriously love having fun and a good time — and they live the pirate life! They are great to work with. As others stated, the prices are more than reasonable, and the rates really make sense if you’re planning a party or go for the «all you can play» rates.

Came here for our daughters birthday over Gameworks. Definitely don’t recommend others making that choice. This place is dirty, it smells terrible, all the seats are torn up, the equipment is in terrible shape. Avoid. Plenty of other great spots for birthday parties, laser tag, and arcade games in Cincinnati.

Best place to host a birthday party. Everyone is really nice and everything is included. All we had to do was bring the birthday boy and cake. We had drinks, popcorn, pizza, and goody bags ready for us. Caleb, our party host kept refills coming and was very attentive to our party. The kids (and parents) had a blast. It was starting to get really crowded around 2 when our party ended so our advice would be to have the party early if possible.

I hate to say it, but this place needs a significant update. The equipment is out of date, the place is dirty and smells. I really wanted to like the place because the location is so convenient to our home for our son’s bday party. I just couldn’t do it. We’ll be trekking to Mason instead.

So Beth and Erin had to work late and i was asked to babysit Erin’s boys. Hmmm what is a good way to keep a couple of deck hands occupied than to give them a laser gun and full them full of soda and pizza!
We arrived at 5 pm on a Thursday for the 3 hour all you can play. After purchasing the bands we were advised that it was after school time until 530, so we had to wait till 540. Of course the boys were bouncing off the wall waiting, luckily they had an arcade with some decent games. We played some terminator salvation and time crisis 3.
Finally 5:40 came around so we could start some laser tag. The arena itself was very nice, smoke machines, mirrors, pirate and castle themes. It pretty much rocked. You start off in the briefing room getting the run down on the rules. After that you enter the equipment room, where you get your vest and gun. Once everyone is suited up you go and find your hiding areas and wait for the countdown to begin.
There are lots of bombs, bases, hiding holes, even a working piano! It was 15 minutes of craziness, but everyone had a blast. It was like being in high school all over again, just running around like crazy and shooting at everything that moved. After the game was done, you just walk back up to the counter and get your ticket for the next game. The endless game play for 3 hours was well worth the $ 15.
The food was ok but very reasonable priced. Cheeseburgers and nacho’s and pizza slices were all $ 2. Water was a $ 1, soda’s were $ 1.50. Snacks were able and fresh popcorn was made often. I wasn’t a fan of the microwaved cheeseburger but the boys loved the cheese pizza, I never seem then eat so fast. Then again it could of been because the next game started in 5 minutes.
Parking was in a lot, staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere was definitely pirate themed. After going to laser kraze and the web, this is by far the boys favorite so far.

I have been to Scallywag Laser Tag a couple time, and each time is more fun than the last. The environment is great, and you can tell that the employees think it is just as cool of a place as you do. The employees are always really nice and fun to be around. I have actually interacted with the management as well, and they are very professional and love providing a fun environment for the community.
The laser tag itself is really awesome. I have never been one to enjoy laser tag that much, but I really enjoy it when I play at Scallywag with friends. Maybe its because I love the pirate theme so much!
Over all, this place is a great place to go for a night out with friends or family. It is such a fun environment, and always has some kind of great deal you can take advantage of. I highly recommend it!

