Hilltop High School

As I wander through these halls many memories come up. Some good some bad but all have shaped me to become the young independent woman I am now and currently they are doing a fine number on the boy.
There are good and bad experiences in any school, if you are a good kid and have strong family support I believe you can get through anything! It helps immensely when you have great teachers in your life.
This review isn’t to hash up my old memories as a student but to recognize Hilltop for employing some of the best role models in the boy’s life. I couldn’t have hand picked better teachers. Yes occasionally you get the «rough» one but doesn’t that teach your child how to deal with different personalities in the real world?
Mr. Hirakawa is my sons math teacher and also a great role model. He doesn’t sugar coat anything and makes sure the kids are learning while having fun! One of the best assets Hilltop high has is Mr. Hirakawa, they better hang on to him.
Roger Davis the boys volleyball coach is also one of Hilltop’s gems. Not only does he teach boys who have no clue how to play volleyball but he also helps them to work together and respect each other. He is an awesome coach!
Hilltop holds a special place in my heart and gets a great review because of how it’s been positively molding the boy into a nice young monster oh I meant man…

During my years at hilltop I’ve encountered a horrible quality of education, from being deprived of my schooling or being «locked out» of class for being 2 minutes late then held with other schoolmates for an excess of 30 minutes and given a Saturday school for being tardy. The thirty minutes I missed of class I could’ve used to study and pass my test that I had in my first period (PS: hilltop profits from every person who attends Saturday school or Saturday scholars for $ 35 a head, corruption at its best). I also would like to address my Spanish teacher, she was on paid leave for a semester with numerous numbers of substitutes not caring only about their own incentive which was the money and not caring about the quality of education of the students. Hilltop’s ASB has created a new policy which means you have to pay $ 20 for a ASB card that nobody wants to buy only because they want a nice locker that’s the only incentive (lockers are to be on a first come, first serve basis, as they were years before and years ago). This new policy leaves underprivileged kids manipulated by privileged kids that can afford the ASB card. Hilltop claims in their motto «the focus at hilltop is academics» but the freshman class of 2019 shows the opposite, with nearly 90% of all pupils at a failing grade leading to question the misuse of iPads altogether. Daughter has been at this school 3 years the teachers are super there was a situation at school one day where my child was being made fun of there was a security person mrs. Moreno who went up to my daughter and made her so happy all it took was someone to take their time with a few kind words and her self esteem is so high right now thank mrs moreno.

I am a former student with the and let me just say, This School is horrible!!! A bunch of fake lying faculty. Let me clarify that, There is maybe 7 or 8 Teachers and Instructional assistants that helped me out and i dearly loved. The female security guard at the school is ONE OF THE BEST campus securities i’ve ever met and is very understanding. The other hamster ball looking dude needs to stop thinking he’s Mr. Paul blart cop guy of the school. Mr. Salts is a teacher and a attendance assistant NOTHING MORE THAN THAT! In which he himself thinks he’s also Mr. Cop know it all of the school threatening kids and making them cry. Oh and another thing, If something goes on and he can’t get answers out of you he gets the school resource officer involved and FORCES you to talk to him with out letting your parents know that an officer will be contacting you. He also threatens students that they will be sent to court and have to pay a fine as well as be put on probation for having 2 damn tardies. Other than that i recommend another school for your son/​daughter. Your kid will hate life here. If it so happens that they get bullied the AP’s will do nothing about it and Mr. Salts will only harm them more (Verbally) and bully them himself (I’ve seen it happen my self). Another thing too with this school is academically they THINK their the best in the whole district, but that’s all BS! Go find another school where your child will feel safe cause this isn’t the place to keep them! I called this place the prison beyond prison! Sometimes i was even FORCED to ditch school cause if one of your 6 teachers is having a bad day oh hell… Expect it to be taken out on you! Same goes with faculty! Now like i previously said find another school for your child this IS NOT a safe environment. A lot of my teachers told me themselves they hate the school and wish they were transferred somewhere else due to the fact the Principle just walks around on his cell phone all day not giving a damn about the school. One beautiful sight your SON might enjoy seeing at school is the wonderful Ms. Mendez the goddess of the campus! Ahhhhh Let’s all give her a moment of complete wonderful silence: D I would rate the school a million stars if she was the only employee of campus lol! But back on a serious note, With all that being said, Think twice and don’t make the mistake i did by serving 4 years in this un-​barb wired go home everyday prison! Listen to the voice on the back of your head!

I’ll say it and I’m not about to hold anything back. This school is horrible when it comes to watching sporting events.
I find it completely ridiculous that in order to watch a softball game or even a basketball game to support your siblings, that you have to park downhill and then have a long climb up on some steep stairs to get where you want to get to just watch these games… and trust me, it’s not a close walk by any long shot.
I’m in pretty good shape… as a matter of fact, I put to shame a lot of people half my age, so the uphill climb really doesn’t bother me much.
What bothers me is the senior citizens that want to watch and support the kids that participate in these events, and the way Hilltop High is designed is JUST NOT RIGHT.
Another negative… they close all the bathrooms while these sporting events are going on. I’ve been to a lot of schools around the San Diego area and this is a first for me to see anything this ridiculous.
I for one will NEVER call a Janitor a «maintenance man» because lets face it… he’s a Janitor, and the Janitor I talked to lied through his teeth when he said that there was a restroom open… he even guaranteed it to me the restroom was open (which it wasn’t.) It wasn’t until I got one of the faculty members of this school to get the Janitor to finally open the door.
After opening the restroom, the Janitor then told me to close the door so that it can lock itself (Right there, I caught the Janitor in a big white lie… remember, he told me it was unlocked.)
If I could give Hilltop High ZERO STARS… I would.
Hilltop High School is what it is… a school that was terribly designed and a staff that lies through it’s teeth.

Haven’t had a bad thing to say about this high school. The school is not one of the newest schools in the Chula Vista area but maintenance and upkeep appear to be kept up very well. The education our child has received thus far has been favorable. I have no doubt that our teen (s) will be ready for college after their years at Hilltop High. The office staff and administration always have been friendly, helpful, and willing to assist whenever I’ve stopped in. The school’s athletic program is competitive with the other schools in the district. At least for the 2010 – 2011 school year, I would have to say the school is doing a very good job thus far…
