My son’s car got towed here on a Sunday afternoon at 2:30. On Monday afternoon at 12:30, we arrived to retrieve the car. We were told the fees were $ 275 which included $ 185 for the towing fee from downtown Chico and $ 45 a day, which they were charging us two days for. I asked Roby, the attendant who was helping us, why we were being charged for two days of storage when the car had been there less than 24 hours. Roby told us that we had been there two days: Sunday and Monday. He called his manager who said that the fee was correct but she would help us out by dropping one day of storage fees. I agreed, then told Roby that they were in violation of State law 3068.1(a) under the civil code for assessing two days of storage. He denied that we were going to be charged that amount. He lied flat out to my face. We tried to pay the fee of $ 230 and were informed that it was a cash only business. No checks, no credit cards, no ATM cards. When I had called them prior to going to get the car and told them we were coming to get the car, there was no mention of the cash policy. Frustrating. But charging for two days when the car has been in storage less than 24 hours is illegal. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau.
