Half Price Books

I grew up going to this store! When I was in high school, I would sit and go through all of their music and soundtracks, looking for a gem. I still have fun doing the same thing with their movies. They always have a clearance rack and you never know what you’ll find!
There’s free coffee and comfy chairs, so this is the perfect place to spend an afternoon!

So I’ve been living under a literary rock!!! How did I just discover Half Price Books!!! I’m so happy I stopped in, I was in heaven: books and not just ordinary books, half priced books!!!
Since I’m not responsible enough to return books to the library on time (I banned myself), I purchase printed books frequently. Never really caught onto downloading electronic books either.
So I couldn’t contain myself when I started using my book list to help me navigate to the appropriate sections of the store to find my next reads, all at majorly discounted prices. The books I picked up were fairly easy to find, the large signs and stickers on the shelves really help out! I love browsing in book stores, it wasn’t too crowded and I wasn’t in a rush, so I took my time.
Although newly released books are more difficult to find here, they carried three of the books I was looking for (two in hard cover I might add)!!!
Definitely returning for future book purchases.

By far my favorite HPB locale in the Cincinnati Area! I come in «just to browse» and walk away with 30 – 50 dollars in books each time. The staff are always friendly, helpful and courteous, and the selection of books is wonderful. The clearance section is almost always diverse and full of great buys as well.

Place is pretty solid.
I like the fact it smells like old paper.
You can trade in junk you don’t what for more junk you don’t want.
You can find old literary classics for dirt cheap. Put them on your shelves act like youve read them, but you never did. Live a lie.

This book store might be one of the best places I have ever found any great books I have nothing but good reviews and go there often two thumbs up if you can’t find something in their store they will help you find it or they will order it in always great prices

Love this place! The buying and the selling are great. There are always interesting finds in the clearance section as well.

If your in the market for used books movies or cds this is a perfect location. Very affordable prices and the quality of used items are usually like new. Only reason for 4 and not 5 stars would be the selling side of the business the amount they offer does not seem consistent and you could get more is you sell yourself online.

If you love reading and like to go old school with an actual physical book, absolutely stop in here. I cannot even describe how amazing this place is. I highly recommend stopping into the cookbook section and the children’s section. Not only can you snag the best selling books for half the list price (thus the store name), but the selection is out of control! You can spend HOURS looking at the different options. Don’t think you can just run in to grab a book or two. This is not the type of place that is a quick stop. It is easy to spend an hour or two looking around and even easier to spend double to triple what you anticipated to spend. I’m not sure how I end up leaving with an entire stack of books, but it happens every time.

My favorite thing about bookstores are the cute girl workers who parade around looking like innocent librarians. My second favorite thing about bookstores are the books! Nothing gives me greater pleasure than an afternoon spent in the bookstore perusing through multiple novels.
Half Price Books is THE place to buy books in the city. But it’s more than a bookstore. They sell DVDs, CDs, calendars, pens, bookmarks. It’s like a veritable Walmart without all the riffraff and no food, electronics, toys, or clothes. Okay, well I guess it’s not like Walmart but more like Barnes and Noble, but everything is half price! I’m not sure but I feel like that’s where they got the name for the store: Half Price Books!
If you’re like me, you never finish a book. Well thank God for Hollywood cause they take all the best books and turn them into even better movies. Half Price Books is perfect because I can stop in and buy the book, the movie, and the soundtrack (because I already know The Hunger Games soundtrack is going to be beast).
There is no better deal in town when it comes to buying books. That is until someone wises up and opens 60% Off Books!

One of my weekly stops! I love coming to Half Price and see what new items I can find. From movies, to books, to old magazines, Half Price has it all!

