Oxford Suites Chico

Pleasantly surprised! My usual hotel was booked solid, found this online and didn’t know what to expect.
I have to say– they do a top notch job.
Room was clean, roomy and well appointed. Breakfast rivals what you’d find at a nice resort (except I’m not sure if you can customize like an inlet or anything– but quality choices).
Evening reception a nice bonus.
You’ll be happy with the choice.

My mother booked three rooms for our family since we were staying here for a wedding. My husband and I got to the hotel after a 3 hour drive at 3:15 and checked into the hotel to then wait an hour to get our room. They never stated that 3:00 is the start check in time and it goes till 5:30. Later we were told it took longer because we had an executive suite not a standard room. The younger adults checking us in were not sympathetic and first told us that it would take 10 minutes. The older gentleman that was another front desk clerk spoke with us and apologized and was very nice. The room we had was not up to date. The bathroom was super tiny. The only plus was there was a fridge and microwave. They really need to update the hotel. Also I sadly smelt marijuana on the floor. Lastly, my parents room was across from the elevator which stunk like oil. I would never come here again.

I’m always so pleased with the service and facilities when I stay here. Everyone is very professional looking and terribly polite. It is clean and cool in the rooms even when it’s 103°F outside. It’s the only hotel for me in Chico when we visit!
I’d like to mention specifically that Nicholas was particularly helpful this trip. We wanted to bring our puppy on this trip and weren’t sure of procedure. He reassured us that it was fine and she loved her visit too!

In looking at hotel reviews for Chico, CA, my spouse and I decided to stay here. We were looking for a hotel with shuttle service and also with some available perks. We landed here and have no regrets.
The room we stayed in (4^th floor) was an ADA accessible room, although it was not requested. The room was very clean but the bathroom was a bit dated and needed and upgrade. The shower head needed replacement and their placement of the soap /​conditioner /​shampoo dispenser in the shower made a portion of the side shower handicapped bar unusable when standing.
The television was flat screen with several channels but the resolution left a bit to be desired. The room had a small fridge and microwave so it worked well for storing food and warming desired items up. We ran the air conditioner and it kept the room cool and comfortable.
Our room was quiet and we did not hear much from outside even though the hotel is near the freeway and a busy street. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the shuttle was quick to leave and pick us up. Both the drivers were very nice and shared some information about the local are with us.
Nice perks were vouchers (if you will) for free breakfast and also for a few drinks and finger food in the evening. Breakfast was just above average but the restaurant was unable to really keep up with the demand during peak visits (like when first opening). They ran out of cups and my orange juice had more water than concentrate. Staff were informed and attended to those items rather quickly.
There was much more available that we did not use (weight room, pool, etc) but it’s great location being close to restaurant and stores worked wonderfully. We would certainly return and our visit was pleasurable and the price for our stay was about reasonable for the two nights we stayed. Even though it’s not next door to the airport, it’s certainly worth the 10 minute or so drive.

Absolutely one of the best hotel stays I have ever had. Every single staff member was incredible and the customer service was spot on. This is where we will be staying when we visit Chico from now on. It’s not the most luxurious hotel I’ve ever stayed in, but it is very comfortable and clean and the staff was incredible. Well done Oxford Suits.
Note: the hot tub seems to need some work, but that’s not enough to take away a single star as everything else was fantastic.

