Fresh n’ Lean

Food is decent and honestly… what do you expect from a vegan service?! It’s gonna be a little mushy sometimes. I enjoyed about ⁴⁄₅ of their meals which is pretty good considering they do an ala carte service that allows you to pick and choose specific meals. The food is decent but their customer service is better. This place hooked me up when I said I was going out of town. They allowed me to use my credit for a different week and were willing to refund my money if I didn’t want to continue the service too. I think that’s pretty awesome. This place makes going vegan easy! It’s a worth a try.

I am not a picky eater, but this food is absolutely disgusting. Its all just bland, awful tasting mush. I tried 3 out of the 10 meals they sent me and I’m throwing out the rest. Do not waste your money on this!!!

I didn’t realize they were going to be shipping the premade food from California to Hawaii. I called and opted out a week prior. They had already charged my account and a girl named Chantal said she would refund my account. A week later I still have no refund. That’s bad customer service. They were quick to take my money, but they are dragging their selves in refunding me. I would NOT recommend this company. Bad service. Minus Stars!

It took a few days just for Chantal just to get the approval from her boss to give the refund as her e-​mail stated, so your records are wrong as to me being refunded in two days. It took several e-​mails, follow-​ups and me calling her to tell her I did not get the refund and she said she wasn’t sure why, but then about a week or so later it finally showed in my account, so yes thank you for the refund, but the timeliness was less than stellar.

I loved the sun dried tomato and artichoke pasta — the best I healthy food I have EVER had.
Some of the bean dishes are a little bland, but I season them because I’m not totally incompetent, plus I realize that some folks can’t have extra salt in their diets so I applaud fresh n’ lean for keeping the palate approachable to all. But if they would add some ingredients with a little zest to their bean dishes I think it would help a lot.

This is another rip off misleading membership. The food took eight days to be shipped and two days to arrive. Quality was bad no flavor and before I knew it they shipped me again and billed me. It is a membership order once and the fine print says they will ship every week.

I’m on my 2^nd week of 4 and I have to say wow — super great. I initially signed up before I actually read Unilocal reviews and I was super nervous because of the reviews and I had already paid. I love it — I’ve had 10 total meals in my first week and enjoyed them all. There were 2 that I was indifferent about but still amazing. My second week arrived yesterday and I love how it’s a different menu and always something new and exciting. Highly recommend if you are looking for quality «clean» food. Zero complaints!
One more thing I was afraid I’d feel like was on a diet (I don’t believe in diets) and I don’t. The food is so filling my body is nourished and not craving anything funky (processed foods, etc.) extremely happy with the quality, pricing, and ease of this service!

I originally had trouble getting a hold of them to suspend my order and after repeated calls and messages my card was still charged. However after 24 hours I was contacted by them and they were professional and apologetic for the lapse in communication.

Sooooo disappointed! I was REALLY looking forward to a vegan meal delivery service…
Let me start off with my reason for looking into a food delivery service. My dad has diabetes, and has terrible eating habits (hence, the diabetes). When I can drive 4 hours to see him, I cook for him. I found this site through google, and the descriptions and pictures look delicious! I was excited! I decided to get him this service for the month of March since it’s his birthday month. I ordered his plan, and then I decided to try a couple of a la carte dishes.
My a la carte order came first. My boyfriend and I tried the dishes… man, what a disappointment! Everything was bland and mushy. I still really wanted to like it so I kept trying everything… then we tried the wild rice dish. My boyfriend said the rice was hard. He kept trying to bite down on this one piece of rice, until he gave up & spit it out. It wasn’t rice. It was a small black pebble! How on earth did that get in there?!? We immediately lost all hope for this company and threw the remaining not so appealing dishes out.
My dad’s order was delivered a day later. Obviously there was nothing I could do about that order, but I knew I needed to cancel the automatic enrollment they force on their customers. I called them and left a message (during their business hours). After not hearing from them, I emailed them as well. On their website they say that if you do not cancel before noon on Monday, your order for that week automatically processes. So I was determined to get a hold of them before noon on Monday. I kept calling to no response. Today is Monday… I called continuously and then left another voicemail for them around 10:00am simply asking for a call back. At 11:45am, I had to call my bank to cancel my credit card do to this unprofessional company. It is now 5pm on Monday, and I have still never received a single call back from Fresh ‘N Lean.

