Weissbluth Pediatrics

My son is 13 months and I have been bringing him to this practice since he was a newborn. We originally met with Dr. Asha, who I loved and felt was very personable. Thereafter, all of our visits were with Dr. Diana who we also really loved. When I called to schedule my son’s 12 month visit I was notified that Dr. Diana was no longer with the practice so I just let them schedule me with whoever was available.
At our appointment, I was surprised when they sent in a nurse practitioner to do the appointment. I do not mean to discredit a nurse but when I bring my son in for his one year check up it should have been with a Dr. Not a nurse. If it was a sick visit and you are fitting me in then I understand.
At his one year appointment, my only question pertained to what is the best way to switch my son from formula to milk. I have used the babywise method of sleeping training because it teaches your kid to be able to go to sleep on his own without needing a bottle or to be rocked. Using this method, when the baby wakes up, you feed them and then they play. Once they start rubbing their eyes or getting fussy you know they are tired and you put them down for a nap while they are awake and then repeat… when they wake you feed them ect. The reason I am sharing this information is because my son is so used to ALWAYS getting a bottle of formula upon waking which is why I was wondering the best way to go about switching to milk. When they start drinking milk they don’t drink 30 ounces of milk a day like my son did on formula.
When I asked the nurse if she knew about the Babywise method, she was not aware and was very snotty in her response. To be very honest, I was initially perturbed that they sent in a nurse practitioner and secondly she wasn’t familiar with a Babywise when over 3 million copies of the book have been sold. In my own personal opinion if you work with infants then you should at least know about it. So I was also rude and very annoyed so we decided that I would see an actual doctor.
So in comes Dr. Dan, who I have never seen. He never let me finish my point of why babywise was important and he just talked about sleep training. I never once asked him about sleep training my son. My son had been sleep trained for the past 6 months. He told me that my son should be going to bed at 5 p.m. and if he goes to bed later than that then my son is over tired? My kid does not go to bed at 5 p.m. I would never see him. My kid take two 2 – 3 hour naps a day and sleeps 10 – 12 hours straight and he goes down to sleep in his crib awake with a smile on his face. NO JOKE. Once he told me I should be putting my kid to bed at 5 p.m. I knew it was time to switch peds.
I simply wanted to know how to switch him to milk since he was so used to always getting a bottle upon waking. I am a first time mom and had never done this. He then proceeded to tell me 5 times that obviously my kid has never missed a meal and could tell that by looking at him. I am not exaggerating when I say he said it 5 times. He told me sleep and food are not related. Well in our schedule it is and had Dr. Dan listened to me instead of just talking non stop then he would have known that. None of my friends could get over it when I told them that they should be putting their 1 year old to bed at 5.
The entire appointment was a complete waste of time and I left feeling fustrated and upset. All I can say is thank god for google. My son is down from 5 bottles to only 2 of milk and he still doesn’t drink regular milk out of a sippy cup (it has to be flavored) but I am working on it.
My son has been sick since that visit and we have come in and seen Dr. Laura and love her. However, she is pregnant and I don’t know when she is due or how long she will be out so I just decided to find another pediatrician.
I have a friend that have been going to Weissbluth and has had an issue as well. I know its a new practice so of course there are growing pains but I don’t have time to deal with someone else’s growing pains. My gyno warned me about this practice when he asked me who I chose for a Ped but I had already met Dr. Asha and felt good about my decision. I guess I had to learn for myself.
I will also say that the wait times to be seen are HORRIBLE. My son was sick and they had us wait over an hour. Dr. Laura apologized but every time I go in the wait is longer and longer. I also do not like how they do not have a sick waiting room and a well waiting room.

I thought I was going to love Weissbluth Pediatrics after we did the pre-​natal office visit. Now that our son has been a patient for several months, I think we break even in terms of our overall experience and I can say that I’m not disappointed that we have to leave the practice when we move to the suburbs later this year.
We have seen several doctors in this practice, and every one of them seemed like they had one foot out of the door 10 minutes into the appointment. We are first time parents who have lots of questions, and I know we are not the only first time parents with lots of questions in their practice, but I always feel like they are rushing to get through our appointments. I also don’t feel like they are focused when they are actually in the exam room. So, the lack of focus and the feeling of being rushed out of the appointment doesn’t exactly leave me with the warm and fuzzies and on more than 1 occasion I have walked out of my son’s appointments with unanswered questions. One time the doc gave the their card so I could email my questions afterward, which I did, and at the end of the day I ended up being told that I would need to come back into the office if I wanted more information.
Also, this practice nickels and dimes you for everything. Leaving a message for the on-​call doctor after hours is $ 25, and there are even charges for getting certain records from the records department. We had to pay $ 10 bucks for them to fill out the immunization information for daycare, and it took a few days! It’s bad enough that you have a sick kid that requires you to have to call the docs after hours, but then you get slapped with a fee for doing so!

