Cappel’s is your year-round, every day destination for party supplies, costumes, accessories, and makeup for professional and costume use (e.g., Ben Nye and Mehron). Cappel’s has been operating in Cincinnati since 1945. We are a retail and wholesale distributor of party, wedding and seasonal party décor and novelty items. Our five Greater Cincinnati store locations and full-service web site offer all-year-round shopping in a wide range of prices. Cappel’s is well-stocked at Halloween and all throughout the year for every holiday, school play, fundraiser, and event.
History
Established in 1945.
William and Urban Cappel began Cappel Display Company in 1945, trading their butcher shop to become a supplier of display fixtures for department and other retail stores. Because of its location near WLW-TV, customers occasionally stopped by after visiting one of the live local TV shows, such as Ruth Lyons 50 – 50 Club, The Paul Dixon Show and Bob Braun’s 50 – 50 Club. Over the years these customers made frequent trips to Cappel’s, especially at Christmas time and gradually the retail trade became a primary focus.
In the early 1980’s, costumes were introduced into the product mix, at first on a seasonal basis. Today, Cappel’s has four retail locations, an inventory of 50,000 items, and many loyal customers who return for the depth of our product line and the lure of good price. We are thankful for the loyalty of our customers, and hope to continue to provide a great selection of party decorations, novelties, costumes, and silk flowers, including many hard to find things.
