Vino 100

THIS PLACE IS NOW CLOSED! I live right by it and was walking home tonight after working out and saw the lights off. I went to the door and the door was locked and the store is completely empty. It’s a shame because it was convenient, cheap, and great selection of wine. Too bad.

Vino 100 provides Fantastic service and a great selection! Since discovering this place a year ago I no longer shop for wine anywhere else.

If you, like me, know next to nothing about wine, this store is a godsend. I learned about Vino 100 a few years back at a Unilocal event and have returned for their sage wine advice.
It’s not just the concept of Vino 100 that keeps me coming back, but I do love the model it’s built on. The store offers 100 wines at $ 25 or under. These aren’t names like Barefoot or Mezzacorona — fine options, but ones you’d find at your typical grocery or liquor stores — it is a carefully curated selection of great wines.
The Unilocal event impressed me, but my experience as a regular customer has knocked my socks off. On one of my first post-​event visits, I was looking to pair a white with some ceviche we were making. The store owner asked a bunch of questions about the type of ceviche and picked three wines he thought complemented the dish best. I may not know much about wine, but I can tell you, the bottle was a huge hit. My friends, who have more discriminating wine tastes, devoured it. Now, when I come back, I don’t attempt to pick something, I simply tell them what I need and what I like and let them guide me. They usually give me a safe option and some more unusual choices; I like to be daring and go for the unusual ones. I did notice on my most recent visit that they’ve started featuring a few wines over $ 25; I’m guessing that’s in addition to the 100 they advertise.
The only improvement I can think of would be creating a system to track your purchase history; there are definitely wines I’d like to buy again. The only thing I don’t like about this store isn’t their fault; it’s the crazy parking lot for the strip mall the store is housed in; it’s reminds me of mall parking lots during the height of Christmas shopping. You will be stalked for your spot or stuck in a line of cars hunting for one. All. the. time.

Wine Lovers Paradise!
I love that the bottles are reasonably priced and delicious. I have only tried whites from there, but seeing as how great the wines were, I may venture into trying reds (even though they’re not my favorite).
The gentleman working (owner? manager?) was really nice. He was quiet enough to let me read through the wine description cards but offered assistance if I needed it.
If you love wine, you must go.

This was probably the best experience we’ve had at a wine-​related establishment so far, mainly because of the excellent service. We came on Saturday hoping to try some wines and buy a bottle of something unique. We were immediately welcomed and warmly invited to partake in the tasting. Awkwardly, my partner really had to go to the bathroom at this point and was about to leave for some grocery store, but the gentleman in the shop kindly let him use what was probably the employee bathroom instead.
He had four bottles of Spanish wines open, and they were all quite good. He gave us generous pours in small tasting glasses and offered very informative explanations. We both loved and ended up buying the Verderol Rueda ($ 15). He also recommended several semi-​sweet wines to my partner who ended up getting the Casteggio Sangue di Giuda for $ 12.
Later in the day, I looked up the wines we just bought and was happy to see that both wines were priced cheaper than most other places and were definitely not available at Binny’s :). The Rueda usually had a list price of $ 22 and the Sangue $ 15. I expect small independent wine shops to have higher prices due to more overhead and better service, so to receive *cheaper* prices with such lovely service is truly as good as it gets.

This place is the best!!! They have a variety of selection, but not too overwhelming like those giant wine stores with rows and rows of wine. Because they are so helpful and friendly and really listen to what your tastes are, every recommendation has been a great experience! I especially love that their affordable prices and it makes it easy to buy as gifts for those office parties or when you don’t have the time to shop around. Wine always makes a great gift for any type of party. If you are looking for something free to do on a friday before dinner, try thier FREE wine tasting on friday evenings. I try and go and stock up on my favorite wine as often as possible! I highly recommend this place and if you check in to facebook or foursquare and Unilocal,you get a discount! YAAAAAAAAAAAAY! My favorite for sure!

Vino 100 is fabulous! They have tons of great wines at very reasonable prices. The staff is also very helpful, so definitely take advantage of them. Don’t forget to check-​in on Foursquare for a discount, because I sure did. Next time, though!

