Not your standard Indian but definitely tasty! This is an order at the counter sort of place. Very casual with paper plates and the like. I really prefer a place with table service but the food is tasty and will keep me coming back. The menu had a number of things that I had not tried and all were quite good. The Dahi Puri appetizer of little fried cups filled with sauce and other things was fun and awesome. Their bhatura is the best that I have had. The sweets were good. One was great but don’t remember the name. Only tried a couple of apps and sweets this trip but will return!

I live in Houston and am traveling to Cincinnati. I’ve heard so much of this restaurant and wanted to find out the hours. The lady who answered the phone kept hanging up on me and said«she’s without name» and doesn’t have time to attend to phone calls. No matter how positive reviews ur food have gotten, there is no way I’ll be bringing my business here or stopping off to eat here. Tahoora in Chicago has way better customer service and good food.

Very good food but very bad attitude from owners. Especially the people who are at the counter. Need to learn and implement basic customer service language.

I’ve been going here for over 10 years now. It’s by far the top few restaurants in the US when it comes to vegetarian North Indian snack(chaat) and a la carte dishes. I’ve not had better dahi puri, choley bhatura or ras malai in my life. Consistently fantastic taste, great value for money, simple and straightforward service. My highest recommendation ever. Period.

Good food but indifferent, bordering on rude, service. I guess it is par for the course for a joint that attempts to fit a carry out/casual dining model. We have been going there for years and the owner/proprietress has never gone out of her way to be anything but transactional and aloof. Given the casual nature of the place, I have never thought much of it. But my experience yesterday left me disappointed and a bit miffed. I had stopped by for some carry out and spent about $ 23 for a couple of dishes and some bread. As I waited for the food I was tempted to try some of the sweets on display. So I went back and ordered a couple of pieces, and attempted to pay for it by credit card. The amount this time was $ 2, and the lady behind the counter(presumably the owner) told me that the minimum for a credit card was $ 5. I was flabbergasted as I had just spent $ 23 and some change. Had I ordered the sweets five minutes prior I would have been ok! Since credit card fees work out to a % of the transaction does it really matter if I waited to tack on the addl. purchase? x% of(23+2) is the same as x% of 23 + x% of 2… basic math. But regardless, this type of pettiness was disappointing to encounter, esp at a place where I have been going for years. My average visit involves $ 20 – 25 in food purchases. The other thing that floored me yesterday was the sheer rudeness I encountered when I asked for a spicy condiment. The same lady, refusing my request, asked me if I didn’t have«chili powder» in my house. Incredibly, I found myself telling her that no, red chili powder of the kind they added was *not* a standard fixture in our house, and that we don’t consume Indian food regularly enough to stock such spices in our kitchen. I have traveled to over 30 countries and have asked for condiments or spices as part of my order but have never been challenged or refused this way. The lady could do well to not a) condescend her customers, and b) get too smug about people frequenting her establishment. Customers have choices and the food is not exactly gourmet fare, for us to put up with ridiculously petty behavior. Often times, small business owners from India tend to operate like this is India, with nary a thought to customer service or courtesy. Fact is, ethnic restaurants here are dime a dozen and restaurants can’t afford to antagonize or shame customers. Even if they are Indian! And finally, the owner/employees here could do well to not speak in Hindi while speaking about customers to their face. Sometimes you might encounter people that not only understand Hindi, but Tamil and English too!

Like sit-down street food, this place is great for mix-and-match appetizers to share with your friends and family. I have been here so many times. One of my favorite Indian places in the area. I love bringing friends and watching them try, or posting pictures to make my Cincinnati Indian friends envious. Here are some of my recommendations(see pictures too): Food: Dahi puri: mouth full of flavors and liquid Bhel puri: a nice dry spicy food that is so addicting Kashmiri naan: made with cranberries which gives it a tangy taste Samosa chat: crunchy and hearty with a spice level you choose Sweets: Gulab jamin: sweet and moist; choose to munch on a whole thing at once or savor every bite Jalebi: not as sweet or syrupy as I have had before but still good Pro tip: get the mix box and try many sweets. They may even give you a small taste of one if you ask! Next time: I always make sure I come on an empty stomach. Best to get your fill!

