Move Cheap Cincinnati Movers

DON’T HIRE MOVE CHEAP! Seeking to save a bit of money on my recent move, I hired Move Cheap.
The woman to whom I spoke, Kristen, said my intended moving day was open. She scheduled me in the morning and mentioned that they sometimes scheduled moves in the afternoon as well. I told her I had a lot of stuff and needed the movers all day. She said that was fine and promised not to schedule anyone after me for my crew. Based on what she recommended, I hired a three-​man crew and rented a 17 ft truck from U-​Haul, which Kristen was able to schedule through a link between the two companies. Little did I know that with a name like Move Cheap, you get what you pay for.
On the morning of the move, I drove to U-​Haul to pick up the truck. The 17-​footer seemed a bit small, so I sprung for the 24-​footer. That delayed me around 15 minutes. When I got to the house, the first thing mover Marty told me was that the third man I hired had quit via text that morning. Oh well, that happens. I showed him what we had to move. He then stated that they had until 3:00pm, then they had to leave for their next moving gig. I told him Kristen said they wouldn’t schedule any moves after me and I had them all day. He just shrugged and said he could probably get it done by then. We start the day down one mover and with a broken promise. Not a good start.
At 3:00pm more than half the truck was unloaded at the new house. Marty said, «Well, we have to wrap things up. Sorry.» I said «Marty, don’t leave me! I have no one to help me and there is some very heavy stuff left on there!» Marty looked sorry, and asked me to contact his boss Doug to see if they could stay and unload the rest – it wouldn’t take that long.
I called Doug. He argued that they had another gig to go to, and that no one should ever have promised me they wouldn’t schedule another move after me. Actually, his tone suggested I was lying and no one had ever told me that (they had). I explained that on top of that promise, their third man never showed up. It was no one’s fault, but we probably would have been done by now if I had three movers, as I had planned on in the first place. Here’s where Doug got delusional, saying that it was my fault for being late with the truck, and a third man wouldn’t have made much of a difference. I wondered if this guy had ever moved before. I never raised my voice, but this was starting to annoy me. I had a half-​full truck that had to be returned soon, a company full of broken promises and abandonment tendencies and all the other normal stresses of moving. I implored him, «Look, it won’t take that long to unload the truck. If they leave now, they’re already late – you’ll have two clients angry at you. If they just unload the rest of the truck, you’ll only have one client angry at you.» He didn’t buy it. As a last resort, I mentioned that I used to be in the media, and my friends at one of the news stations loved stories like this. I didn’t want to mention their company, but …
At this point, Doug exploded. He accused me of threatening him and started frothing at the mouth. Totally unprofessional behavior. He demanded I pay the movers so they could leave. I said I would be happy to – when the job is done. He screamed at me that if I didn’t pay now, he would call the cops and have a report filled out. I told him to knock himself out. He screamed, «I’M CALLING THE POLICE RIGHT NOW!» and hung up on me. Wow.
I walked out to talk to the movers. Marty was getting off the phone with Doug and looked like he’d swallowed a live scorpion. «My boss said I have to call the cops,» he said. I pointed out that by the time the police got there, interviewed everyone and filled out a report, the truck could be unloaded. No matter, Doug was insistent that they not unload my truck, and no logic or plea could move this manager to do the right thing. The cops came and things got ugly. I paid them for the work they did but will never forget this company’s lying and unprofessional behavior. DON’T HIRE MOVE CHEAP!