What an interesting little place.
Policy is 100 great and uncommon bottles of wine for 25 $ or under! Could anyone really ask for more?
Oh wait but there IS more! They also carry a small selection of beers and vodkas you can’t find imported by too many places.
Oh and you’re gonna love this: Friday’s they have wine tastings from — i believe — 5pm –9pm… just call in and ask because it’s totally free!

1^st Shout-​out to Yanyao N. for posting the fabulous 1^st Anniversary Celebration at Vino 100. I would not have visited (as soon) if it wasn’t for the event posting.
I walked in not knowing what to expect. I know some wines, but I won’t pretend to be an expert by any stretch of the imagination. I walked in and was swept away by the layout. The bottles are on the front of each «display» in wooden crates. Each wine has a description of the wine and shows two scales. One for Light to Full Body, and Sweet to Dry. I may not have those exactly right, but I hope you get my drift! It was set-​up to help you succeed and the people are extreme super bonuses!
Sam and Robert were our wine aficionados and they did not disappoint. They each were responsible for picking 4 wines each and could go into as much detail as you wanted. They KNEW there stuff and they picked great wines. They were pleasant and patient. Let you ask all kinds of questions, told us story of the history of each (if you wanted to know). Robert was hilarious. I told him that I have not graduated into some of the fuller body reds just yet. He says wine is a process. and I was not old enough yet, lmao. He says most people start every sweet like zinfandels and moscatos, then move on to merlots and cabernets, and continue forward. I got soo ticked because that’s been my whole journey and I am still far away from others!
The owner and other staff were there and were genuinely friendly. In short, I walked away with 4 wines that I cannot wait to try or entertain with! AND I got 5% off the most expensive bottle for having checked in on Unilocal!
This place rocks and is great for people who know what they are looking for OR don’t know anything!

Strolled in after visiting Home Goods knowing there was a wine tasting. The gentlemen helping was extremely welcoming and knowledgeable. The wines are very affordable and the types vary upon season… currently more red than whites, but the whites will come soon enough with summer. I did buy a bottle of Riesling, but haven’t tried it yet. Also I bought some dark stout as they have a few select specialty beers. I’ll be back to try some more.

I do love a highly functional, well-​designed wine store. I mean, you’re coming to buy wine. It’s a sensory experience. Shouldn’t the process of buying it engage you? Warehouses have their place and all, but when it comes to buying a nice bottle o’ vino, I prefer pretty places.
Vino 100 is put together nicely. It’s also arranged nicely — with groupings according to taste/​elements, rather than region. It allows those who aren’t well versed in «blah blah blah comes from blah blah blah» to buy something that will suit their particular flavor profile. And, don’t quote me, but I want to say that the bottles are color coordinated as well. Seriously, bottles of certain hues huddled together and pleased my eye much the way their contents would please my tongue.
Between the wood cabinets, helpful owner, informative tastings, and wallet-​friendly price points, you’re bound to find something you like. I found five bottles of something I like. Each bottle was extremely reasonably priced and (so far) crowd-​pleasing. This may come as a surprise to some, but I have yet to power through them all. First up to bat was a Spanish Grenache (Bodega Tintoralba). The bottle boasted a raven-​haired Angelina Jolie lookalike. Sold. I’m currently making my way through a California Pinot Noir (Heron). This sleek bottle contains an incredibly drinkable pinot that’s not at all intimidating. With spice and cherry notes, it’s an easy crowd-​pleaser. I love the fact that I’d never encountered any of the wines I bought. The owner goes to great lengths to educate his clientele, as well as to support small vineyards. I appreciate both efforts. You will be hard pressed to find bottles you’ve had before. With (only) 100 to choose from, take a chance on something new. Have an adventure. Bonus: buy a bunch of wine, get a wine tote bag, complete with individual bottle pouches. Yes, this just got real.

The selection is awesome and there is no clutter like most liquor/​wine stores.
This wine is affordable and good as most of them are around the $ 15-​$ 23 range.
I also like the fact they have a chart that shows you ranges of ow fruity/​dry each brand of wine is. The guys that run this place is very knowledgeable and are always helpful

I had a great first experience at Vino 100. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly and not at all pretentious when I needed help picking out the perfect wine. He gave me back stories on how the wine was made and interesting facts.
I left with a great product that didn’t break the bank. I often feel at other wine shops that I’m cheap for opting out of the crazy expensive bottles… which makes this shop a breath of fresh air for both my wallet and my ego.
I’ll definitely be returning for future wine purchases.