I had the dahi puri and special chat. Both tastes more or like the same since they both had almost the same ingredients. I found the chutneys to be thicker than regular. Can do better!

This place is great. Bar none, some of the best Indian food in Cincinnati. All veg also! I’ve been here a hand full of times and recommended it to friends, family of friends, and my own family alike. This place has desserts also! They are too sweet for my taste but most people really like them and I always point them out when I go here. If you like going to places where the food has the flavor of the place it came from come here. Go easy on your 1 – 10 spice scale though; here they mean business. I’m white and I’ve seen, I think, only one other white person here ever, so this place makes me feel a little out of place, but the food is SO good. I mean it is SOGOOD! You’ll like it. Some of the negatives: — Paper plates and plastic cutlery — The place looks a little run down and dirty.(Can’t take anyone here that you want to impress)

Brij Mohan has possibly one of the best lunch deals in the Sharonville/Blue Ash area– it’s a favorite amongst many of my coworkers. The menu offerings are all vegetarian but the lack of meat does not mean a lack of flavor! The lunch special gets you your choice of main served with a side of rice, side salad of pickled carrots and onion, and choice of naan/bhatura. The portion size is filling without being overwhelming(I’d be lying if I told you I never overate at an Indian buffet…) and the choice of mains covers a wide variety of tastes. Definitely worth a try should you find yourself in the area. And treat yourself to a mango lassi while you’re at it, you won’t regret it! *unless you’re lactose intolerant ;)

This is different from the Indian Restaurants that you’re used to. I think the best way to festive it is as a deli, just an Indian version. They do have those typical dishes you’ve come to expect with Indian restaurants: Tikka Masala, Saag, but if you go here, you should get some of the other items you’ve never heard of. Just about everything we ordered, was served cold(hence deli), and it was good. I will say though that they were really heavy in the yogurt in all the dishes(not my favorite thing), but there were others that didn’t have any yogurt at all.

Chaat is good but on the sweeter side. Pani puris are huge and hard to fit in the mouth. They should think about reducing the puri size and giving a Puri extra instead. Their North Indian entrees are excellent and lunch special is very fulfilling for $ 6. Deserts and Sweets are fresh and delicious just like in India, way better than the usual frozen ones. The lady at the counter is a little rude sometimes, especially when it’s crowded. I like their self service system which help keep the food cost down.

I love their chaats. It’s the best Indian chaats I have had in Ohio. They have great selection of Indian sweets as well and some good curries. I can’t afford to miss visiting brij Mohan every time when I’m in cincy. The weekend crowd can be overwhelming and chaos. I would recommend to takeout during weekend.

Delicious food. Best tasting Indian food. Whenever we visit Cincinnati we make sure to eat here. Staff is very unfriendly. They never welcome or greet you. They just dump food on the table without a word. So go there just for good tasting food. Don’t expect any greetings :)

Still by far the best vegetarian idian options in cincy. I have tried everything on the lunch special menu all of the breads most the desserts and a few of the regular menu items. All are amazing. I was skeptical about trying an all vegetarian place but I don’t miss the meat at all. The amazing curries and sauces make up for everything. This is a true hidden gem and would not of tried if it were not for Unilocal! The only negative thing would be the ice cream was actually not very good. It seemed freezer burnt with all of thr ice crystals and I would not recommend. But everything else makes up for this fault. If you have not tried and like idian I suggest you get here fast. The lunch special is great, 5.99 for a plate rice and bread. You will be full and if not sample one of the many desserts. They are very sweet but to be expected. …

Definitely one of the most authentic Indian restaurants in Cincinnati. You know it’s good when you don’t see any non-Indians in the restaurant. I was very skeptical since it’s vegetarian, but I did not miss the meat at all. The curry is fantastic and the nan is the best in the city! Their curries are very well balanced and they leave you with a smooth mouth-feel. The Nans are light, slightly crispy and not overly chewy. The dessert bar is awesome. So many varieties and all are very good. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves Indian food. Very reasonable prices, especially their lunch special. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