My family and I decided to check out Scallywag Tag on a Sunday afternoon because it was down the street, and we love laser tag. We are all adults, the youngest one of us 24. We knew to expect mostly children, small boys to be exact, and that’s what we saw. I was pleasantly surprised to see other adults and girls mixed in. I find short, 10-​year-​old boys to be about impossible to compete with in laser tag, so I felt like there was a chance I could actually get some kills. Um, wrong. I finished dead last in the first round… by tens of thousands of points. For example, I think the winner had 20,000 some points. I had 486. Obviously, some of the rules were lost on me. Which is surprising as this wasn’t my first rodeo. Or laser tag battle. Make sure to have the employee explain everything in detail before you start. Key items to understand:
The shields lose all color when they are struck. Until the lights go out, the other person can still fire.
You must hit a shield several times in order for the body sensor to be considered «hit» and disabled for a few seconds. Again, hitting the sensor once isn’t good enough.
Hitting the base once isn’t good enough. You need to hit it like 10 times. The first time you hit it you hear «the base is under attack.» That doesn’t mean you’ve got your points. You don’t have points until you hear «the base has been destroyed.»
If you feel your sensor struck but turn around to see no one on the other team, look down. There will be a 10-​year-​old by below eye level who has been following you around compulsively shooting you. Next time, be on his team. In fact, gather all of them on the same team so you can be the rat king.
Downside: The arcade isn’t «good enough» to warrant the annoyances presented by dinging, clanging, and buzzing of a busy arcade. I opted to wait in the entrance that has a bench. I’m still recovering from a roofie/​falling down the stairs incident, so perhaps I’m just more susceptible to the pains of loud noises.
The daily operations seem to be managed by teens. While they were all friendly, and wanted to help, they’re teens. For example, the second session we played was over sold for the number of guns/​vests Scallywag Tag owns (around 30 vests). I’m not sure how the staff would have handled the situation if a father and the 4 kids with him hadn’t offered to wait it out as they were the last to purchase their tickets.

I love me some laser tag! Have since high school. Only bummer is that as I’ve gotten older (and had kids) I don’t get as much time to enjoy this type of fun. Stupid being an adult and having responsibility. Great thing was with my old job, I could use the excuse of planning teambuilding activities as a reason to go to places like Scallywag Tag. And so I threw my students into a bunch of cars and we made our way there.
First time I learned about Scallywag Tag was during a parade. If you’ve been to any type of decent-​sized parade in the Cincinnati tri-​state area, you’ve probably seen the giant Pirate Ship driving down the middle of the street. Kind of funny actually, and it did the trick. Grabbed my attention and made me remember the name.
It had been years since I had played laser tag. So I walked in here with big expectations.
Big expectations. Big mistake.
Everything about this place is just dingy, dirty, and grimy. There’s an arcade with some decent games and cheap prizes you can win. The snack bar offers a number of quick, greasy eats (at really cheap prices, I’ll give them that). But the place doesn’t look like it’s been swept, mopped, or vacuumed in years.
But of course the arcade and the food is not the reason why you go to a laser tag establishment. It’s the lasers and the tagging. Be honest, the equipment isn’t all that great. Aging and ripped. About half weren’t working when I went. And the actual «arena» where you play is not impressive at all. It feels tiny, with obstacles thrown together, making it impossible to navigate. It feels unorganized and thrown together.
The crazy thing was the fact that it was an open arena. With most laser tag places the arena is in a separate room, apart from the rest of the place. This is just an extension of the main building with some dry wall put up to serve as a divider. You can actually just walk right in in the middle of a game if you wanted to. What?
Does this place completely suck? No. But I’ve been to far better laser tag spots to recommend this dive.

As ye all know, pirates love lasers almost as much as me grog. For ya spineless jellyfish that don’t know yer bilge pump from yer poop deck, we have ye covered! Scallywag Tag has group rates, so you and yer entire crew can save your dubloons. Da obstacle course tickles me pink, with sniping posts, a replica battleship, and a keel full of booty to get yer scurvy hands on. Keepin’ mind some younger adventurers will show their sorry faces here… but you’re ruthless pirates! YARRRR! But, as me mother used to say, ruthlessness is no excuse for poor manners.
Me first mate and I liked shootin the crystals to get points. errr, pirate booty! Thesein’ crystals can also give ye power ups, to purge da high schooler plague with extreme prejudice!
The scurvy dogs also have an arcade and snack bar, which will fill yer bellies with rum (soda) and hardtack! (chips) So come on down to Scalleywag Tag, and I’ll giveya a one way ticket to Davey Jones’ Locker!
