Best turkey pesto sandwich I’ve ever had! And the fruit bowl was so delicious and fresh. Friendly staff too. They were out of the coffee that I wanted so they created a unique drink that would be similar and it was fantastic. Definitely recommend it!

The restaurant was empty when I went with some friends and they still managed to mess up one of our drinks and one of the sandwiches. I ordered the vegan wrap and it was good but the side was potato chips. I come to healthy restaurants to eat healthy, not be served junk food. The menu did not mention the chips or I would have asked for a substitution. The waitress did not come back to check on us or bring us boxes when we finished our food. Wouldn’t come back here, it’s too much money to pay for poor service, even if the food is decent

I used to really like this place but it seems like it is falling apart these days. I have gone a couple times over the last month and the pizza oven is still broken. What gives? Just buy a new pizza oven! Please! When I asked the server when a new one was expected to arrive they said I don’t know the management doesn’t listen to me. Comments like that indicate to me that the management does not value the opinions of their staff. Also everytime I’m there a significant number of their beer taps are not flowing. I think Midtown loco is a great idea and in a great location. I hope the management will bring it back to its full potential.

This was my first time coming to Midtown Local. We had just made it in time for the breakfast menu. The Midtown breakfast sandwich was really good and priced very well. You can taste the freshness in the food that they put out. The coffee was pretty standard, but for the same price and a better taste than Starbucks, its a great option to eat local. One thing I did notice that I can not speak for is the sandwiches. They did look fresh, however $ 10 for a sandwich is just a little bit above the market price in my opinion.

I used to be a regular at that other disrobed coffee place, but have found a new home at Midtown. Two things going for it, no, make that three: three things going – maybe four. First, the customer service. This above all has to work in order for any busy to thrive. They have this down. Always polite, ready to accommodate, recommend, and make a pour or dish to suit. The food is great. I’m a fan of the potato wrap sans tomatoes: mmm tasty. The jalepeno dip is bomb as well, and the rueben and the other sandwiches. The coffee is top notch and delish – don’t say delish: it’s pretentious. Coffee is good. I’m a fan of a pour over. The atmosphere is more working class than college hide out. I can bring clients here and host club meetings: bravo on that note. As much I like MTL small and quiet, I do tell all friends and clients about MTL. Prost!

Great menu, good food, well priced. From open to close you can find a good reason to be at midtown.
Highly recommend the weekend only biscuits and gravy.

Found this gem as the bf and I were looking for a bfast joint. It’s right off of Flume and 6^th, not the best location but it’s definitely a favorites for the local since the place got really busy as soon as we ordered. I got the breakfast sandwich which was really good! The sandwich is made of eggs (cooked with bits of bacon), slices of avocado, and cheese in between an asiago bagel. So good! We also got the Guido burrito which was great as well! Most of the breakfast items either come in the form of a burrito or scramble. The latter provides carbs and fruits. Definitely try their blueberry muffins with a latte! Our food came out in a short amt of time, but the latte took a while. This was understandable since there was only one barista making the drinks. They also serve mimosas, which I plan on trying next time!
Atmosphere is pretty hipster. They have patio seatings in the back too. Not sure if I would recommend coming here if you have a really large party (8+). You order at the counter and find your own seat. Btw, plenty of street parking though. Sweet!

They sell wonderful teas and coffee and in the evenings you can get wine and beer.
I would recommend getting a Chico Chai and one of their delicious bagels for a morning treat. If you go for lunch, get the Tuna Melt.

This place is a cute little «hole in the wall» coffee shop. Their coffee is AMAZING, and they use Equator coffee in their drinks. Their service and staff is extremely friendly, helpful, and personable. For service and coffee I would give them a 5, but the 3 stars are for their food. Their food is absolutely not bad, I just thought it was mediocre. I also only had a salad and a cup of soup, so I would love to go back and try their breakfasts and sandwiches because they looked delicious coming out from the kitchen. They have a great, broad menu for both lunch and breakfast, and I would love to stop in for some coffee and studying. I will definitely be back!

Food: Hit-​or-​miss. MB complained of a lack of pancakes here but said the coffee was one of the best she has tried in Chico so far. H and C got bagels which they liked. I got the Annie’s Glen Vegan Scramble wrap which was filling but lacked some salt.
Service: You order food at the counter, and the server brings your order to your table. Nothing more than that, really.
Ambience: Quiet and small. This place doesn’t accommodate large groups. In fact, my party of 8 that came here for Sunday brunch had to piece together 4 tables to have enough seats. Next time, I’ll come alone and sit on the patio.

