Addendum to comments about staff:
I couldn’t agree more with the comment about Kim. She was extremely rude for someone working at the reception desk. I felt unwelcome. For example, there was some confusion about who was assigned to which bed. When she addressed the issue, she was accusatory and condescending. Overall, the staff was great and I would still choose this hostel, however Kim made the experience end on a more sour note.

We had a great time staying at the Wrigley Hostel. The room was tidy, the bathrooms were clean, and the lounge was really nice. Lauren was especially great, she made us feel really welcome on our first night and she gave us helpful suggestions for food, drinks, etc.
However, another staff member, Kim, was short tempered and rude to us. First, on our last day we asked to store our luggage (a service they provide) and she obliged but when we returned later in the day we found that she had not locked the door. Second, seeing as it was less than 10 degrees outside (–11 with wind chill), we hoped to get our bearings and regroup inside the hostel before heading to the airport. Unfortunately, Kim spoke rudely to us and told us we could not stay because we had checked out earlier in the day. At the time, though, there were no other guests sitting in the lounge and we were not being disruptive.
Despite Kim’s unsavory attitude we had a great time at the hostel and recommend it to everyone!

My best friend and I stayed at the hostel for a long weekend in December. We stayed in the 8 bed co-​ed room and loved our experience. Not only was in inexpensive and centrally located to the things we wanted to do (I.E. a big strip of bars is the next street over, and we came for her birthday.), but the staff was friendly.
Pros:
–As previously mentioned, friendly staff.
–Great price.
–Clean rooms/​bathrooms.
–Opportunity to meet people from all over (we had a few bunk-​mates from Germany, Spain and Hong Kong)
–Common area in the basement is a good gathering place (we went out with our roommates both nights, so we’d relax/“pregame” down here before)
Cons:
–Room temperature. Now this one is a toss up. We came in the dead of winter and our bed was inches from the window. However, when we told the staff about how cold we were, they accommodated us with extra blankets and even a space heater. So I have a hard time marking this as a true «con».
That’s about it! I would HIGHLY recommend the Wrigley Hostel. We plan on coming back this summer!

We moved here from Utah and the apartment we had lined up fell through. We were stranded and emotionally beat. We found this Hostel and Lauren at the desk was helpful and friendly every single night.
The facility was clean and friendly and affordable. We are grateful we found this place and highly recommend it.
We met some real fun interesting people too!

I stayed here Wednesday-​Monday. The staff is friendly and encourages socializing. For someone who had not stayed at a hostel, I was slightly skeptical at first, but was able to enjoy the experience overall.

This is a great place if you want to be near to Wrigley. However, if this place really wanted to execute the concept they should hire an architect, gut the place and start over. Of course, the rates would reflect the increase investment.
They cram in a lot into small spaces. The bunks also need to be upgraded. If you are over 40 and expect ANY amenities look elsewhere. People are friendly and the place is clean. Bottom line — cheap & spartan.

I stayed for one night (Saturday-​Sunday), and I enjoyed my stay immensely. I plan to make weekend trips like this frequently in the future, and I will definitely be staying here for them!
Things I liked:
— The price ($ 63.18 for a four bed room).
— Everything was clean and new.
— The common area was nice, and it was great that drinking was allowed.
— The bedroom had everything I needed (bed, easily accessible power strip, lock, etc.) for the night.
— Boystown was a 10 minute walk away.
— My room was fairly isolated, so it was extremely quiet.
Things I didn’t like:
— I was not aware that you had to either bring your own lock or purchase one to use the lockers.
— Unsurprisingly, it was tough to find an open shower close to check-​out. There are about six rooms per floor, each with 1 – 8 people in them, and only two showers per floor. (I will say that the shower I did eventually find in the basement was super nice.)
— The bedroom was stiflingly hot. There was a window AC; however, it was not plugged in for some reason, and I was a little afraid of plugging it in to a power strip. As I had less than three hours to sleep by the time I got in, I didn’t want to ask anyone about the AC. If I had, I suspect the problem could have been straightened out easily, so I can’t really hold this issue against the hostel.

I have traveled across the globe and have stayed in many a hostel. I was here as part of a bachelor party. Here is what I liked and disliked:
Like:
— Great location
— Rooms are clean
— Bathrooms are mostly clean
— People are there from all over the world and are there to party
— The common area in the basement is nice for pre gaming
— Full kitchen on the first floor
Dislike:
— The staff (aka the owners) treat you like you’re on a high school field trip. It strikes me as odd that they advertise the place as a great central hub for your party and then scold you for making any noise when you come home from the bars at 3 am.
— No water pressure in the bathrooms
— Too many beds per room (I stayed in an 8 person room)
— Beds are way too small. I am 6’4″, so I get that not everything is made in my size, but my feet shouldn’t be hanging off the bed
I was vacillating between giving this place a 2, 3, or 4 star review. But the way the staff treated our entire party really upset me. There’s a reason we booked at a hostel, and it wasn’t to be treated like we were in a hotel. It might behoove the ownership to have someone without a stake in the company work the night shift.

