Kevin M.

Business Owner

Kevin graduated from Chamar Academy of Cosmetology and has been a fixture in the industry for 17 years. After honing his skills at two of the premier salons in the NRV, he decided to branch out, and along with Jim, he opened Meredith’s Salon in 2007. Kevin’s specialties include classic haircut and color design as well as make-​up application. He is the go-​to guy when it comes to looking your very best. Redken education has been the key to Kevin’s success from the beginning and continues to play an important role.

I came here once, I have a very short women’s cut. After I got home and inspected I realized the girl did not hard part my hair when she cut it causing the side that I sweep over had pieces that were an inch or two long that would stick up messing up my hair cut. She also squared my sideburns which I came in with pointed. She didn’t even ask me how I wanted them, I then had to ask her to try to fix it while I was still at the salon. She left the top very chunky and not blended into the sides at all. Needless to say I had to go somewhere else to have it fixed and that stylist made a comment about the girl giving me a mans haircut.

I just got my hair cut by Travis, and he did an amazing job with my straight, fine hair! I love that he really listened to what I was looking for, made suggestions, and even taught me how to style my new cut. Plus, everyone there was very welcoming and the price was reasonable.

I am not used to write reviews. Based on the good ratings, I decided to give this salon a try. Yeah, the environment is upscale and cozy and staff respect customers. However, they dont really put much effort to understand what they have been asked to do. I asked to color my hair dark brown but now I have a very dark dracula-​like hair. The coloring process took almost 2 hours and she repeatedly ran out of dye claiming she doesnt have an idea on my hair tickness. Yeah I have lots of hair but shouldnt you look at the volume of my hair first and then try to make the paste?
Also I showed a picture of my desired haircut but she gave me a different haircut.
Anyway I am not satisfied with the service. Such a waste of over 100 bucks.

I miss Meredith’s so much! I used to see Martha when I lived in Blacksburg a few years ago. I was constantly trying new new cuts/​colors and she would always nail it, from full on blonde highlights to ombré. Two years after moving and I have yet to find a stylist I like as much as Martha. Talented staff and reasonable prices — Meredith’s comes highly recommended!

They are very pretentious and tend to be up-​eddy with their customers. On several occasions I have witnessed staff talk about customers in a derogatory fashion. As a local I refuse to give this company my business due to there poor treatment of customers.

Am not sure, how this place such great reviews on Unilocal.
Am new to the area, so checked out on Unilocal and thought, oh wow great reviews and got an appointment. when i took the appointment, i specifically told that along with root touch up, I will need a wash and blow dry, styled specifically. and the lady told me. oh sure. and when i asked for the price for styling I was told its included with the color. that should have been my first strike.
when i got there for the appointment, the salon looked very chic and stylish. the stylist was late by 15 min. sure, busy day, no issues.
my stylist was Lisa and she seems to a beginner. she just dabbed the color. i see my color was not done properly once i got home. second, she just washed my hair and then just with a blow dryer. dried my hair half way though and left half of the hair wet and just the hair on the front she used a straightener and straitened and made it «look» like it was styled. waste of my money and time. after going home, i had to redo the whole styling myself. if it was all wet it would have been easy for me. since it was «half-​done:» it was such a pain. not going back there again. and wouldnt suggest to others.

Believe the hype. Kevin is a freaking wizard of color. He consistently has great solutions to the minor tweaks I request (don’t want a streaky ponytail? No problem! Want to tone down the bleachy parts from a previous stylist? DONE!) and I walk out of his salon looking like I was born gorgeous. Plus, Kevin is friendly and fun to hang out with while he works. An absolute top-​notch experience.