So we kept hearing how great this place was, so we decided to try it for breakfast. The vibe inside was pretty cool. It resonates a throwback diner with a dash of modern hipster, the latter exacerbated by the streaming of Cold War Kids on the radio and a bearded dude with a beanie sitting alone and reading «The Alchemist».
The lady at the counter (presumably the owner) was really into the sandwich she was eating, so it took her a minute to realize we were waiting by the register. Not a huge issue, save for the fact that she kept doing so even as we (and others after) ordered, without ever once stopping to wash her hands before handling food or beverages. Not a ringing endorsement for cross contamination here, especially during flu season. What more to say, except that It must have been a really, really good sandwich.
The menu options are straightforward for breakfast – most everything comes as either a burrito or a scramble (the scramble coming with fruit and potatoes). And there is no choice for eggs other than scrambled, or scrambled. I ordered the pioneer scramble (mushrooms, sausage, green onions, pepper jack) and my gal ordered the biscuits and gravy with an egg side (the b&g comes alone otherwise). This is where our optimism began to sink into the abyss of the underwhelming.
My scramble was inedible. It was likely microwaved, and more than once. The first time presumably in the «scrambling» phase, and the second being the glue-​like gob of cheese that was melted on top. Everything about it was rubbery and granular, with little flavor. The potatoes, however, were quite flavorful and really the only thing on my plate that I could eat all of. At first glance, my fruit bowl looked delightful, with beautiful blueberries and strawberries on top. But the bottom half of the bowl was a mess of gooey, over-​ripe melon chunks that stared back at me with unapologetic surprise. The gal’s biscuits and gravy were OK – the biscuits were huge and fluffy (a good thing) but the gravy reminisced Thanksgiving dinner, NOT breakfast style country gravy. If I had to guess, I’d say the gravy base started in a Knorr gravy powder packet. Her egg side was not much better, slightly less rubbery but still quite bland, with that freshly microwaved feel to them.
We ordered two breakfast plates and only drank water and paid $ 25 including a modest tip. For that, we were gravely disappointed – if you’re going to go with a price point like that, you can do much, much better in Chico for breakfast. Having said all this, on vibe alone, and the fact that they serve beer and wine, we may pop back in for a drink when we head to the Pageant for a film. I just have no confidence in the menu at this point, and I would steer clear if your looking for a good breakfast joint for the money. Maybe breakfast just isn’t their thing.

I ordered biscuits and gravy with an egg on the side. She ordered egg bagel sandwich. we had 2 mimosa’s each as well.
B & G get 5/​10, the biscuits were ok, but the gravy was nearly homogenous with hard boney chunks in it. The «egg» was one step above mountain house freeze dried egg. It was cooked to death and back, lacking any flavor. I’m not actually sure it was a real egg as they only serve scrambled «egg». It seriously looked like an pale yellowish grey pile of moon rocks.

Egg bagel sandwich got a ⁵⁄₁₀ as well. Zero flavor in the bagel, or the egg. The claimed local bacon might of been local, but it died for nothing.

The whole «order at the register because we have no wait staff, and tip before you get your food» thing is super lame. Europe can keep this tradition.
I’ll go back one more time, people say it’s great. I want to see what they see.

I’ve had better. We had a tuna melt and a chicken Serrano sandwich. We both had butternut squash soup as our side. The soup was totally lacking flavor. It was like eating pumpkin pie filling from the can. I wanted to like it, and normally I really enjoy a cup of butternut squash soup, but this was dismal to say the least. Salt. Pepper. More of both.
Anyway…, could have been a one off, I’ll give them that. The sandwiches were meh too. The tuna melt was fine, nothing notable or special, and the chicken Serrano was pretty good. A bit much in the mayo department, but I think that’s where the chili flavor was coming from so I was glad to have that.
I imagine this would be a fun place to go for a beer or to relax and chat with friends with an appetizer. I do not like it for lunch. The cook/​wait person was grumpish and the restaurant was full of cooking haze and grease smell that permeated my clothes and made me smell like a grill all day. They could use some ventilation.
Décor is cute. Location interesting. Parking bad. Prices medium.
Return visit not looking good.

I’ve been here many times in the evening with friends for small plates and beer. The food has always been wonderful. Great customer service. So naturally we wanted to give the brunch a try!
We came today to have a birthday brunch for my sister. Food was good, mimosas were good. The only things that threw us off was the food didn’t come out all together. We waited 15 minutes after the first two plates arrived. My Dad’s fruit bowl came out right as we were finishing up. We forgot about it. The staff seemed frazzled as it was busy. Lastly the Belgian waffle, if you order it with bacon, it comes with the bacon chopped and inside the waffle.
It did not explain this on the menu, nor did the lady I ordered from explain until she brought it out. Just an FYI, not everyone wants their bacon IN their waffle. I hate it when my syrup touches my bacon. It should be apparent to all who order the waffle, that it’s inside of it. Surprises with my food is not exactly fun.
I will come back to enjoy the quieter evenings with less commotion. Breakfast, probably never again.

