History

Established in 2007.

Brian Calkins, the owner of HealthStyle Fitness, a private fitness studio in Cincinnati, opened the first Cincinnati Adventure Boot Camp location in 2007. Since then, due to popular demand, he has added 5 additional ABC locations across the city.

Cincinnati Adventure Boot Camp for Women currently has boot camp locations in Anderson, Blue Ash, Bridgetown, Florence, Oakley and Springboro.

Brian has been honored as one of the nation’s top 50 personal trainers by the American Association of Personal Trainers and his fitness approach featured in The Wall Street Journal.

Having worked with over one thousand individuals, Brian’s developed a warm, motivating & enthusiastic style and approach to fitness that has helped many people weed through all the weight loss and fitness hype and learn what really works.

He has a strong passion for helping people educate themselves about health & fitness and improving their energy & vitality. Brian operates a private fitness studio on Red Bank Road, just off I-71, as well as Adventure Boot Camp. I have been going to adventure bootcamp for women for a few years! At first it was just to get fit for my wedding but I made some amazing friends and I absolutely love going! It is great too because I am able to knock my daily workout out before my son even wakes up! It’s the best way to kick off your day and I am super happy I made the decision to get healthy with them!

I’ve been coming to bootcamp for over 3 years now, and it’s truly one of the things I love about Cincinnati. When I made the decision to tell my company I’d be willing to move (if needed) it was one of the first things I considered would be a con to leaving. It’s hard to replicate the workouts and the support system.
I never considered myself a «morning person», but I was never a «working out» person either. For the majority of college, I didn’t schedule workouts and, you know what, it worked out fine. When I moved to Cincinnati post-college, being on a new schedule with new stresses meant my body wasn’t giving me as much grace as it did before. Now I can’t imagine not having bootcamp. I still miss days all the time (yes, 5:30 is early and, yes, my bed — like yours — is awesome), but this is the first time I have felt like my lifestyle has changed vs. going through a «phase». (My P90X phase, my yoga phase, my Rhythm & Motion phase, my work-gym phase…)
I love that you show up and Brian just tells you what to do. No time to wander around trying to come up with something, no getting bored, no letting the time get «scheduled over» by meetings or other commitments. I also love that you can make it as intense as you want it, or not. Some of us bring 30lb weights, and others are at 8lbs. It’s all good. Brian’s great about just being encouraging, not intimidating or hyper-competitive. Still, you see some of the women there and you want to get after it. It’s a really encouraging environment full of a lot of strong women and one cool dude, even if physically some of us are still discovering how strong we could be.