Picking a pediatric practice isn’t easy for everyone. We are new parents of twins! We went where the hospital recommend at first. I made it through 2 or 3 appointments before I knew I wanted a different kind of care.
After a request to my network for recommendations I heard several times about Dr. Weissbluth’s practice. I later realized we have a Weissbluth book on sleep training twins that we found very helpful.
It’s only after our 6 month appointment that I’ve decided to write my review. Mostly because I’ve finally decided how I feel about the practice. I’m very happy.
There are several reasons people have for choosing a doctor or practice. For me it’s really about the care. Do I feel safe? My answer here is a resounding yes. I feel like my doctors and their staff are experienced, careful and educated. And, in today’s over informed Google searching society there are many opinions out there.
So…if you are thinking about changing or about to choose your first pediatric practice and you are mostly concerned with skill, care and safety, then this practice is top notch.
The office is beautiful and clean. The staff is friendly. The technology is advanced. Do we wait from time to time? A bit. But, nothing that seems excessive. I’m a practical guy. I am a business owner, and a consultant to other business owners. So… I’m forgiving to a point. Probably more than others.
But, running a practice is difficult in our times. People are self educating (sometimes incorrectly), technology is changing rapidly, we know more about the human body, insurance is harder to navigate, and regulations are all over the place. I like to remember that it is a challenge to run a business, and even more challenging when little lives are in your hands.
With all that in mind this practice is well worth a wait or a slight inconvenience, of which we have experienced very little of either. They care about my children, they care about us, and they are highly skilled. Highly recommended.

This review is based on my first visit. Just took my 2 month old daughter and the entire staff was great! Getting shots for a little baby is no fun but the nurse explained the shots and did them very quickly. The doctor was also knowledgeable and patient. I felt really good about the whole experience! Bringing my other kids next month.

I’ve been taking my son here since his birth; he’s now four-​months old. I would say our experience has been slightly more positive vs. negative, but I’ve definitely been underwhelmed, especially when it comes to communication and follow-​through.
The Good: Dr. Asha & Dr. Dan are great. Dr. Asha first saw our son when he was born in the hospital and then we just had one more appointment before she went on maternity leave. She was thorough and very personable. Dr. Dan was very kind to connect with me when I was pregnant and has always been prompt for appointments. Obviously, you know where he stands on sleep… I’ve applied his advice and we have a four-​month old who sleeps for 12 hours straight — a true gift! I also love the flexible hours.
The Bad: from an organizational/​communication/​follow-​through stand-​point, I’ve been very frustrated. Sometimes it feels like, «who’s on first?» I’ll give three examples:
Long-​Wait/​Poor Communication: For my son’s two month appointment, I showed up 10 minutes late (their parking garage was back logged), regardless, I understood if we had to wait a bit longer… to a point. 45 minutes after being checked in, we were still sitting solo in an exam room with no update from the staff. At this point, I had to initiate an update from the front desk — they said I was «next in line»…it took an additional 30 minutes. Instead of the doctor apologizing for the 1 hour and 15 minute wait, she made it a point to tell me it was my fault because I was late to the appointment. Just because the patient is 10 minutes late does not excuse over an hour wait time. Additionally, you should always communicate to the patient if things are running significantly behind — manage expectations.
Poor Follow-​Through: I called the office at 9:45 AM, as I was concerned over a rash my son developed, they said I could send a picture and they could review quickly and let me know if I needed to bring him in (I told them I’m a working mom and had appointments in the afternoon, so needed direction urgently). I immediately sent the pictures to the email address they provided. After two hours of hearing nothing, I initiated a call to the office and was told they had reviewed the pictures and the nurse would be calling me shortly. Once again, they didn’t manage expectations or communicate. The nurse didn’t call until after business hours, at 6:15 PM and, once again, no apology for the delay… and oh by the way, she said we needed to come in — seriously, you couldn’t let me know that when I could actually do something during the day? As a first time mom, I was really worried over my little guy and to not have them respond all day, especially when they said they would be calling «shortly» twice, is not considerate or acceptable.
Mixed Communication on Billing: three times I’ve had voicemails saying I have a balance that needs paid — every time I call back to pay, they say there is no balance. I’m not sure why this keeps happening. It’s not a deal breaker, but just feels unorganized.
Beautiful facility, great flexibility and overall great doctors, but their poor communication and follow-​through have me looking for another practice.