Amy Kinsley is the best! I first started seeing her several years ago while I was a Graduate Student at Virginia Tech. After graduating, I relocated to the DC area and started seeing stylists nearby. After going from salon to salon in the DC area, I had (unknowingly) damaged my hair.
Luckily, I was able to get an appointment with Amy during my recent visit to Virginia Tech. Let’s just say, it’s like your first love, you never forget. :) She knew right away what my hair went through these past few years. In one appointment, she got my hair looking great again! I already scheduled my next appointment. I love her! :)

I recently moved from NC, where I went to an incredible salon. I had heard great things about Meredith’s, but after two visits, I’ve been nothing but disappointed. My stylist seemed to listen to what I wanted, but had completed my shampoo, cut and dry in less than 20 minutes. She didn’t dry it all the way, fluffed it up in a way that was completely unnatural (and unattractive) and didn’t ask my opinion. She also did not show me the back or sides to see if I was happy with the cut. When I got home and took the «fluff» out of it, down to a normal style, I realized she did not cut it well and there are uneven pieces. Additionally, it wasn’t even exactly what I was hoping for. I will not be making a return visit, nor would I recommend this salon to others.

I went to Meredith’s Salon for my wedding day hair and nails. I loved Martha, who did my hair, but was extremely dissatisfied with Abbie who did my nails.
I decided to go to this salon because they had the best rep in the area. When I get my nails done I always find the same standards, acrylic nails and shellac nail polish. I’ve always had long natural nails and people always compliment them, I worked very hard to keep them for my wedding day but alas, two broke the week of my wedding. I showed up at Meredith’s expecting to get a couple acrylic nails and redo the shellac on my nails.
When I told Abbie I needed her to repair the two broken ones she told me she wouldn’t do fake nails and that she was all natural. As soon as she told me I burst into tears. It was 4 hours before my wedding and my nails were going to be broken. While I respect that she decided to go all natural, I wasn’t told when I made the appointment. After getting over the initial shock she asked if I had gel polish on and seeing my french manicure asked if I wanted a redo of the same thing. I told her yes. Everything else went OK, she left polish on the skin under my nails but I was able to scrape it off after I left, there were a couple spots where polish was hanging off the edge, but I was less bothered by that than by my ugly broken nails. Getting up to leave my mother in law asked if it was gel polish and I said yes but looked to Abbie to confirm when she told me NO! I couldn’t believe it! I was furious! I left it at that thinking maybe that was part of her all natural thing but when I got home and looked at the website it had her there with her picture bragging about how she was the first in the NRV to do shellac polish. Needless to say I think the salon needs a new nail technician, with the level of work there hair stylists are able to do I am shocked they have such a limited technician.

I am very nervous about who does my hair — and when I moved to the NRV I had to find another salon and stylist I could trust. Candice at Meredith’s Salon was that person! She was wonderful in helping me grow out a pixie cut to what is now shoulder length hair, which is a very difficult feat to accomplish gracefully.
The salon front also has a great selection of not only quality hair products, but also BareMinerals makeup.

It took me FIVE YEARS to find the right stylist in the New River Valley, and I am SO glad I finally found Meredith’s! I highly recommend Kathleen. She is a joy to work with and always gets my cut and color just right. Kathleen is very knowledgeable about all things hair and always shares tips and tricks to plump up my thin, volume-​less hair.
Meredith’s Salon itself is very welcoming and clean with an incredibly friendly, knowledgeable staff (and with great prices also!)

I love Meredith’s Salon. I have moved to California, and I miss it terribly. The key to my love is Amy Kinsley. She is hands-​down the best stylist I have ever met. She knew my hair like the back of her hand — what would work and what wouldn’t. She’s great at working to create a specific look based on a picture and at helping you come up with a style on your own. She did updos for me on several occasions as well, and they were all fantastic. In addition to all of this, she has a lovely outgoing personality. I always look forward to chatting with her during my appointment. I loved her work so much that while I was at college hours away, I waited to get my hair cut until I could get back to Christiansburg. I’m too far away to use this strategy anymore, but I sure wish I still could. Amy is awesome, and Meredith’s Salon is THE place for hair in the New River Valley.