Ditto to Megan M and Jason H. Comments below. Terrible moving company. I used them two weekends in a row. First weekend wasn’t bad as the person running the crew kept the other guy hopping, if not he would stand and watch the other guy figure out packing of the POD instead of continuing to bring out more stuff. The second weekend was more of our smaller stuff and our back sheds. The slow guy was on this crew and hadn’t improved. I seriously watched him carry out couch cushions ONE at a time. When they first showed up they asked what would be moving as they wanted to know how to las the POD, but when I took them to our two sheds, I could tell they weren’t happy. So while the one guy took his time, I will give that the crew leader was working hard, but he didn’t do a good job off making sure his partner kept pace. The problem I had with the crew leader is that when the two hours was about over he refused to stay another hour. He said, «our paperwork says two hour minimum and two hour maximum, besides we can’t clean out your shed we can only get the big stuff». Well there were a lot of big stuff in our sheds in boxes that we wanted brought to the garage that wouldn’t fit in the POD. I told them I was told they’d come for two hours, but I’d we need an extra hour all we had to do was pay the additional $ 55. They refused, at 3pm on Sunday in almost 60 degree weather. Definitely the nicest day we’ve had this year. The first weekend I tipped both guess $ 20 each. I was going to tip more the next weekend as it would have been 3 hours instead of 2. I was so mad they refused I said fine let’s settle up and get out of here. I paid them the $ 104 remaining in the bill and handed them a $ 20 to the crew leader, the side kick knew he got 20 the weekend before stepped forward like to get his, and I said no way if you’d have stayed you’d got more.
So I called and left a message on the company line staying that I want happy. I also called in on Monday to talk to Doug (I think that is the manager) was told he was in the phone. Never returned my call. Mind you we will need to have people unload the POD at my new house which would probably be 5 additional hours in about two weeks from now. Didn’t even bother to call me back. If the company owners/​managers won’t return your calls how do you expect them to have decent employees who gives a rat’s butt about there work. BTW, I was told by the guy that was at my house both weeks that the crew later from the previous week (who did a good job for us) had been fired between the two weekends I had the out. I had requested the same team. Instead I got the lazy one from the week before and a new crew leader that decided he only was going to work my job for two hours. I paid two high school kids in my neighborhood to bring the remaining stuff up to my garage. Took them 45 minutes and they were happy as punch for the $ 55 plus $ 20 each tip.
I have two large PODS to unload in two weeks, betcha know who I won’t be calling!

Can’t ask for better service, right on time.
They could have easily dragged the work for more the allotted time, but they finished right on time. I am totally impressed and highly recommend for moving.

These were the best movers that I have ever used, and I have moved 6 times in the last 6 years. The guys were on-​time, super clean, incredibly friendly, fast, and organized. They greeted me with a handshake, did a walk-​through to assess the items, and wrapped the bannister and walls for protection. At the end, they tied everything to the braces inside the portable storage unit to prevent shifting during the move. I couldn’t have been more impressed.

We had a great experience with this company back in ⁰¹⁄₂₀₀₉. They were prompt, courteous and very efficient. We plan to use them again in an upcoming move.

Update on the insurance claim… we «settled» but they NEVER sent the settlement check. NEVER. I left messages and they never called back. I thought about getting an attorney involved but decided against it. I’ve spent too much engergy on this already. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

*I’m adding a star and an addendum to my original post. Once the ball got rolling on the insurance claim it was wrapped up pretty quickly. Again, it should be noted that I HAD to file an insurance claim, but at least you can rest assured that if you do, it will be taken care of. It should also be noted that Tim (the owner) was helpful and responded in a timely manner to my emails. However, for posterity and in an effort of full disclosure, I’m leaving my original post.

