Pop’s Wood-Fired Pizza

Pizza is great, but just used the bathroom after an employee… he peed all over the seat and didn’t flush. Can’t help but think he didn’t wash his hands either.

Easily best in Chico, perfect crust and interesting toppings. All quality, the bathrooms are super clean to.

I visited Pop’s today for the first time, and I could not be more pleased! The owner was so gracious and attentive (but not helicopter-​y), and really went out of her way to make my party feel welcome! We got slices of pizza: the crust was perfect, the seasoning was spot on, the price was more than reasonable, and the whole experience was thoroughly enjoyed by all! I am so pleased that this area of Chico has a wonderful neighborhood pizza place with delicious and varied fare, a great atmosphere, and a phenomenal staff! Will I be back? Oh yeah! And, I will continue to bring my friends!

No complaints. The food was hot and out fast, and delicious. Service was great, my boyfriend and I enjoyed a 12″ pizza, and 2 drinks for under $ 30. It was fun to watch the pizza be cooked in the wood oven, we’ll be back!

Great food, great prices! (and they say they are lowering their prices even more next week.) Super friendly staff. If you have not tried this pizza joint, I highly recommend it!

this pizza is delicious, I just had it for the first time. My boyfriend brought one home for lunch he kept telling me it was the best pizza in Chico, I thought he was exaggerating until i tried it. Really you must try it!

Great pizza. Great atmosphere. This place is awesome, very creative menu. This is not your average pizza place. The chickalo is my favorite, perfect for those who like to spice things up. Highly recommended!

I’ve had most of the menu and loved it all! Service is good. Poppy salad is awesome. And I love the lunch combos.

Amazing ‘za! I love the specialty pizzas, they are so unique and they have so many with fresh veggies. I found my new favorite local pizza joint.

I really thought pizza was just pizza, however this wood oven makes it taste much much better than any other pizza place I’ve tried. The woman at the register made me feel like I was invited into her house when I arrived. Will be a frequent visitor

Employees were friendly, eager to please and we had quick service. They had customers flowing in and out and so the place was hopping.
We ordered a 18″ — half Ike’s BBQ Luau and ½ Roasted Veggies pizza. It arrived within 15 minutes of our order. Although «ok» neither side was fantastic and both were pretty bland.
What surprised me is that I’ve had plenty of wood fired pizzas and this one unlike most wood fired pizzas tasted just ordinary … like most basic pizza joints that use regular pizza ovens. Wood fired pizza usually has that crispness, cheese and ingredients being melted by very high heat and this pizza didn’t have that.
We also split the Pop’s House Green salad which was larger than expected and was plenty for 2 people. It had romaine lettuce (a few leaves had some dark spots) and mixed greens, chopped (cubed) carrots, onions and celery and it was all tossed with a nice balsamic vinaigrette with crumbled blue cheese on the side.
The small place has 4 tv’s hanging on the wall with sports going. Music in the background. The ambiance isn’t bad as well as not exceptional.
We may be back to try their Caprese Eggplant sandwich or the other 2 sandwiches (all come with shoe string potatoes) as they sounded good but most likely we won’t be back to give it another try for their pizza as none of the other pizzas that we saw being served seemed to have experienced a very high wood fired oven.

Oh, I so hate to do this because the food here is REALLY good! The salads are fresh and the pizza is amazing! However, after today I won’t be back. My husband and I went here for lunch this afternoon. While there, I observed the girl at the cash register operating the register, taking money and making change, handling credit cards, bussing and wiping down the tables, then stepping into the kitchen and handling the food with her BARE HANDS immediately afterward. She did not stop to wash her hands thoroughly or even bother with a little squirt of hand sanitizer, nor did she wear gloves. I’m not sure if this is against health-​department regulations but it’s nasty! I was grossed out and left my lunch half-​finished.
Although the restaurant appears clean and the food is well-​prepared, the lack of basic hygiene exhibited by this employee is alarming. Management, talk to your people about basic sanitation practices — and common decency — when handling food. She’s going to make somebody sick!
Also, you might want to figure out why it takes 3 people over half an hour to deliver a slice of pizza and a salad in a place with a total of 4 customers.

Consistently awesome pizza. We tried this place on a whim since it was the closest non-​chain to our house. We haven’t gone to another place since. We love the wood-​fired taste in the crust. I love that the crust isn’t too thin or thick. We typically get a pepperoni, and I like that their pepperoni slices are large but thin. Pizza is never too greasy.
We know there are supposedly better places downtown, but with great pizza at close proximity, we probably won’t bother.

A really good place for lunch. I got the pizza and salad combo and it was delicious, the pizza taste like a home made pizza and the salad was good and fresh. I feel very satisfied

Looked forward to trying this place. I ordered using the menu from my phone, choosing their combo pizza. PIZZA: Quality ingredients. Good crust but would choose crispy next time. The sauce isn’t very zesty. We don’t like bell peppers and wanted to substitute for mushrooms.
SERVICE: Nothing said there would be an extra charge or that substitutions were not allowed. Made it clear to the girl, this was to be instead of… Not sure if this is a big city approach, but there was an extra topping charge! They removed the extra fee only after I pointed it out. Not cool. Average good mom/​pop pizza joint.

Pop’s is one of the best pizzarias in Chico (in my opinion)! My favorite is the Chickalo, but I like to add bacon (because everything is better with bacon). I haven’t been brave enough to try the Chicken and Waffle pizza. It’s just not my thing. I LOOOVVVEE the Buffalo Broccoli! It’s basically broccoli battered and deep fried just like a hot wing! And they serve it with a side of buffalo sauce, ranch, and blue cheese crumbles. I’m not quite sure how you’re supposed to dip it in the blue cheese crumbles. I usually just add them to my Chickalo.
The location is a little hard to find. They did a great job with the signage on Forest Ave, but it’s hidden in the back of the Staples and Old Navy shopping center by Sleep Train. The good news is… you can get it delivered!!!

My husband and I tried this place out and holy cow. So dang good!
Ambiance is perfect, they had tvs on every wall with any game you would want to watch, Sierra Nevada on tap and a great menu to choose from.
We had the Chickalo (buffalo chicken with Bleu cheese) GET THIS! I had my doubts before ordering but I’ve been dreaming about it ever since.
Crust was thin, and perfectly crispy with plenty of bleu cheese. While we waited for pizza we tried their french fries which were also perfectly crispy.
Other people with un-​happy reviews must just be unhappy people because this place rocks!

When we were in line some folks eating their pizza told us how incredible the chicken & waffle pizza was. I had originally laughed when I saw it on the menu, and NEVER would have ordered it. I got it because those people were raving — Heck Yes! You have to get it. Have to, have to. I got my 12″ pizza ½ chicken and waffle, ½ spicy Hawaiian. The Hawaiian was just your normal deliciousness, but the pairing of the two was fun, yummy and hit the spot!

Loved Pop’s Pizza when they were doing the food truck/​oven. I don’t know what went wrong, but their recipes just didn’t translate well to a brick and mortar store. Maybe size does matter, as in smaller pizzas cook up to goodness better in the brick oven?
Beyond the poor quality, and I cannot say this enough, skip the Ambrosia pizza that is NOT tzatziki folks! The service was slow and servers did not seem happy. Not every day can be a great day for servers but no smiles says something doesn’t it?
Back it up, and go back to what worked well.