I really am a fan of this place and I would frequent more if I was closer — Clear labels, organized by flavor, friendly HELPFUL staff — this is truly the super place to shop for wine with unique — UNIQUE — labels that I have yet to see infiltrate the supermarkets etc.

I went to this place for a wine tasting event. It’s not exactly L friendly but if I drove i would have had a good amount of parking. The place is a small but it has a clean design with lots of wood finishes. There are small tables and a long one in the back to facilitate the wine tastings that go on during weekends.
The schtick of this place is that it carries 100 different wines there (hence the name). They also say every bottle is under $ 25, average being in the teens, but I did see a couple $ 26 bottles. The bottles are clearly labeled and have excellent descriptions with rating system to accompany it. In addition to wine they have a tiny selection of craft beers, hard liquors and some wine accessories.
The service is excellent. the wine tasting was very informative and they let you try a wide selection of wines. The employees were able to answer all the questions we had, but granted, I’m guessing our questions weren’t that difficult.
I figure if you’re in the area, give it a try to find some inexpensive but good bottles of wine. I got a malbec there that was nice and full bodied just as the description stated.

This place is an awesome find. They have 100 wines under $ 25 and a premium section with wines that are under $ 50. This is a great place to stock up on your daily libations.
The man that works there is very helpful and helped me pick some great wines to pair with our meal at Bonsoiree.
I definitely recommend checking this place out.

What an awesome little gem! My cousin and I were headed to Home Goods and saw a big sign for a new wine store so of course we HAD to go in.
This place is great for those who don’t really know a lot about wine. Everything is reasonably priced and the way they have the store set up is by flavor characteristics (sweet, dry, full body, light body)
It is very easy to navigate and they have a wonderfully pleasant staff. I usually buy my wines at Binny’s because it is convenient, but I am more than happy to make a side trip to support this little wine shop.
They have tastings on Saturday afternoons and all the wines they carry are unique and under $ 25. You can’t beat that!

I randomly came across this very new store while dining at Pei Wei next door (it’s a mini PF Changs, who knew?) I love the concept behind this store — they offer 100 wines, all of which cost less than $ 25 (they also offer a few higher priced boutique liquors, wines, and beer). For someone like me who likes wine, but doesn’t know much about it, this is far less intimidating/​overwhelming than something like a Binny’s. The selection of both whites and reds is arranged along the wall in increasing order of intensity. Each wine has a small card with tasting notes, and the guys that were in the store (I think perhaps they were the owners?) were only too happy to offer suggestions and the store was holding a tasting in the back.
I was definitely charmed by this comfy, non-​intimidating store and its manageable wine selection. I’ve signed up for their email list and look forward to seeing what sort of events they’ll have and I will definitely be back.

I’m not a dullard when it comes to wine, but I’m certainly not an expert either. So a setup like that of Vino 100 really appeals to me. The store is laid out so the wines flow from one end of the taste spectrum to the other, with every wine labeled with a descriptive card explaining the flavor profile and setting it on a scale compared to the wines around it in terms of body, sweetness, etc. All the wines with a few exceptions are under $ 15, so you can get a full evening’s worth of choices without denting the wallet.
Also, the guys running the shop were very friendly, were happy to give me a taste of a wine I was looking at, and seemed quite eager to help out in any way they could.
I just wish it were somewhere other than the churning hellpit that is the Elston corridor between Diversey and Fullerton.

Just happened by this weekend from the sign posted on Logan… i bought six bottles, each a different red or white, including a «sparkler» from France … the design of the sstore, the knowledge of the owner, the location and the pricing — all worthy of 5 stars.
i tried my first red last night — Bull’s Blood from Hungary. a very red meat kind of libation. the owner has a very dynamic inventory and i hope this shop succeeds. it will give my beloved Provenance some competition.
many of the wines are undeed under $ 20, some quite good ones for less than $ 15.