Ah, how I love Half Price Books. The vastness of it, the cheapness of it, the booky-​ness of it. It’s great.
This one is just as large as other HPBs, even if it doesn’t look like it from the front (since it’s semi-​hidden in a strip mall.) If you drive around back, that’s where the front doors actually are (weird as that sentence may be) and a giant parking lot to boot. I promise, you may feel like some sort of sneeker creeper driving around the back of a strip mall, but you’re fine.
Like all HPB, this is not a place to go with a book in mind. Sure, you may get lucky and find it, but if you want a really specific book, go to Amazon. If you want to browse and find books you didn’t know existed but are awesome (and so damn cheap), this is your place to be.
The staff is hit or miss. Some of them are insanely friendly and willing to help. Some are not, and are not. But there are a bunch of people working here at all times, so if you fail on one, walk to another isle and try again (much like book shopping here.)
Also, they’re going to low-​ball you on buying stuff back, but they will buy back mostly anything — DVDs. books, games, records, etc. Just a note.

Have bought many books here and spent many hours here! This is a great place to go and just explore books in any catogory you may be interested in. Also, giving a gift card from HPB to someone is a great idea. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.
The only neg. I have is that they give WAY to little when buying books back.

I love Half Price Books. There are four or five Half Price Books in the Cincinnati area (Mason, Colerain, Hamilton). This is the best one.
The best deals are found in the paperback sections. Old books with a list price of say 95 cents. I have found books by Phillip Roth, William Faulkner, Toni Morrison, Larry McMurtry, John Updike, and other great authors for less than a dollar.
The inventory usually is hit or miss but if you’re looking for an old classic that is a public school staple like To Kill a Mocking Bird or 1984 or The Catcher in the Rye, you will always find one for a good price.

My favorite thing about going to Half Price Books is the fact that it feels like I’m walking into a Scholastic Book Fair, like they had in elementary school. Half Price not only sells an assortment of books for cheap, they also have oodles of papergoods and things that compliment reading material… like book side dishes.

I nabbed some classy thank you cards for only $ 2.50 for a 20-​pack. Also, those bookmarks with the tassels start at 49 cents. With all my epic Unilocal Bookclub reading, on top of my own read-​for-​pleasure and work-​research books, I need all the snazzy bookmarks I can get!
The Half Price staff has always been helpful here too. Tye helped me hunt down items and knew exactly where to look. We had a friendly chat about our current reads too. There are always plenty of people working both on the salesfloor and keeping the line short at the register.
While I love purchasing from Half Price, I’m not as big a fan of selling my used books. Half Price sells books for half of the retail value, so, in turn, the most you can get is half of half, or a quarter of the current retail price. Chances are, your used books are selling for $ 2.00 on the Internet, so Half Price can’t offer you much to stay in competition with the web.
Like I said, if you’re shopping for papergoods, you’ll find unique styles for low prices at Half!

I could spend hours here! Half Price Books has helped me out so many times for cheap books for school.
They have Dvds, Music, Books, gifts etc.
I can always find what I am looking for plus more!
You can even bring in used books, DVDs, Music, etc. to get money but I will advise that if you take used items here to not expect much money in return.

Away from the snobbery of Kenwood Mall, Half-​Price caters to book-​lovers who wants the most bang for their buck. The staff is always friendly and helpful.
They also do cash trade-​ins for those of us who have way too many read books lying around (or those of us who are just low on funds!). Walk in with a pile of read books and come out with a pile of whole, new ones!

this is one of those places i have to bring 20 bucks in cash into and leave my wallet in the car. What a treasure chest of literally awesomeness.
I find myself walking around half price books for a good hour everytime Im in there, just because of the plethora of used books they have. the deals are so good that I almost feel like I have to get to them before someone else does (thus the 20 dollar rule).
The store is well organized, clean, and well lit. There is a large music section upfront as well as a computer software section. I found myself an original copy of Warcraft one day that was in perfect condition. (nerdfest)
as far as pricing goes, most books are literally half off. I love seeing how much the book would cost new right next to their sticker with their price.
I hear people get upset when they bring in their books to sell them and they dont get as good as a price as they hope. The one time i brought in books I thought it was pretty low but, its a second had store, they have to make money some how. They have always provided me with quality, cheap reads, so I didnt mind feeding back into their store.
the one thing i wish they had where more chairs to sit and read a bit before buying the books.

