Must say I’m rather shocked that this is the first review for the Northside July 4th parade! I went to this parade in college, and after I moved back to the area, it’s been one of the events I’ve been looking forward to for months. Given Northside’s well-deserved reputation for diversity, eccentricity, and FUN, this parade reflects all of the above. You’ll have a group advertising drag queen races followed by a kid’s nature group, followed by a group advertising a co-op farmer’s market to a judge running for election handing out fans to the audience. The parade makes its way down Hamilton Avenue, and ends at Hoffner Park where you can get food, beer, and there are games for kids. My first year back in several years was blessed with wonderful weather, and as a result, the crowds were pretty deep even up by Pullan Avenue. Get there early if you want a good spot. Lots of folks bring their dogs to watch, so make sure your pooch is well-behaved around others in close quarters.
