Autry Learning Center

Our child was having problems with reading and getting his school assigments completed so the summer following his 8^th grade year we gave Autry a shot as she was close to home. She started with an assessment, some testing, and gave us about a 45 min consultation. She never offered to give us a written report but upon requesting it I saw that it was all general boiler-​plate. That was $ 500. She recommended sessions of «tutoring» which amounted to glorified baby sitting where our child worked on very easy puzzle type tests and some reading comp. work, but in genereal he came home feeling very insulted. After a few weeks, I pulled the plug and for our effort and expense we got nothing more specific than a warning that «he’s going to struggle in high school.»
Member Comments: The $ 900 was wasted turned out to be the least of the damage. Our son had un-​diagnosed ADD. Autry Learning Center advertises «specializing in ADD.» Because of the experience we had with Autry, we were thrown off the track for long enough to have our son miss the opportunity for the highest level of merit scholorships at private colleges that throw a ton of money at the highest GPA. He has maintained a 3.95 average and high SAT scores after the diagnosis, but Autry likely cost us $ 20k. Beyond the missed diagosis, there was no teacher or mentor qualities to be found anywhere in that building. My son now tutors weak students at his school in Math and Spanish. Autry basicly wrote him off as a bad student and prescribed what amounted to pricey detention.
