John and Anne are an award-​winning husband/​wife photojournalism team. We have years of experience shooting for major national and international publications like USA Today, Newsweek, BusinessWeek, People, Sports Illustrated, L’Express, The London Telegraph, and many more.

Eight years ago we turned our creative passion to wedding photography. We work as a team to photograph your wedding day combining skill and artistry to produce a wedding photo story full of depth, emotion, spontaneity, and beauty.

We work unobtrusively, capturing moments as they happen so you can relax and enjoy your wedding day. If the couple chooses, we can also set aside part of the day for posed group shots and «around town» photos.

Anne and John have both won more awards in the prestigious, international Wedding Photojournalism Association contests than any other photographers in the state of Illinois.

History

Established in 2003.

For 18 years Anne and John turned down requests for wedding photography, picturing it as being the same, dull, boring, posed photographs that were taken at their own wedding in 1985. After seeing what some of their friends around the country who were former newspaper and magazine photographers were doing with wedding photography, they realized they could apply their own photographic approach to weddings. zrWeddings was born and has been wonderfully rewarding to both couples and to Anne & John who have been honored to be a special part of so many couples’ wedding days.

Anne and John are absolutely amazing! This was the best decision we made for our wedding. During the wedding preparation period, they are always very responsive and answer all our questions with great insights. On the wedding day, they did a great job capturing all the natural beautiful moments and details and we did not have to pose for photos all the time. John and Anne were phenomenal! I look at our wedding photos that they shot this past July 2013 and I’m still amazed that such prestigious photographers do weddings. Not to mention, they are professional, discreet, so nice, complied happily with all of our location and pose requests, as well as guided us because they know what looks best.
Upon meeting John and Anne, they took us through their photobooks, had previous wedding pictures scrolling on their computer, we talked through the contract, and they answer any and all questions. Full disclosure prior to signing on. Then once we were a couple of weeks away from the wedding we touched base and nailed down locations and times and what to expect.
They were beyond great in the planning phases, and their photos were more than I could have hoped for. I am soooooooo glad we went with them!

Anne and John do exceptional photojournalism work. They were able to capture so many wonderful moments at our wedding while remaining totally inconspicuous. John even stayed until the very last person left to make sure they didn’t miss a single thing! Working with them was a pleasure as well since they are very professional and flexible. Also, my album or should I say albums (I just had to have two albums because there were so many great shots) are unbelievable and every person who looks at them when they’re over at our house is blown away at how incredible they are. If there was a way to give them more than 5 stars I would!

LOVE John and Ann! This was was the best decision we made for our wedding, they were amazing. Most of the day one of them was with either of us, they really captured the whole day. No posey pics which I cannot stand and tons of candids which I love. I am sure if you want more posed pics they would do it but they are really spectacular on capturing great unplanned moments. They are truly amazing!

Photojournalism is all the rage in wedding photography these days, but for too many wedding photographers, the label means little more than a few candid shots in black and white. Anne Ryan and John Zich are the real deal. This Chicago-​based husband/​wife team shoot for major publications like USA Today, Newsweek, and Life. Lucky you, they happen to shoot a handful of weddings each year, too.