You know folks if one thinks ya gonna get TOP $ for the stuff ya bring into these places… dont know where your logic/​common sense is coming from? So think again… if thats ‘possible. So MANY compliants/​whining/​bitching/​bemoaning of what you DONT get for ‘financial compensation!
Rip-​offs? Where??? Supply and demand. Interestingly, many of ya buy your Shit at full price (even if not) dont want it anymore… making it more ‘disposable’, then EXPECT to b given what you want or THINK (usually misguided) should Be. Uh-​huh the ‘entitlement’ mentality! Nada Nada Nada!

Retail has held many parameters over the years… and one of them is without question… you the consumer!!!
Stop acting animals who walk circles in their cages… quit dreaming and get on the beam!!!
As for the merchandise… the only qualm I have with the various ½ pricers Ive been to, is the some of the ‘condition’ of the albums that are being sold! Each facilty or I should say the ‘appraiser’ sometimes DOESNT check for certain things… ie if the record is ‘warped’ if its the RIGHT album in the sleeve/​condition of the record jacket. Have brought this to every ½ pricer Ive been to and DID see the infraction.
One other thing is that they DONT check the record for snap crackles and pops etc. So one is taking the chance… but but but WILL cheerfully refund your $ (or even exchange it for another copy) if the long player is off kilter. A BIG PLUS in my book and DEF worth the price of admission.
So for the ‘hollers’ D-O-N-T…if you think your gonna be ‘taken advantage of’. then go to your LOCAL LIBRARY and rent the book/​cd what have you for F-R-E-E…so you wont have to wallow in so-​called discontent when you cant get the bread you THINK you should be asking for!!!

Best Feature: GREAT book prices and fantastic selection!

This is my favorite and most preferred place to buy books. I’m all about bookstores — I love the lounging, the reading, the smell of printed paper and the feel of worn covers underneath my fingertips. However, places such as Border’s and Barnes and Noble are generally a bit pricey for my modest budget.
If you don’t mind getting used products, this store is perfect for the frugal book-​lover. The location is great — right around great eateries in Kenwood and only minutes from Kenwood Towne Center. I love what they’ve done with the interior — over the past few years, they’ve worked hard to make this not only a place to buy books, CDs, DVDs, records, and more, but also a place to lounge and enjoy the reading experience. They have assorted furniture pieces around the store that make for a great break in the shopping experience.
Another great feature is the fact they will buy books, CDs, DVDs, and other media from you. Recently I moved and decided to make some money off of the items I wasn’t using anymore. It’s not always for a lot of money, but even a couple bucks is worth giving up things that aren’t needed and could be loved by someone else.
The only complaint I have is that for whatever reason, I tend to meet unpleasant employees who make the shopping experience feel awkward and unpleasant. Don’t get me wrong — I’ve met splendid people at Half Price who are helpful, friendly, and make the visit a memorable one. However, I recently stopped in to sell back books and buy a book, and I got one employee who was helpful and pleasant; the other two I met looked at me blankly and were not helpful at all.
No food or drink, so that is one drawback that might disappoint those who enjoy grabbing coffee and reading a bit.
Despite a few weird experiences, I’m giving this one 5 stars for being affordable, inviting, and making my book-​shopping experience a real adventure!

I love buying things that other people used for a fraction of the price they paid for them.
I always looked for sweet deals in all places. And, a place with half-​price in the names has got to be a place for me!
I’ve been to a bunch of different Half Price Books and they’re all awesome. This one in particular is great because it’s in the middle of Kenwood. People in Kenwood buy very expensive things. And, when they’re done with them, they sell them. And, I gain! So… I win over and over again!
