Place is pretty solid from what I remember. Ha I think I got the Doritos one. And I think it was good because I was told I finished it. Shoot they could of charged me $ 40 and I still would have bought it. But no a simple $ 6 and I’m on my way eating Doritos in a pretzel bun. I’ll be back for a more memorable review

This is my late night grub spot after a long night of drinking. These sammies are to die for! I always go with the pizza sandwich. Its a pretzel style bun which is steamed and then topped with marinara sauce, ooey gooey cheese, and some tasty pepperoni. These sammies are so good that I order an extra one for when I wake up hungover craving something fatty and delicious! Conveniently located around the corner from a strip of Downtown Cincinnati bars, I see numerous people stumbling to get their hands on these over the top sandwiches!

Loved the steamed pretzel bun and cousin Vinnie sandwich. Had gluten free bun for my wife and she really liked it(steamed too), which is rare(gluten free breads aren’t typically good). Small and sparse, but warm and cozy. WiFi — ask for password. No cups for tap water. Only bottle/can drinks.

Don’t try and be healthy when you go to this place, stick to the steamed sandwiches with pretzel bread.

Great sandwiches! I had the Christopher Walken. So good on the steamed pretzel bun. Veggies were very fresh and mushrooms were the best part. Pulled chicken was cooked well and the pesto was delicious

Really good steamed sandwiches. Late at night, it be slow, so, be prepared. They make one sandwich at a time and they have one poor guy making them all.

I usually don’t get a chance to go to Indy restaurants outside of my regularly frequented spot but I stopped in to this spot after midnight for a late bite and was surprised by the differences this spot had from its Clifton location. It was definitely set up for volume. Place order, get food, leave. I’m assuming because there are hella clubs the line is monsterous on busy days. It also seemed a little industrial/urban in design with the metal steps leading to some upstairs table and skids with spray painted menu behind the register. I walked in with no line and got the Razzle Dazzle. It came hot and quick. Everything you’d expect to get when your half drunk. I can’t even say what was on it because it was a smushy steamy mess! All I remember is bacon and Doritos… and that’s all I needed!

To be clear, the sandwich I ended up with was delicious. HOWEVER, we waited 20 min only to find out the girls making sandwiches were actually just drunk and watched one just get kicked off the line. When I got home I found all 4 sandwiches I ordered in the bag, plus one mystery piece of paper with bread and some sour chicken-ish product inside. The fact that we watched drunk girls just dick around with sandwich ingredients for 20 min is why this place gets 1 star. Hope whatever OTR hipster owner that owns this place gets a more serious business partner.

Tried their sandwiches for the first tonight. Ordered off the late night menu. The thing that stuck out the most was the fact that they did not remove the casing around the pepperoni on the sandwich that made it impossible to eat. I called the restaurant to let them know and got the answering machine. After we removed the casing the sandwiches were pretty tasty. Pizza sandwich was spicy and very good. The razzle dazzle had amazing flavor. The dorrito was really bland. Had no sauce on it. Takes a while for the sandwiches which is fine. The pepperoni incident really turned me off though

Maybe I’m just not the kind of person who wants Doritos on my sandwich(or on anything, really), so I’m possibly not part of the target market here. That said, I do love the texture of steamed bread, so I see much potential in the concept of a steamed sandwich, but my visit here left me wanting more. For one thing, there weren’t many healthy options in terms of either breads or toppings. A whole-grain bread option, for instance, would be nice. Also, the pulled chicken and swiss cheese on my sandwich were both somewhat tasteless. And then I didn’t like having to pay separately for each vegetable topping I added to the sandwich(tomatoes and lettuce should be free options at any sandwich shop). Finally, the combination of a hot bun with room-temperature fillings was odd.