I had some difficulty with this company.
The movers were supposed to come between 3 and 4, (I specifically asked for an afternoon appointment — I had a variety of last minute things to take care of). I hired them to move my things into a POD. The movers called me at 12:30 and asked if they could come at 1… I compromised at 1:30, and they seemed rather irritated that they would have to wait.
As soon as the movers walked into my ONE BEDROOM (this information will be important in a moment) apartment, they started to haphazardly take boxes out, without taking stock of what needed to go into the POD. They threw boxes that contained my Pottery Barn dishes (boxes that were clearly marked fragile) onto a dolly and banged them down the steps. They failed to take the drawers out of my dresser, and (guess what!) the drawers spilled all over the sidewalk and are now scratched and split. A friend happened to be outside when it happened, told me they dropped the dresser and suggested I go look. When I got out there, the movers SAID they were going to tell me, but the dresser had already been loaded (with the drawers facing in…).
When I called to reserve the movers, I specifically asked if they would bring tools in order to take my bed apart. I was assured they would. Well, they did bring tools, but did not have the correct size wrench for my bed. They couldn’t have cared less. Luckily, I had two friends there helping me supervise (Thank God), who BOTH went home to see if they had the correct tool, which one of them did. We alerted the movers, who said «okay,» and continued to move the other things. Clearly the bed needed to be taken apart, and the movers were clearly not interested in doing it, so my friends and I got on our hands and knees to take care of the task.
After about an hour, the movers said that they were not going to be able to get everything into the container. I went out to look, and sure enough, the (sixteen foot) POD was nearly full with both my contents and a lot of unused space, due to inefficient packing. Now, I will admit that I do have a lot of belongings, but there was no way they couldn’t all fit in the container. The movers left at about 3:10, about 20 minutes before the 2-​hour hire was over. Before they did, they gave me Tim Armstrong’s business card (I guess the owner) and told me to call about the dresser.
Okay, so you might think this is the end of the story… not quite yet…
My dad came over the next day and looked at the POD and was in disbelief at how the container was packed. He called the company and demanded the movers come out and repack the container, and he does not want the same movers to come, because clearly they do not know what they are doing. When my dad said there was no reason they movers couldn’t get everything in the POD, the man with whom he spoke suggested that the movers had met their 2-​hour limit (which they did not, as they still had 20 minutes left… and if they had, they would just jump ship without making other arrangements with me?). I was hopeful when the man told my dad that they would send new movers out at 9:00 the next morning to repack the POD.
Guess who shows up at my door on Monday morning? You guessed it! I was mortified, and it was clear that the movers were irritated to be back. I called my dad and he LEFT work to come supervise. He stood at the foot of the POD and directed their packing.
I called the company the next day to discuss the dresser and the entire experience — I left a message with a person, who assured me it would be passed along to Tim and he would call me immediately… no call. I called numerous times on Wednesday and left a message, and finally got ahold of someone in the last afternoon. The man with whom I spoke had an excuse for everything… No tools — «Well, they had tools, but not one that fit your bed.» Sending same movers — «Well, that’s the only team we had available.»
None of this seems to be my problem — although Move Cheap doesn’t see these things to be their problem, eith

DO NOT HIRE MOVE CHEAP LLC!
The wife and I hired Move Cheap to load our stuff into a moving/​storage container for us on 6÷30÷2012 (yes, we are the family that Move Cheap blamed for Megan M.‘s issues below). I will expand on this statement in a minute, but DO NOT EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER hire Move Cheap to load or unload anything for you. Pay a little more money, and hire actual professionals.
I had already moved up to Madison, so it was just my wife, our two cats, and all the packed boxes from our 3-​story house waiting for the movers when they arrived the morning of June 30. When we set up the contract with Tim at Move Cheap, he knew that the house was 3 stories, and so there would be a lot of stuff, but, immediately on the day of the move, things got off to a bad start.
We had contracted with them for a minimum of 3 hours, with additional hours being charged at a per-​hour rate, but the guy walked through the door and said to my wife, «We have 3 hours here, and then we’re off to the next job.» When she told him that it was 3 hours minimum with additional hours as needed, he told her that she was wrong. She called me, I called the boss, reminded him that we had a signed contract that said otherwise, and he called the moving man who quickly changed his story. Of course, that’s when Megan M.‘s problems started (as detailed in her review below) :-(
Once we got the time issue sorted out, the 2 guys got to work. Well, it was more like one of them got to work and the other one «got to work.» A good analogy for his «work» would be when a kid shuffles his peas around the plate trying to make it look like he’s eating some when really, he hasn’t done a thing. The wife said she actually felt a little bad for the guy who was working because he was being left high and dry by the other guy.
At first, they weren’t wrapping the furniture with the paper padding or the plastic wrap we had bought for them to use, even though the contract said they would use it if it were supplied. The wife called them out on that, and so they began to «wrap» the stuff, but obviously didn’t want to be «wasting» their time on such a «trivial,» and so did a very half-​assed job of it. Again, a good analogy for how they wrapped the furniture would be wrapping a square present with just one piece of wrapping paper so that several portions of the package are still uncovered and unprotected.
They bumped furniture on stairs and walls. They stacked heavy boxes on top of our couch — WITH THE COUCH CUSHIONS STILL ON THE COUCH and not covered by anything (not even paper padding or plastic wrap)! They loaded desks and dressers into the POD and placed them on their legs, not on their flat tops as they’re supposed to, and then loaded heavy boxes on top of them as though the furniture’s legs would be able to support that amount of weight and vibration during the move.
When we unloaded the stuff into our new home in late August, we discovered that 2 pieces of furniture (a gorgeous desk and a dresser) had been DESTROYED (pictures are attached). We also saw just how bad a packing job they had done with the rest of our stuff. In fact, the company we hired in Madison to unload our stuff commented, several times, on how poorly everything had been packed, and even asked whether we had loaded the thing with the help of amateur friends!
We filed an insurance claim for the two destroyed pieces of furniture with Tim at MoveCheap in early September. He confirmed with me that he had received both the form and the pictures, and said he would send it to the insurance company. A month later, I still had not heard anything about the claim, so I called Move Cheap’s insurance company (Weston Insurance in Cincinnati). They never received my insurance claim = TIM NEVER SUBMITTED MY INSURANCE CLAIM!!! How completely unethical, devious, and possibly illegal!!! So, luckiliy, Weston Insurance seems to be a legit business, and the helpful woman there started initiated a claim for me over the phone. I’m still waiting to hear from an adjuster, but the process does seem to be moving along. I will update this review once I’ve resolved the insurance claim.
Anyway, we never received an apology from Move Cheap — not from the movers or from Tim the manager. We received no «Thank you» or even confirmation that we had paid our account in full immediately.
So, bottom line, this company deserves a «0,» and I hope that no one EVER hires them again. They did not deserve our business, they did not deserve Megan M.‘s business, and they do not deserve YOUR business.