Tl;dr order and pay before sitting down. Spicy scale 1 – 6 all the food is delectable! In case you want to know how to pronounce some of these dishes, click here
I’ve also posted some photos of translations for common Indian words used on menus! Now onto the review: WOWTHISPLACEISAMAZING. You should know there are 2 main types of Indian cuisine. Northern and southern. Brij is northern, and what we see most of the time, saucy curries, flatbreads, and rice. Southern Indian cuisine is something I’ll educate you about on my future review of Udupi café(dosas, thalis, iddlis oh my!). About 80% of patrons were Indian, and the workers did not speak English without heavy accent, so I knew authentic was the name of the game here! Also it is 100% vegetarian, if not vegan. India has a large vegetarian population, and I can see why most patrons would only trust a restaurant like this to provide completely animal free food. But don’t let the vegetarian thing scare you! This food is not health food. It also isn’t any less flavorful or filling than a steak dinner! It was simply delicious. On a Thursday night, in the middle of nowhere of sharonville, this place was pretty hoppin! And for everything being served on paper plates the interior is much nicer than you’d expect! Full booths and nice chairs! You order at the counter first, pay, and then sit down and wait for your food to arrive at your table. We decided on the dahi poori(at other restaurants spelled puri) to start. I didn’t expect this dish to be cold, but it was delicious: Dahi= yogurt and poori=fried cracker shell 6 little shells were filled with cold potato, masala spice, raisins, and then doused in 3 sauces, yogurt(dahi), mint, and tamarind. The dish was gorgeous and SO flavorful! Next course: choley bhaturi Choley= chickpeas bhaturi= fry bread The hot chickpeas and curry sauce were so filling and flavorful! I loved tearing off pieces of steaming fry bread and forming little chickpea pockets out of them! The curry flavor was so rich I even used dahi sauce from our appetizer to cool it down and sweeten it a bit! Next dish: aloo saag Aloo= potato saag=spinach Rich curry flavor as well and so good! The rice on the side was fragrant and yummy. Malai Kofta: A rich buttery sauce with floating veggie dumplings(the kofta). YUMYUM Garlic Naan: not too garlic-y and perfectly cooked. Samosa Chaat: So Chaat just means snack. The samosa are all hot and deepfried hot pocket like entities that contain potato and peas. This samosa chaat is a semi smooshed samosa topped with tomatoes, mint chutney, and chickpeas with sauce. It was good! I also got it to go, so it might of been more soggy than if I got it dining in. The clerk told me that all Dahi Chaat(snacks with yogurt) are served cold, including the special chaat! Dessert: was my least favorite even though this is brij’s specialty! There’s still room to grow! I’ve just never eaten Indian dessert before. The cakes are doused in syrup(not to my liking) and most have fresh cheese(also not my cup of tea). I’ve tried the rasmalai– spongey cottage cheese served in a cold soup of sweetened cardamom flavored milk. The peda has, you guessed it, cheese, mixed with sugar and cardamom again. I wasn’t a huge fan of either. I’ll be looking forward to cakes next!

This is the best Indian restaurant i have ever eaten at. After reading all the Unilocal reviews I was skeptical of how great it would be. No meat is no problem here! Will definitely become a regular. Dahi Vada is fantastic!

Brij Mohan is my #3 Indian joint in Cincinnati. Located in a quiet strip mall in Sharonville, they produce excellent Indian sweets and pretty average curries. The setting is very quaint and no-frills. The service is friendly and always encouraging to try new things by providing recommendations. The curries are, as I said, average. That’s not why you go to Brij Mohan though. You go for the chaat. The Special Chaat and Papri Chaat are outstanding, and blend sweet, spicy, bitter, and a ton of flavors you have likely never encountered before if you’re not familiar with chaat. Beating Udupi Café to the north’s chaat by a mile, these guys corner the market on Indian sweets.