The staff jut make you feel like home I definitely recommend Olivia she is very helpful and considerate the installation are good and it is also well ubicated.

One word «awesome»…perfect location for a visit… staff were nice and helpful… enjoyed my visit

So PUP is a band that has brought many of my friends and I together lately. They played at Schuba’s a few weeks ago, and I had some friends drive in from out of town for the show.
I live in the burbs, but do not have enough room to put up 5 other people. Nor did I want to worry about getting myself home after a late show. So, I did some poking around on airbnb, and found this sweet spot in the heart of Wrigleyville.
The front desk staff was super friendly and accommodating, and the free breakfast on Saturday morning was a plus. This place is a few hundred feet away from one of my fav Thai places (Cozy Noodle & Rice), and one of the best places to take in a baseball game (Wrigley Field). Great location if you feel like hitting up the nightlife on Clark, and I’d definitely stay here again if I knew I was going to going out in the area and not want to worry about driving home afterward.
My *only* complaint– and it’s worth noting, since I’m usually a heavy sleeper– is that we stayed in the room right off the kitchen, and it was prone to loud noises and talkers at 6am on a Saturday morning. Seriously, people. Wait an hour or so before you get all revved up.
Don’t be a dummy. Drop a few dollars here, spend the night meeting some cool people, have a place to rest your bones, and support a cool place.

I stayed here 1 night (June 25, 2014) and paid $ 32 for the 8 bed female dorm. I did have a problem when I checked in. I had booked the female dorm but I was accidentally put into a co-​ed dorm so imagine my surprise when I came back from eating and found a guy in the bunk across from me. The staff happily obliged my request to be moved to an all female dorm though, so no harm done.
The staff were actually very nice. I had sprained my wrist really badly in a previous city I was visiting and had a cast on so I couldn’t carry my luggage very well but the staff helped. They also gave me duct tape and plastic wrap so I could take a shower.

I spent two hours to explore where I could stay in a snowy night, feeling like I’m the little match girl. Then I decided I’ll stay wherever when I found the first available bed.
I couldn’t say it’s a wonderful place, since I could hear everything happening outside your room, and my room was like a cell randomly filled with 4 beds. But I gave it a two stars because it saved the little match girl’s life. And a plus, free WiFi and free breakfast.
One more star for the location. The next day I spent a beautiful morning in the Oz park and Lincoln park zoo.

I stayed at Wrigley Hostel for a total of 4 nights. From Midway Airport it took me around one hour to get to the hostel and it was very convenient by taking the Orange and the Red Line.
As far as I know, the Red Line runs 24 hours and is around three minutes away from the hostel, so it is easy to get there from the station (Addison). I probably walked by the hostel once or twice until I found the door because the signage was quite small and the house is in a residential area in a part of Chicago called Wrigleyville.
Wrigleyville has a lot of sports bars, some restaurants, the Wrigley Field (Baseball) and is a really beautiful and calm (Baseball off-​season I assume) neighborhood.
As for the hostel itself, I immediately liked it upon arrival. The staff was friendly and showed me around. There was a 5 $ deposit for the key and you could rent hair dryers at the front desk. The towels were free, which I thought was very nice.
I stayed in a female 8 bed room, which was full the first two nights. After that, we were only two people in the room. The room was huge and the beds quite wide. I loved the mattress because it was soft and comfy (not like other hostel mattresses I experienced). What I especially loved was that the room was warm and cozy (which is quite necessary with the dropping temperatures in winter) and there was no cold air coming through any holes in walls and such. I really liked that.
There were two toilets on each floor and one shower. I think one shower is not enough to serve a whole floor but it somehow worked out (I got up early) and I only had to wait for one person to finish at the most. The amenities were clean, mostly. There was a bunch of ugly hair but only right after some girls showered. I could see that the hostel staff puts a lot of emphasis on cleanliness because other than after shower «rush-​hour» everything was clean and neat.
Another plus point for the hostel is the breakfast. Even though I went to Einstein Bros. for my daily Bagel I saw that the breakfast had fresh fruit, fresh pancakes (there is actually one of the hostel staff preparing pancakes for you), coffee and tea. Very simple but nice breakfast that definitely is one in the upper levels of hostel breakfasts I’ve seen.
Also, there is a common room with computers for use, a TV and a pool table plus a BBQ deck where one can smoke or just hang out (if temperature allows)
So all in all I really loved my stay. The staff made me feel home, the location is great, the breakfast nice, the rooms beautiful and the other amenities such as common room and BBQ deck really make this hostel a great place. PLUS, there’s a very great Thai Rice& Noodle place like 50 steps from the hostel (Cozy Noodles&Rice, check it out!!)
Will definitely go back!