NEVER EVER USE THIS COMPANY! Trust me.
I made a reservation with Move Cheap over a month ago to move me from Loveland to Covington on 6÷30÷12 at 1:00 PM. On 6÷29÷12 at 4:00 PM I confirmed with the company that they would be arriving the next day at 1:00 PM.
At 1:05 PM the day of the move, I got a voicemail from the company (Tony) saying the following:
«Hi _​_​_​_​this is Tony from Move Cheap. I was wanting to call and let you know that we’re running behind today. With the storm yesterday it uh really put us behind. We went to this customer’s house and she had a lot more stuff than we thought. So uh, we were hoping that we could show up to your house about 4:00. Uh, if there are any issues or anything, just give me a call. My name is Tony, number is _​_​_​_​_​_​_​. Thank you.» At 1:06PM I returned Tony’s call, only to get no answer.
Seriously?! They called me five minutes AFTER they were supposed to show up and said they were thinking they could show up three hours LATER?! Keep in mind I had a U-​Haul sitting in my parking lot that I had reserved for six hours.
I completely understand that things happen that are outside of a company’s control. Yes — the storms the night before may have caused them to have to push a Friday night move to Saturday. And yes — they may have under estimated the time it would take to move a customer that had a reservation before me. But either way, there is NO EXCUSE for calling me at 1:05 to let me know that they were running three hours late. When they realized Friday night they would need to push back the Friday appointment to Saturday, they should have called me immediately. And when they started to realize that the customer had more belongings than they thought, they should have called me immediately.
MOVE CHEAP TRULY RUINED MY ENTIRE WEEKEND. My boyfriend, myself, and my 55 year-​old mother had to move every item from my two bedroom home. We did not finish moving until after midnight, and I had to pay extra fees to the U-​Haul company for not having the truck back in time.
Please, trust me — do NOT use this company…

The move cheap movers showed up at my house and I could immediately tell they were not the same caliber of professional mover I had used in the past.
They scratched my $ 2500 Pottery Barn dresser getting it down the stairs. The movers who got it up the stairs managed to get it up without any damage, so obviously these two had no idea what they were doing.
The worst part was when a different moving company started unloading my truck in Chicago and piece after piece of furniture was damaged from being loaded incorrectly.
This company hires untrained workers that have no idea what they’re doing. And 2 ½ months later I still don’t have a penny from the insurance claim.
My recommendation; go with Two Men and a Truck, I should’ve stuck with a company I knew I could trust.

Move Cheap was a great company to work with. The movers came early and were very friendly and professional. They were able to move very heavy pieces with ease, and even moved my large pieces around tight corners and small doorways with no problem. When they were done they even assembled my multi-​piece desk and bar stools! No complaints here :-)

We found these guys on emove and booked help for a couple of hours for a one way move.
Communication after we made the reservation was superb. We booked help on what I consider short notice (2 or 3 days ahead of time) and not only was the help on time, he was early. I found the prices reasonable and they provided a courteous and professional service.
All and all, a great service.
