What Up Dawg

I go to the dog park with my little pug, Pappy, and see Herb almost every single day. He is beyond fantastic with all of the dogs that he’s caring for as well as all the other dogs that are at the park. He genuinely loves these dogs and it is very obvious. If I ever needed a dog walker, I wouldn’t hesitate to contact Herb. He doesn’t just walk these dogs; he runs them around and exercises them while ensuring that they’re having fun every second that they’re with him. I can’t say enough great things about him!!!

I’ve used Herb on and off for the last 3 years. Initially I needed him to help on occasion for my dog (Bosley), and my brother’s dog. However in the last year, I’ve had a chance in jobs and needed some help with my pooch!
I’m so glad to have help ok my long days at work, and it is worth not having the stress of worrying of my dog is OK or if I’m going to come home to an accident! Plus, I am rest assured Bosley is getting some socialization and company when he goes to the park. On my first day back with Herb, he sent me a picture of my dog, which was really great.
I will be moving and it looks like Herb is just out of my area. However I would recommend him to anyone. Prices are reasonable and seem in line with this area.

Bella (my dog) and I are moving from the area after three years and with the sadest regrets will be leaving Herb, Erin and Oliver. Herb and his team will be one of the things I miss most about the Wicker/​Bucktown area.
lf you are looking for caring, dedicated (and flexible) dog walkers that will go above and beyond what you would expect from a dog walking service stop now and call Herb. I could go on and on, but will save you the time and trouble, call them!

knew herb from years of taking my dogs to the park. came across many dog walkers and herb was hands down the most wondeful with his dogs. he is incredibly playful, energetic, and responsible with his pack. Limits the amount of dogs he takes out to assure he can give them each the attention they want.
when i got a job last year there wasnt anyone besides herb i would have wanted to ask to start taking my dogs out. it has been over a year now and there is not a single complaint i can think of. he is consistently available and one of the most responsible business people people i know.
if you are looking for a dog walker or someone to care for your dogs herb is the bes. i would give him 10 stars if i could.

I left my little Boston Terrier in Herb’s capable hands for the weekend when I went off to camp with friends for the weekend (BTs aren’t big on being outdoors during the hot hot summer). Although I freaked out a bit leaving my little guy with someone else, Herb was relaxed. When I dropped my pup off on Friday he immediately ran around Herb’s enormous backyard (who has a backyard that big in the city?!?) like a mustang runnin’ free. Herb’s two elder canine ambassadors were there and they were pretty calm with my little ankle-​biter. Fast forward to Sunday when Herb dropped off his charge. My pup was happy, relaxed and wanted to get back into Herb’s car as he drove away. Final verdict: A+ for dog boarding!

I can’t say much more than what has already been said in other reviews, but I agree that Herb great. I had a fantastic walker in another city that my dog adored, so I was skeptical about finding one who was nearly as good in Chicago. I was happily surprised when I found Herb, he’s as good as it gets.
Like others, I found Herb on Unilocal.I tried to get some personal recommendations before moving to Chicago, but I didn’t know anyone in the area with a dog. So I read the reviews here, called Herb, interviewed him, then met him at the park to see him in action. He takes a group of dogs to Churchill Park so they can be off leash. I watched him play with the dogs for a bit before introducing myself, and I was sold. The dogs love him and respect him, and he does his best to get all the dogs involved and tired out. This is key for those of us with high energy dogs. Herb understands dogs and runs a good business, and my life is less complicated as a result.

We found Herb on Unilocal!when we were looking for a new dog walker, and he had stellar reviews so we thought we would check him out.
To say that Herb is just a dog walker is not accurate. First, he does not just walk the dogs; rather, he takes the dogs to a park where he exercises them himself, actively. Our dog absolutely loves going with Herb on a daily basis; he is exhausted when he comes home having played for the entire time they were at the park. Once our pup got a stomach bug and Herb called us immediately and then stayed at our place to clean up. It’s another level of service that we haven’t received from other dog walkers — the care and attention our dog receives goes above and beyond.
More importantly, Herb is one of the nicest, most straightforward, honest and positive people we have worked with in Chicago in a long time. He is reliable, responsive and concerned for all of our needs, no matter how insignificant. Often when we get caught at work late, Herb will be available to make an extra trip back to our place to give our dog dinner and let him out again.
Our dog dealt with a more serious health issue last year, and Herb was incredibly helpful. He worked with us to provide us with some alternative options to trips to the dog park during the day and was constantly checking in to see how our pup was doing. It was terrific — we felt like he was part of our family in his concern and care for our dog.
We would strongly recommend What Up Dawg to anyone who is interested in a dog care service during the day in Chicago.