I enjoy quite a few of the offerings that are prepared daily at the Midtown Local. My current favorite is the Vegan BLT wrap with added capers and avocado
($.75). I recently heard that I missed out on chilled cucumber soup with dill. I’d love to see it make a comeback. I’d also like to see Beber almond milk used as it is made here in Chico as opposed to Bakersfield (which is where Califia is headquartered). Beber Pure is also made from almonds only without additives. Cheers!

The hummus Trio continues to be amazingly good. I highly recommend it.
The last time that we went the pizza crust was obviously old and not made fresh and to be honest it was terrible.

I finally went back to Midtown Local for more than beer and appetizers. I got lunch here with my mom at 2:30 on a Wednesday. We were almost he only people there — which is good or bad depending on how you look at it.
I go the vegan wrap with pepperjack daiya cheese and my mom got the Midtown Artisan Chicken salad but done as a wrap. It was counter service but for the sake of simplicity I am going to call the girl our waitress. First, she didn’t know they had vegan pepperjack cheese — I had to point it out to her on the menu. Then, when I was ordering my beer I asked her which Heretic brew they had on tap (I could see the tap handle) and she said «you can try it.» I tried to explain to her I didn’t need to try it I just wanted to know which beer it was. I named some different Heretic beers to see if one struck her memory but she still didn’t know. «It’s a dark beer» she said. She gave me a sample of what was not a dark beer but was actually their Evil Cousin. Seems like an honest mistake but you’d think she would just find the answer to my question since he boss/​manager was sitting right there in the office (I could see him from where I was). Midtown Local is supposedly owned by the owners of Handle Bar so you’d think their servers would be a little more beer-​savvy.
After ordering and getting our number, the waitress informed me they were out of Pepperjack Daiya cheese. No biggie– things happen. She said she could give me mozzarella instead. Then about 2 minutes later the chef came out and said they were out of all vegan cheese. And to think I almost ordered a pizza! Haha. I get that things «run out» but we paid extra to add cheese and they didn’t offer our money back. I’m sure if we had made a stink about it they would’ve given it back but it wasn’t worth the confusion.
When the food got to us, my wrap randomly came with potato chips and my moms did not. I don’t know if that was supposed to substitute for not having the cheese but since we both got wraps you’d think they’d just give chips to both of us. Guess not.
So far this sounds like a struggle but as soon as we started eating, the food was awesome! It was so incredibly fresh it tasted like they just pulled the veggies out of the garden that morning! I would say that the prices is a little high for a wrap but when you consider the freshness of ingredients you just have to chalk it up to a higher-​quality meal. My wrap had sunflower seeds in it which was delicious and my mom’s had blackberries, strawberries and asparagus in it which sounds weird but she said it was incredible.
Long review short; they have a few kinks to work out and maybe need some new servers (last time I came our server was awful then too). I don’t believe in judging a business by an experience with one server but constant less-​than-​average service is a little concerning. I still think it’s worth going to for the deliciousness of the vegan wrap. I can’t be blasphemous and get bagel sandwiches that aren’t from Brooklyn Bridge so I can’t voice for those (or the pizza) but the wraps were great!

I realllly love this place! It’s close to my home so very convenient and I like to stop by often. Almost a regular; they recognize me and say hi. Everyone is super friendly and laid back; no matter what time I come in it’s a great atmosphere and the service is quick. I like to come down for breakfast on the weekends; their scrambles are great and good portion of food. And when you order breakfast on the weekends you get a free mimosa too. They have a great menu with some unique options and everything tastes great! Some of my favorites are the Florentine scramble with bacon, the Midtown Breakfast sandwich, the Serrano Chicken sandwich, and the Upper Park pizza. I’ve tried almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed; it’s all very tasty and definitely hits the spot!

Came in in Saturday just before noon and it was pretty busy! It’s an order at the counter, get a number, and seat yourself kind of place.
Was disappointed that they stopped serving breakfast at 11am because I was looking forward to trying their breakfast burrito or bagel. So had to settle for lunch.
We got the Upper Park pizza and the hot roast beef sandwich. The pizza had lots of good quality bacon that stood out, but we suggest having red peppers on hand for pizza. The roast beef sandwich had a lot of good flavor from the aioli and my boyfriend really enjoyed the horseradish. I would have liked the beef a bit more peppery, but I still really enjoyed the sandwich. Would definitely get both dishes again.
Went a second time and got their biscuits and gravy, I’ve been looking for a good one! Unfortunately, I don’t know if this is the one. Instead of the regular black pepper flavoring the gravy, they used cayenne. I found it a bit too spicy, but my boyfriend said it was too salty. It just didn’t work for either of us. Granted I ate the whole thing, but unfortunately I don’t think it will be my go to dish.