The Assistant General Manager, Nicole Clever, is amazing. She was so very helpful with everything I needed for my crew of 15 that was staying at the hotel. Such a commitment to great customer service is to be commended. Most hotels are fine, with some a lot more than others. Once in a long moon you encounter a place, or should I say, an individual, that takes it upon himself to make your stay nothing short of brilliant. That is exactly what transpired in our 6 days, 5 nights stay at the Oxford Suites in Chico, CA. First of all, the property is in such an ideal location that made all affairs that brought us to Chico, a breeze. Most restaurants, big stores, freeways, or should I just say, freeway? at the closest proximity. Upon arriving, and being very hungry, we went across the street to the IHop to have a late lunch. While the two lovely traveling companions finished their meal, and to make their lives a little easier, I moved our vehicle from the IHop parking lot, to the Oxford Suites, and proceeded to check our party in.
The front desk was where I first, and then the rest of the group of 3, met Mr. Chris Johnson, Hotel Representative Extraordinaire, no exaggeration on this assessment.
He signed me in, gave all pertinent information required to get the maximum enjoyment of our stay, and from that moment until we left, he always seemed to be around to make our stay double special. Personnel of this caliber is very hard to find, for most might initially go out of their way to be specially nice, but Mr. Johnson had nice in his DNA, a truly caring, helpful, and accommodating guest relations beacon of light. Always a friendly smile, fast on his feet, ready to go the extra mile if and whenever approached, to the point that we would talk about how nice of a person he was just about every time we finished our busy day.
The property is in prime location, as I already pointed out, and this must be noted: since we were going to be at the local hospital visiting a patient, they offered a nicer rate, not to say that others will not be able to find good rates, for I checked before I called, and there were nice rates. The room we had was on the first floor, and close to the exit door, because of the kind manipulation of Nicolet? who took our reservations, and once I mentioned Big Mama was traveling with us, she made every effort to provide us with the ease of the accommodation. Beds were nice, sheets were clean, bathroom had all the amenities and then more. In our room we had 2 Queen size beds, a sofa area with a perfectly good desk for internet activities, if so desired, microwave, small refrigerator, and plenty of attention to detail to make, even demanding guests like ourselves, very satisfied. Yes, there were here and there, one or two small issues that were promptly attended to when brought up to the front desk attention.
Big Breakfast greeted all who found it in their hearts to wake up during service hours. Just about anything our little hearts, and big appetites desired. Plenty of room, plenty of different things to eat, certainly a deal good enough to skip lunch if so desired, and concentrate on dinner later on. Also they have like a gathering around 5PM till 8PM, where a light fare, plus spirits such as wine and beer, plus bottles of water, are gladly dispensed to those who like to gather, or even meet total fellow travelers.
I am already writing a book, but I will say this one last time: Mr. Chris Johnson specially, made every effort to go out of his busy day, to attend to any particular whim, requests, necessities, etc., with the friendliest smile, and the ultimate class exhibited in all his actions. I even asked him one time, if he was upper management, to which he smiled, but not condescendingly, and said he prefer working the front. I been in many places around this beautiful world of ours, and his treatment elevated the property, whatever some shortcoming could have been, to a stellar stay. 5 Stars!

Welllll our stay was ok (probably a 2.5 is generous) but I’m glad I brought earplugs! There were loud people talking outside & the walls must be pretty thin because we could hear televisions on both sides & conversations too :-/​My daughter liked the shampoo so that was a plus. The breakfast was pretty good, so that helped my rating quite a bit. The blonde girl who checked us in that is graduating from Chico this year gets 5 stars. Very friendly & helpful!

The staff and management were fantastic. They were curious to my dogs and allowed me to have a late check out. The house keeping was AMAZING! Don’t get rid of them they made the trip for me. It was nice to have a hand full of restaurants near by to select from. Their breakfast buffet was very good. Great waffles.

If you are in Chico, you must stay here. So many little touches that make this place special. Rooms are clean and looks like recently upgraded. I will definitely be back.

Awesome! Nice hotel with old school charm. Rooms are clean and staff is very friendly. We truly enjoyed our stay and they were very welcoming to our 120 lb mastiff.

Our family has been staying here for almost a week and the staff is super friendly, accommodating and helpful. Clean rooms. The breakfast is included and is a full meal as well as the cocktail hour happy hour. Wonderful Chef Brian as well. Thank you for making our thanksgiving week so very comfortable.

If you enjoy staying with loud college kids and tweekers in a partially renovated «motel» with an inoperable spa and no water pressure, this is the place for you. I found a pubic hair in my coffee cup. Outstanding.

I did not like the rooms, but other facilities are good such as the lobby area, pool, gym and hot tub. I would rather stay at the Marriott.

WORST VISIT YET. We have stayed here numerous times. Our daughter goes to Chico State.
This time, by far, was the worst. They are over hauling the hotel, so there is noise. They DON’T do the happy hour on Sunday’s, that sucks, we were never told that. We got a smoking room (we don’t smoke) and it STUNK so they moved us to another room. The bed was horrible and the floor was wet. So they moved us again. The third room was ok at best. We went to breakfast and the chef was missing, so the bus person made our omelets. She never washed her hands or put gloves on. Better yet, when the cook came back he didn’t wash his hands or put gloves on. Solo gross! The only nice thing to say is the front desk staff. They were nice. Their biggest problem is housekeeping and food.