I chose Herb based on seeing him at the dog park and watching how he interactedwith the dogs when the dog owners weren’t present. I was so impressed that I knew if I needed to have a dog walker, he’d be my first call. Fast forward a few months and I ended up needing a dog walker. His associate Oliver actually walks Gus and he’s been amazing! Oliver is always on time and writes detailed notes on how things went. He even takes him to the park on occasion which is really nice. I can’t say enough about Herb and Oliver. There’s so many dog walkers out there but I can’t imagine having anyone else take care of Gus.

We met Herb through our neighbors who have been using «What Up Dawg» for years. Herb is why I was able to keep my beloved Mosley, it was touch and go in the beginning but he helped Mosley acclimate to the concept of condo living (Mosley’s an anxious rescue) and helped me figure out how to handle a sweet but finicky dog. Herb’s great, he has a real sense about dogs and they mirror his confidence, I would recommend Herb to anyone who needs their dog walked or watched.

I know Herb from the Churchill Dog Park. While I’ve never utilised any of Herb’s dog walking services or training… I can say from my experience with him at the dog park that he is GREAT w/​dogs, not to mention he is just a great guy as well.
He’s always active & interacting with the dogs… even dogs that he isn’t responsible for, and seems to bring the best out of everyone at the dog park. I know my dog Eli loves when Herb is around, getting everyone involved with the racquetballs… and I’ve learned a thing or two just by being around him and his dogs at the dog park. The dog park is definitely a better place when Herb is there… hands down. I mean… we take our dogs to the dog park so they can have fun and more importantly, get some excercise… Herb definitely accomplishes both!
I’d definitely reccomend Herb to anyone I knew who needed a dog walker/​training/​etc. without a second thought. I’m new to the area, and one of our favorite things about Chicago so far is having Herb at the dog park.
If you need a dog walker… don’t look anywhere else! Seriously… stop looking and call him.

I think that the only person my dog Stella likes as much as me is Herb! Since Herb started taking care of Stella, I have not lost a single shoe to a doggy accident… She comes home from the park happy and tired — which is great for my heels. Before I brought Stella home, I spent a lot of time visiting the dog park to scope out dog walkers. Herb immediately captured my attention because he always seems to be having fun. He plays with the dogs the entire time they are there and he knows how to control any situation that might arise. I trust Herb completely with Stella. I’m grateful to have found such a wonderful person to come into my home to take care of Stella. Herb has saved me on a number of occasions where I have a late meeting and need an extra or off-​day walk.

I have never seen anyone with such a good comand over a dog! Herb is a wonderful dog walker. Not only is he a professional, he really loves the animals that he cares for. I highly recommed him to anyone looking for a trusty worthy and devoted person to care for their furry children!

It does not get better than Herb. I have joint custody of my dog Bella, as my suburban parents fell in love with her and pretty much stole her from me when she was a year old. I get her a couple times a month for a few days at a time and always try to get her time with Herb because she LOVES him. She is a talker of a husky, but when Herb comes her world comes alive. He once came for a neighbor’s dog and not Bella and I didn’t hear the end of it until I called and asked if he could pick her up in the next round.
Herb is incredible with dogs, plays with them on park visits, she comes home tired and relaxed. When I had her for a week, she lost a couple of pounds in his group, though my mother promptly plumped her up as soon as she got back to the burbs. Knowing Herb is coming, I don’t worry for a second about leaving her to go to work. You couldn’t place your pup in better hands. We’re lucky to have him.

Herb’s great. He’s the only one to ever walk my dog and I trust him without unconditionally with her. He’s easily accessible, reliable, and his rates are very reasonable. I’ve see him at the dog park on a regular basis and he’s very interactive with all the dogs and keeps them all in line.
Highly recommended!

Herb is the best, period.
He’s been walking Sinclair and Drake for well over a year now. He’s dependable, hard-​working, and an all-​around nice guy. We trust him with our pups without any reservation.
Plus, you should see the dogs when they know Herb is at the door. They wag their tails so hard that their back half shakes. It’s hilarious.