I’ve been in twice now for lunch. It’s good but it takes a lot for a sandwich to be great for me. First off get the pretzel bun. It was delicious. I actually think I should have gotten less on my sandwich so it highlighted the bun more. I got the Promiscuous and added banana peppers. I’m not a vegetarian but I don’t really like lunch meat. I think I would try something different next time. It was good but a little on the bland side. I think the amount of neutral veggies were working against the flavorful parts of the sandwich. Like the spinach and the iceberg. Maybe skip the iceberg and the out of season tomato. Also be warned the steaming process takes time so this is not the quickest stop for lunch. Prices were good. Overall it’s not high in the places I would go for lunch since I go out rarely however I would go again if I was looking for a cheap and semi quick bite.

This place is a godsend. Not only does it hit the spot for late night food after the bars, but as a bonus it’s good sober too! If you are a Miami alumnus, nothing will ever hold a candle to our beloved Bagel & Deli, but Gilpin’s is the next best thing outside of Oxford. The bagel options are customizable and steamed just the way I like them. If you’ve been drinking, I highly recommend anything with Doritos. If not, their vegetarian bagel is unreal(but don’t forget to add bacon).

I wish I knew what the food was like. On a Cincinnati bengals vs. Browns game they had one person working. That person produced one sandwich in 45 minutes. Absolutely baffling!

They service was friendly and fast. This was my first«steamed» sandwich, and maybe I’m just not a fan of that style.

Best bagel sandwiches ever! I always get the Colorado bagel. Grilled turkey with Swiss cheese and avocado. Great pit stop after being out all night.

Sweaty-bagel sandwiches. I’d rather starve. Aside from the inviting atmosphere, this place doesn’t really scream, «stellar».

I love that Gilpins knows exactly what they are and have a lot of fun with it. In the wasteland that is downtown after 8pm Gilpins will sustain you after a long night of cocktails. Known for their steamed sandwiches Gilpins offers a large menu of different sandwiches to choose from. The most popular is the«Dorito.» It’s an odd combination of turkey, honey mustard, and Doritos(you can choose between Cool Ranch or Nacho) served on a pretzel bun and steamed to delicious warm gooey perfection. I thought the combination was a bit odd, but the flavors come together in an amazing taste explosion. Be advised you will likely wear some of your sandwich home. It’s fine… it’s like a parting gift or a snack for later. These sandwiches are steamed so they are gooey to say the very least. Gilpins is open until 3am! Beyond a certain point they only offer their drunk menu with a list of sandwiches in large bold print which you can drunkenly order by simply stating a number. Seriously these guys know what’s up when it come to late night bites. Give them a try the next time you find yourself stumbling around downtown during the wee hours of the morn.

I’m usually here after a night drinking but I always remember this place for this amazing Dorito sandwich or something similar to that. It is always fun to talk with the employees and the inside is pretty fun also with a loft style seating with a few tables.

I LOVE this place! There are a lot of different items on the menu, or you can customize your own sandwich. The staff is always very friendly. The last time I was there, I asked the girl to just make something up and surprise me(which she was very enthusiastic about), and I ended up with a delicious pizza burger(which is not on the menu) so it was fun! Seating is somewhat limited(there are a few tables upstairs), but it’s not generally very crowded so I’ve never had trouble sitting down to eat. It’s a great place to go if you want to just have a nice, inexpensive, quiet dinner — especially if you’re looking for somewhere to get food late at night!

Ok, this is my first time trying gilpins. I went last Saturday night when they only has the late night menu available. I got the veggie sandwich. I can’t say it was good or bad. It was edible and I ate it. The veggies where fresh and the other toppings were fresh as well. I guess I’m still confused why it’s steamed. Maybe I will try it again for lunch.

I cannot say enough good things about Gilpins. It is a rare gem right downtown. One of the few places open late, the menu boasts of meats, veggies, and cheeses all available on a delectable pretzel roll. You can order from the menu, the drunk menu, or create your own. And Doritos can be added to any sandwich for an extra tasty crunch. Steamed sandwiches are absolutely the best after a night out. Grab an old fashioned glass bottle Coke, a promiscuous veggie sandwich with cool ranch Doritos(my personal fav), and enjoy a drunk foodie’s dream nibble.