This was by far the worst hotel stay ever! My husband and I were here in Chico for a wedding we attended. This was the hotel of choice that had a block of rooms set aside at a special rate for out of town guests. Just FYI, back at home we have 2 boys so my hubby and I were excited for our mini get away and we were hopeful for a good nights rest (no middle of the night interrupted sleep by a 4 year old who has to go potty) ;-)
The room itself is nothing to write home about. More like one or two steps up from a Motel 6. The rooms could use a major facelift and/​or redecorating! My biggest concerns were the following:
1) the mattress (if you can call it that) feels more like sleeping on a box spring. Verrrrry uncomfortable. The pillows are a true square shape that are about 5 inches high (reminded me of a block) like who’s neck can tolerate that all night and wake up w/​out a kink!!!
2) at approximately 12:30am I was awaken because it was hot as a witch in hell in our room. Went over to the bulky wall A/​C unit to decrease the degree (from 68 to 60) in hopes that would make the A/​C kick on… but no it didn’t. I made sure I wasn’t losing it before I called the front desk. I even laid back down for a few minutes before calling the front desk thinking «hopefully it would kick on in a minute». Still nothing so I got up and called the front desk. The front desk receptions wanted to send maintenance up to our room but really I wasn’t too fond of the idea of someone coming to our room at 1a.m. She suggested that she would call maintenance to see if there was anything they could do, or if the could provide any suggestions. Not sure what was done behind the scenes but w/​in a few minutes our A/​C unit kicked on. She returned the call and asked if anything happened and I told her yes that whatever was done worked (thank you).
So finally the room was cooling off but we couldn’t go back to sleep with the horrid mattress & pillows. Seriously it was disastrous. We were up at 6:15 a.m. ready to get the hell out of here and back home!!!

This hotel is very average but has a good location, extremely friendly staff and a great shuttle to and from the Sierra Nevada brewery which was really nice. The breakfast is pretty good and the two drinks per person is good with a long window of opportunity (5:30−9:30 I think).

Location:
+ /​-​right off HWY 99 within a business district with many chain restaurants and stores (e.g. Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Target, Walmart, Chico Mall), approx. 3 miles from downtown Chico/​Chico State but just around the corner from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
If you need an accommodation for a night or two Oxford Suites is a good choice. For longer stays I rather would stay in quaint B&B outside Chico. The town itself only has a small but nice downtown area next to Chico State but everything else runs between unpleasant to not noteworthy.
Broadway and Main Street can be explored within an hour (If you come here during the semester break there is barely anything going on.) and a 10 min from the hotel by car.
Close by is Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. (less than a mile), the hotel offers a shuttle but you can also walk there if it is not too hot outside.
Rooms:
I stayed in a king suite, however, the furniture is quite dark and some items, e.g. the sofa are in need of a good clean or replacement.
I recommend wearing earplugs if you don’t want to hear the fellow guests talk or smash their doors or dislike loud a/​cs.

We stayed here 2 weeks ago. We were in town for a concert and to visit old friends. Upon arrival the front desk people were very polite, nice, and informative about the area and things to do. Included with our stay was 2 free drink coupons and tickets to breakfast, also there was a a fridge in our room. (Huge issue for us in the past at different hotels) We stayed in a suite room which had a sitting area with couch desk and TV. There was another TV in front of our bed also. The room was very clean and tidy. I loved the lemongrass sage soap they had! We made it to happy hour for our drinks but we didn’t have time to go to breakfast because we made plans with our friends. But it looked delicious. All in all great experience, acceptable pricing, and great stay. We will be staying here again when we come back.

When this hotel was first built, I chose to stay a weekend with some friends. I have stayed at four other large chain hotels in the area and this one had the nicest accommodations in Chico, by far. Emphasis on the word, «HAD»…Beautiful rooms, appointed with refrigerators, microwaves, a mini bar, large bath area counters, and comfortable beds. The service was friendly and the lobby had a very upscale feeling.
I stayed here again in 2002. Not much had changed, except the prices.
Fast-​forward to September 2014. Nothing has changed, and that is not a positive statement.
What happened? Either they don’t care, or they are just not profitable enough to address normal maintenance and upkeep. Whatever the case, this place is worse than a no-​name inn in the middle of BFE now.
The lobby smells like a dirty sponge, the elevators smell like stale cigarettes, the hall carpets are stained and disgusting. I think they were once blue?
The hotel rooms are in a complete state of disrepair and in need a massive refurbishment. The room interiors have various components that are broken or have been rigged to work (with string, glue, tape, etc.) The shower head had hard water stains caked all over it, the shower knob was filled with dirt and fungus. The tile floors and walls were stained and aged. The towels were so old, they had a yellow tinge to them in some spots and have been starched within an inch of becoming cardboard.
The light switches and doors were stained with dirty hand prints and looked like they had never been wiped down.
But the worst parts of all? The shower had black mold growing inside almost every crevasse!
AND they re-​use the shampoo and soap bottles! Mine were half-​filled with WATER to appear full! Gross! I pumped the body wash 17 times to reach actual soap. It also made me wonder what I was actually conditioning my hair with *spine shivers*…
For the amount they charge, I could get a room at a four star hotel and rent a car, which is exactly what I’ll do on my next Chico visit. I’m just glad I didn’t come home with an infection or illness… Yuck.
I’m not brave enough to try this place again. Nope.