After trying different practice. I was told about this clinic by another physician. My experience so far with dr Diana and dr Dan is excellent. The location the set up the organization of the clinic all add to the joyful experience. It’s a clinic managed by good ppl I highly recommend them.

We love Dr. Dan. We followed him when he opened his own practice, Weissbluth Pediatrics, a few years back. The whole team is great/​friendly/​knowledgeable and the appointments always start on time. I love that they offer both early morning sick hours and weekend appointments — this is key for working parents. We recently moved out of the city, but still commute in a couple times a year to meet with Dr. Dan.

Just wanted to give a follow up update on this terrific practice! I took my 5 year old in this morning for a drop-​in visit as he has been coughing quite a bit for a week now (apparently we’ve been really fortunate in the past with a cold lasting only 4 – 5 days!). Beautiful, clean, bright office. The staff were all attentive and pleasant. They were able to take us right away. Misty is just the sweetest in her interaction with my little guy. And Doctor Diana also has just a wonderful demeanor. Such a fantastic doctor’s office! The validated price for up to two hours parking is $ 14 btw.

I am a first time mom, and you know what they say about first time moms… we are fragile and over protective.
Our first experience with Weissbluth Pediatrics made me feel very special. I was supposed to have a prenatal appointment with another doctor in the practice. I received a call from Dr. Weissbluth himself who called to apologize but there would be a last minute change. He hoped that I would understand, but to call him personally if I had any issues. I was floored the top doc. called me to make sure I was okay with a switch.
We came in to meet Dr. Diana, she is warm and absolutely what a pediatric doctor should be. I explained that I ask tons of questions, as I opened my notebook with 7 pages of notes and questions. I am sure we took longer than we were supposed to, but Diana was patient and so kind. She treated my husband and I with respect as she answered my questions and follow up questions. She also explained that I could email her any time I had any additional questions. Of course, I have emailed her a ton already!
My son has finally arrived and my experience with Weissbluth Pediatrics gets better and better. I had a hard time getting my son to latch correctly, and in walks Nurse Sammi (Lactation specialist). Wow, she made me look like a breastfeeding champion.
As parents we have a choice in who we pick for healthcare providers, and I am so glad I found Weissbluth Pediatrics. The professionalism, caring and overall awesomeness is special.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said? Hours 7 days a week, walk-​in hours in the mornings, an online portal that’s actually useful, house calls if needed/​wanted, excellent customer service, new parent and subject-​specific information sessions, outstanding doctors. Lactation consultant on staff. The office is around the corner from Lurie and Prentice. Appointments that run on time — that’s HUGE and not exactly common in the medical field. The nurses are also great.
I started taking my son here about a year ago (he is now 20 months) after some horrid experiences with a previous practice. I was able to get a meet and greet appointment right away, no charge. I got to ask lots of questions, meet the staff, and see the office. They pretty much had me at hello.
I also just had another baby this month, so we now have 2 patients with Weissbluth! Both of my kids have seen Dr. Asha more than anyone else so far, but every doctor we’ve encountered has been great. They are genuinely interested in the health of your kid, and don’t just read at you from the American Academy of Pediatrics manual. The doctors are thorough with exams, and never seem rushed. They ask questions, and tailor their recommendations accordingly.
The practice as a whole is very supportive of breast feeding. They also support vaccination on the regular schedule, so if you have concerns about that you may want to call ahead to discuss that with a doctor.
I feel like I hit the jackpot with this practice! They are absolutely wonderful in every way.

We love Weissbluth Pediatrics! Everyone in the office is incredibly warm, and knowledgeable. Dr. Dan was amazing from the beginning, and we knew right away that this was the place for us. My husband and I wanted our daughter to have a female doctor (mostly as we thought ahead to those awkward pre-​teen years in her future), so we started to meet with all the great doctors in the practice. Aubrey LOVES Dr. Diana, and so do we! She is a wonderful pediatrician, and has such a naturally sweet demeanor, it’s no surprise that we all love her so much. I cannot articulate the comfort a first time mom feels to know, without a doubt, that her child is in good hands.
The nurses deserve a shoutout as well — every one is really friendly, not to mention skilled at making vaccinations as quick and painless as possible!
I cannot say enough how much we love bringing our daughter here. The entire environment makes you feel like you’re just part of the Weissbluth family. It’s a pretty special place — I definitely recommend it.

My family loves this practice! We have been seeing Dr. Diana since our little guy was born and have had the chance to meet with the other doctors in the practice, all of whom are very sweet. We love Dr Diana though — she is amazing with kids, has excellent bedside manner and is very knowledgeable, patient and calming, which are all important (especially for first time parents)!!
At our last visit, Dr Dan came by and asked if we needed any help with our little guy’s sleep habits and to call him with whatever questions we had. It was a very nice gesture! The doctors in this practice all seem to go out of their way for the parents and kids, which is heartwarming because it shows they really care about their patients.