I have been plant-​based for 6 years now. And, I was curious about various delivery services. But, trying Fresh ‘n Lean was a dear mistake. Beware!
In summary, all the cons:
–delivered to wrong house
–food unappealing
–very small portion sizes
–tasteless and mushy
–beware of them slyly getting you to sign up for recurring meal plan and not allowing you to easily cancel
To give it a fair try, I ordered the 5-​day plan, with three meals a day. First of all, the box was delivered to the wrong address. After I sorted that out by grabbing it from my neighbor, the meals had come in a large foam container with a handful of ice packs. Thankfully, they were still cold. But I noticed that all the meals were shipped in various orientations (upside down, vertical, sideways, etc). This left the food in each container crammed to one side. It was less than appealing. Furthermore, I noticed that lunch and dinner meals were wrapped together. Although it was possible to separate them, this was an annoying step that made it harder for me to choose whatever meal I wanted to eat.
It gets worse. The first day, I tried the chia pudding. It slopped around in the container. Not appealing. But, it was quite unappetizing. From there I tried a pasta dish. The noodles were super mushy and tasteless. And I also tried a quinoa and vegetable dish. I normally don’t eat oil since I follow a whole-​food, plant-​based, low-​fat diet. And all these dishes had oil and still were completely tasteless!
Let me tell you, if I didn’t have other family members to help out eating the food, I wouldn’t have made it through the week. The food was terrible with only one edible dish in the batch, the white bean and kale. The chili had under-​cooked and hard beans. The breakfast loaf and breakfast muffins were dry, chalky, and disgusting. Breakfasts as a whole were very sweet and not filling at all. All the entrees were mushy. Furthermore, almost every single lunch and dinner featured giant slices of carrots. Additionally, I am a small person with a small appetite. And even after forcing myself to finish these dishes, I found that they weren’t enough. The containers are very shallow and the servings really are inaccurate.
And here’s the KICKER!
Being Friday, I was relieved to only have a single dish left to eat. I was already looking forward to never eating a Fresh n Lean meal again. Then, I opened my email. I had received a notice from FEDEX saying that ANOTHER week of meals was on it’s way! Sneaky. They had automatically signed me up to receive another set of meals– which wasn’t very apparent in my order and is only listed as the last item in their FAQ. They personally send no emails in regard to the order, just the one from fedex.
And of course, to cancel my order I have to call. I’ve called them twice. And despite the fact that I am calling during business hours, no one picks up. I think they know that everyone is probably trying to cancel their orders today. The only way they can get more money is by tricking people into getting two orders– since they know their food sure won’t bring any repeat customers.

I am taking the time to write this Unilocal review hoping someone reads this before purchase. I recently had surgery and at the time had limited mobility. I live on the third floor. As an extremely thoughtful gesture I was gifted fresh and lean. First of all the point was I couldn’t move. The box was dropped on the first floor. Luckily a friendly neighbor knowing my situation brought it up. It was heavy and clearly marked with the third floor. No note accompanied this package. Unlike other reviews the calorie labeling was marked. I called the company repeatedly because I wanted to discuss the delivery. The whole point was I was on bed rest and needed the delivery to the door. The representative told me that there was an open credit card. First of all the food was terrible. At the time I hadn’t tried the food yet. Nothing local or fresh about it. I would much rather eat $ 2.00 frozen food from the supermarket. The customer service department was hard to get in touch with and told me I would be receiving deliveries. So instead of being gracious and just accepting the gift I had to contact the gift giver and she said it was only lunches for a week. How embarrassing, and completely in conflict with what customer service said. If I could I would give a negative star.

Been busy lately n wanted to try food delivery with something healthy and non-​meat. I really wanted to like this but the food tastes bland and is all mush. Pasta — mushy. Quinoa — mushy. Red rice — mushy. Plus side, you don’t need teeth to eat it. Just spoon it and swallow. I still have 5 premade meals to eat. Soooo not looking forward to it so I’ll just wait until I’m super hungry.
I love that it’s vegan, but I know that there’s plenty of vegan meals that taste really good. Maybe it’s not possible to have prepackaged yummy vegan meals.
Also, there is a lot of packaging to keep it fresh, which is understandable, but not so good for the environment.
No more food delivery, I’ll just get my lazy butt to the grocery store more…

I would give negative stars if I could. Food is absolutely disgusting and I am not a picky eater. I ate one and the rest of the meals became dog food. Actually some of the meals my dogs actually rejected… now that’s scary. Everything is mushed together and beige and smells bad. The worst part is the false advertising. The website says they provide 1555 calories per day which is about 500 calories per day but all of my meals were 350 calories! That’s not sustainable or healthy for an adult! The food doesn’t look at all like the pictures on the website. I have a picture of the split pea soup that looks like vomit hopefully I can upload it.

I gave this two stars because I like the customer service and if they can accommodate you they certainly will. However, there are too many problems that are hard to ignore.