Staff are amazing. Location is great.
Bathroom needs serious work. Hygiene issues and a renovation badly needed. I felt dirtier after showering than before. More counters could be needed and at least something to stop the slippery floors!

Maybe it should be 2 stars I dunno, but spitting showers with little water, slimy bathtub floors, non existent pillows, horrible fluorescent lights that make everything look like a murder scene and smells heavy if glade plug in’s for $ 60. Kinda crazy

This hostel was average but it was in a convenient location. Close to the red line which runs ²⁴⁄₇. I booked a private room and after coming back after a night of exploring the city, I find that they put someone in the top bunk of my room. I figured it was a mistake and didn’t want to wake the person up. Apparently staff knew about this problem before I even said anything and gave me 25% off. Should have been a 50% refund but I was not in the mood to say anything as I was quite tired…
The hostel is very loud on the first floor due to the wood floors, and sound from the 2^nd floor can be heard in my room. The kitchen is right outside the doors of the dorm of the first floor and you can hear the fridge being opened at all hours of the night. These rooms are not well insulated. I could hear ppl talking, laughing and giggling all night long. Isn’t the whole point of a private room is to get some rest? My ear plugs did not do much for the noise.
The baggage check was also next door to my room, and the window to it did not have a shade. Its always a pleasure to be woken up at 5am with the light blasting in your face.
The beds were comfortable and staff was friendly. Also nice that they had surge protectors, allowing multiple electronics to be plugged in.
I’ve stayed in party hostels in the US and abroad and gotten plenty of rest but this place needs to do some remodeling and put some insulation in the walls. Perhaps if I was on another floor, the sound wouldn’t have been that bad. This place still uses old school keys instead of a card, and they charge a $ 5 deposit for they key, refundable on return.
Not sure if I would stay here again. If I did I would have to make sure I get one of the rooms which according to the website is «located in the quietest part of the hostel to ensure a great night sleep.»

I stayed with a group of 2 friends May 22^nd-​25^th. I had never been to a hostel before, and we were in town for an event downtown and had 0 luck with AirBnB. We were 22 – 25 years old.
It’s great and met our expectations of friendly staff/​a clean decent-​sized affordable place to stay/​a shower (which you often had to wait for or run around between all their bathrooms to find an open one).
It’s loud — so be prepared to have people who are drunk and socializing, but nothing negative or ridiculous. I highly recommend ear plugs for either the night, or the morning (they sell them for $ 2 if you don’t have any).
They do have a breakfast — it would be great if i was in college perhaps but it was cheap bread/​jam/​peanut butter/​pancakes so not my style. No complaints, i was just as happy to find a nearby restaurant or diner, of which there are PLENTY.
Location is superb — super close to the Red Line, tons of nightlife, both Wrigleyville and Boystown.
Their deposits were reasonable, they no longer charged for a towel (though they did run out at one point and i used a beach towel), and wristbands were done away with (a previous poster mentioned being annoyed to wear them).
Rooms were clean.
Other guests were young, fun, and from all over the world (we were from minneapolis, MN).
There was plenty to do that was organized, unfortunately we were there with a specific itinerary and only chatted before and after going out with the other guests.
Their common room was nice, though you could tell some guests wanted quiet and other guests didn’t (this was on the weekend, so no one ever mentioned being annoyed by noise).
I would stay again and i would definitely be open to hostels in the future, but i will try to plan a vacation where im looking to meet people and have a more flexible schedule.
***Neighborhood was nice/​Safe/​cute even. The hostel is not obviously marked, but it was easy to find with the address listed above their door, and a subtle sign in the window.

I’ve never stayed at a hostel before and wasn’t sure what I got myself into but this place is great!
The hostel is a two minute walk to the Addison red line stop which takes you downtown in under 20 minutes. However, you’re in Wrigleyville and there are so many great bars and restaurants near the hostel that are all within walking distance for a great night out.
What sold me when looking at their website was the pool table! There’s also TV, darts, ping pong and lots of games to keep yourself busy. They have a kitchen that you can use and store your food in. They also provide a free breakfast every morning.
There are so many travelers that come in and out of the hostel that you get to meet tons of great people. They have a bar crawl every Thursday night, which most people staying there participate in, and it’s a great time!
The staff is super friendly and helpful. They keep the rooms clean and tidy for a comfortable stay.
I recommend this hostel, it’s fun, safe and in a great location!

This is a great place to stay if you need to stay for a day or two if you plan on visiting Chicago. The place is located 2 minutes from Wrigley Field. There are a lot of bars in the are you can go to!
The staff here is friendly and the place is pretty clean. Your room will usually have about 6 – 7 people there, and the place tries to have activities to help you meet and get to know the people you’re staying with. You have to give a $ 5 deposit for your key, but you will get it back after you check-​out. The place provides breakfast for you, such as pancakes, toast, and fresh fruit. Coffee and tea is also provided for you. I would recommend this place because it is safe and secure to stay at the hostel!