Weissbluth Pediatrics is the proverbial «owners manual» that should accompany newborns and their new parents upon discharge from the hospital. Nearly two years with Doctor Dan and his knowledgeable team and they never cease to amaze. Sick and well hours on Sundays are nothing less than a luxury for these two full-​time working parents. Thank you Dr. Dan and team for keeping the Hannes clan running healthy, strong and most notably, sleeping well.

We’ve been with Dr Dan since before he even started this practice and have always had a great experience with everyone at this practice. The doctors and nurses are always responsive and very available whether through the patient portal, the phone or quickly scheduled appointments.
I love that you can book appointments, message the doctors, pay bills, etc all online. The office is welcoming, clean and fun for the kids. The location is very convenient.
Most of all, Dr Dan’s sleep methods REALLY WORK! The proof is in the pudding — both of our children were sleeping through the night (12+ hours!) since about 3 months of age. And for any parent for whom sleep is as important as it is to me, that’s priceless!

My daughter (now 3.5 yr old) and now son (9 months) have been patients of Dr Dan’s from the beginning. We LOVE Weissbluth Pediatrics! Dr Dan’s staff is always so kind and gracious. Their waiting area is so warm and welcoming, my daughter actually loves visiting their offices. Parking is super easy. They are always flexible and available — 7 days a week! We travel overseas a lot and Dr Weissbluth has always made himself accessible through Skype, email or phone which is amazing considering few practices that I know of will do so. I have followed his sleep training methods with both kids and it has worked great for us with both kids. I can’t recommend Weissbluth Pediatrics enough!!!

We took our daughter to the county health department to get some of her vaccinations for ¼ of the cost and good old Dan Weissbluth has the audacity to tell us that «We are a business, and businesses make money etc.» He told us if we did that again that they would drop us as patients. Well we found a new pediatrician the next day and have been happy ever since.

Dr. Dan and his staffs exceed my expectations! Long story short, here are the things I liked about the practice:
— they take weekend appointments (both Saturday and Sunday!) for regular checkups, which is a huge plus for people like us, who are busy working professionals, so we don’t need to take time off from work for the doc visit.
— the sleeping training advice Dr. Dan gave us. We used to have to hold and rock my daughter for hours at night before she can fall asleep, and once we put her down she woke up right away. That was exhausting! At the 4 months checkup, Dr. Dan wrote the sleeping rules for my daughter and we are glad we followed it. At beginning when we first heard we need to put her sleep as early as 5:30pm, we were like that’s not possible, that’s too early; however, we are happy than ever that she goes to bed that early now.
— Dr. Dan and his staffs always make them available for questions, even at off hours. Being a mom first time can be clueless and overreacting on things, there was one time my daughter got a sunburn, I emailed Dr. Dan at 12:00am Sunday morning, and he emailed me right back! I asked all kinds of questions via emails and phone and they always got back to me on a timely manner, although some of my questions are silly, now when I think about it.
— if you meet Dr. Dan, you will know he is a very hard working, ambitious, friendly, funny doc, and business man, high tech too! Everyone at the office is super friendly!

I liked the office and the support staff. I like that he offers free consults for new patients. I like that there are Sunday hours. I like that he is open to alternative vax schedules.
The doc showed up 30 minutes late to the apt and rushed through the exam. Upon describing recent sleep issues, he strongly advocated for the extinction method. When I told him I was unsure if I would be able to let my kid cry for hours at a time, he told me I should probably see a therapist. I refused this advice and shortly thereafter found another sleep consultant who promotes more gentle sleep training methods. I am happy to report my child is now sleeping through the night and I definitely did not have to lock her in a room overnight nor did she cry for more than 5 minutes at a time. He made it sound like there were no alternatives that work and that just isn’t true!

Every time I walk in this office, I wish I was a kid again!
In the past I never felt truly satisfied with my pediatrician or their staff. Finally the search is over. My children always look forward to going, even if it is for their 4 month old baby sister.
Also everything is accessible through their website which makes it easier to schedule appointments and information about child’s visit.
I must say it will be a sad day when the children grow up and won’t need a pediatrician anymore. Till then I’ll enjoy every visit with them as well.

Dr Dan is a kind, caring, supportive, wonderful doctor who loves his patients and makes parents feel comfortable and confident. Nurses are equally fantastic. There is rarely a wait time, and through digital technology it is always possible to reach a physician when needed — any time day or night.
Dr Dan makes it worth the drive to come in from the suburbs for check ups. He treats my son and our family like we are the most important person/​people he could help; and I know he treats all of his patients that way.