–Bland
–Repetitive
–Looks extremely unappetizing (I hate to say this but it looks like dog food)
–Average taste (not too bad that you’d spit it out and not too good that you crave more)
–Big portions (most vegan meal deliveries send half the portion of fresh –n– lean but they send a relatively big portion. Sometimes I could not finish the whole thing.
–After 2 – 3 weeks of being on this food, you are not hungry but definitely dissatisfied and desperately looking for a piece of fried chicken!
Also they are a little fast and loose with the credit card. When I decided to cancel, I sent two emails to two supervisors asking them well a head of time for the new shipment to cancel. Then since I didn’t receive a reply on either emails, I called and spoke to a customer services representative and asked her to make sure I’m not charged for the new week and I’m canceling my delivery subscription. Guess what!!! I was charged and had to contact them repeatedly till they gave me a refund. This is not ok, I like to know that if I’m giving my credit card information to a business, they are worthy of my trust.

I placed an order last week for the first time after contemplating other vegan meal services and I was pleasantly surprised. The food arrived fresh, chilled and tasted good. Out of the 6 meals I ordered a la carte there was only one I didn’t like. As another reviewer said, I wish their were more veggies in the meals.
Also, their customer service is excellent! I didn’t receive an item in my order, and it was overnighted to me immediately.
I’ll definitely place an order again. No complaints at all!

Quality ingredients, healthy food, diverse flavors, coveniently packaged, and reasonably priced.
As a previous reviewer noted, the food does arrive looking a little mashed together. It doesn’t affect the taste whatsoever and is easily fixed with some fresh parsley as garnish. They try their best to incorporate a variety of favors into each weekly menu so that it stays interesting from one meal to the next customer service has been very responsive so far and we haven’t had any problems making food preference or schedule changes.

Customer Service: The person I spoke to on the phone was nice and helpful especially since I was ordering ala carte. I’m a very picky eater and I had questions. I ordered on a Friday afternoon so I received my order on Tuesday, no biggie.
Delivery: I got double order of one item and was missing another item. I called and got that straightened out. It didn’t matter too much to me since the missing item wasn’t for me but for my hubby and the double item was mine, lol. I didn’t seem to have as much trouble with customer service as other reviewers but that might be because I didn’t order a meal plan.
Food: The food does NOT look exactly like the picture. In fact, the food looked a bit smashed together but it tasted good and was filling. There wasn’t enough veggies in any of the meals, mostly rice/​quinoa/​pasta which I like but not what the doctor wanted for me. I supplemented that with a small side salad or fruits. The portion looked small but is actually quite hearty, though it did take me a few days to adjust to not snacking in between meals.
Overall: Good, hearty, tasty meals that don’t look so great and could use more veggies in them.

I’ve ordered these meals on and off for quite a number of weeks and highly recommend the service. The meals are gluten-​free, vegan and organic. The prices are very reasonable considering the variety and quality of ingredients and they are delivered right to my front door. I would not have time to make this variety and complexity of meals. They recently added more flexible options and include nutrition facts on the packages, as well.

Ordering meals under the Thrive brand. I think the meals are fantastic. A bit on the low calorie side for my needs, but the food is very satisfying. I think everything has tasted great. I love that its freshly prepared and vacuum wrapped. I do other food delivery also and while their meals are tasty, they are not packaged to travel. Thanks to Thrive I have something healthy to put in the microwave at work.

I’ve just hit a point where I needed to write about this service. I signed up for a few months last year. The deliveries were great and on time and the food was packaged nicely. I had a couple of issues with them charging my card twice in one week and even when i cancelled service, they still charge my card. The service, (Tony Horton Kitchen) which is what i ordered this service under, IS Fresh N Lean, that actually makes the food, does the billing and ships it.
I decided to order another week of food a couple of weeks ago and told them not to charge my card after that order. Which i got a confirmation note via email. Monday rolls around and they charged my card for yet, another week. I emailed them concerning this and no response. Put some calls in and they answered the phone without stating the company name, but just a «hello» which was odd, but anyway.
The person i spoke to said they would reimburse. 2 days go by and nothing. Called again, said he would get me a «transaction» number at end of day on refund. Never happened. Left message next day, nothing. 3 emails, no response.
Had to call my bank and they are opening an investigation.
Stay clear of this place. This was extremely disappointing experience.

I was completely disappointed with this company. I told them my food allergies before my meals were shipped and was told that they could accommodate me. 10 out of the 15 meals I received that week were inedible due to them containing food I told them I was allergic to. To top it off the food was poorly prepared. The ground beef and turkey were crumbled so small I had to use a spoon to eat it. The chicken was so over cooked that it snapped in half when I tried to pick it up with my fork. 90% of the meals I received were beans and maybe a piece of carrot or two.
I’ve tried to cancel my account 3 times but they keep charging me. No one is returning my calls or emails. I’m going to my bank now to dispute all the charges.
The only reason I gave any stars to this company is because the food was packaged nicely and arrived in time.
