First timer and I had no appointment. John took me right away and gave the works. The haircut was laid back and precise. Think I’ve finally found my go to barber.

For a great haircut this is the place to go. I like my hair a little long while still keeping it professional. John did a great job.

Great place to get your haircut. Gino and John both make you feel welcome when you walk in. The place is kept neat and clean too.

My husband, son and father in law all get their hair cut here by Gino and John. They do a great job and they even have a spa in the back for us women. Love this place!

Just a great old-​fashioned barber shop that is also a modern unisex salon in the same building. John and Mr. Vince have always given me a great haircut, and are really nice guys to boot. They are really artists with the scissors and the clippers (always freehand, can you imagine the difficulty?), and I always leave feeling like a million bucks. They have coffee and homemade wine to drink – I’ve never tried the wine; it’s usually a bit early in the day for me. That said, it’s a really nice welcoming gesture. The wet shave is fantastic, but a little pricey for me to indulge in regularly, but is well worth splurging on time to time. Call ahead for an appointment, but if you have time to wait they will take walk-​ins. Go to Vince & Gino’s already!

OK so I was very happy to find a good reviewed barbershop near my house and I went there. I have no idea why this place got so much good reviews, most of them got the haircut from John so maybe he is good. Actually he was cutting Aaron’s hair that time who is the first guy to review this place!!!
So maybe my review is good for guys with long hair. I got the haircut from Vince, he could not speak English very well (according to himself) and I told him I only want my side hair gone (I have pony tail so these side hairs above my ears look like a horn) and then cut about 1 – 2 inches from the hair and that’s it. The most weird thing here is that he was making me face the other guy instead of the mirror so I couldn’t see anything. He started the cut and he was finished in less than 10 minutes with my hair (he also asked me to stand up in the middle and he cut some hair then, WTF?) and then he asked if I want a shave too and I though it could be fun so I said yes, and to be honest the shave was the only good thing! after all these massages and creams and oils he asked me do you want a m$%$ (couldn’t hear) and I said what? and he said refresh, so I thought he mean aftershave and I said yeah sure. Then I was feeling a really cool minty thing on my face and then he was gone! I managed to get up and look in the mirror and I said Oh shit my whole face is covered in those spa mud, and I knew I’m screwed (I ended paying up $ 60 no tip off course!) but I didn’t say anything, at least the feeling was cool and the guy was about 90 years old, working there from 1960. So anyway, I came home.
Now, the worst part, my hair which used to be a little above my waist line was cut to above my shoulder instead of 2 inches (or I am 6 inches high probably?!!) and then they were uneven, one side was above my shoulder and the other side under it (about an inch difference!), my side hair was still there, he only managed to blow dry it and glue it somehow to my skin, and worst of all he had cut my eyebrows and I have glitches in between both of them. My last barber, Mario at Frank’s barbershop in the loop, used to comb my eyebrows and then cut them in a curve, but this guy was randomly cutting my eyebrows while he was cutting my hair!
I really think I could go to court and sue them with the look I had but you don’t want to bother an old man who looked like a Bridgeport icon!
My fiancée literally had to machine my side hair, cut the other side of my hair to even them out and trim my eyebrows a little bit.
Long story short, I have to wait at least 4 weeks or more to look normal again and can tie my hair properly without them slipping out. Again, to be fair, this was a review for Vince only considering I have long hair which I’m sure he never had that before! I won’t even go near that place again!

I would overall give this 5-​stars for customer service and warmth! As far as actual services, I would give about 3 stars. I was drawn to this place because of an offer online for salon and spa services. I was planning to treat myself, but had never been here so decided to «try» it first. I was avoiding doing something drastic, since I have very natural, soft, kinky, multiple-​textured hair lol.
I was out, it was getting later and later in the day, and my free time without children dwindling. ;) On a whim, I called to confirm that they actually 1.) do black, natural hair and 2.) the price was reasonable. To make a long story short… I went, and am glad that I did. Paige did my hair. I was very leery, seeing as I did not see the usual display or irons, curlers, etc. Paige is a very professional, efficient, friendly young lady.
She combed out my dry, thick, kinky/​curly hair, washed it, detangled it… again, conditioned it beautifully! Then she proceeded to blow dry and flat iron it. To give a disclaimer, it was not your typical «black salon experience»…neither my roots nor my edges were ‘straightened’ very well at all. However, she was gentle, and it felt very clean and healthy when she was done.
Although she did not get it «bone or silky straight» as I’m used to, or anywhere near that, the process was still wonderful. I didn’t feel like I had wasted my money. I ended up getting a «summer cut» (slightly more than a trim, about an inch or two) and my hair was lighter, bouncier, easier to comb through and detangle and I was happy when I washed my hair a week later!
I definitely think this would be a great place for a person that has less «wayward» natural hair or a relaxer, or a different set of Black hair issues lol. I usually straighten my hair a couple times a year for a special occasion or to get my ends trimmed. Paige did admit that she couldn’t straighten my edges as well as she needed to, because she didn’t have her baby irons.
Bottom line: I received EXCELLENT customer service, warmth, concern, water, a cut/​layer, wash, blow dry and flat iron for $ 40! :) YEP… so it was worth every penny. I’d go back, especially since she does straw sets and other styles too! LOL… love it! I would definitely love to try her with some of my natural hair styles.
I love this place! I must say, I was very impressed although I did not get the end result I was looking for. It was a gamble, at best, and it may not have turned out ideally, but I thoroughly enjoyed the ride!

Have been getting my hair cut here by John for the past year. Also got a shave once just to try it (so relaxing and cleansing). John is a true old-​school barber which is a rarity these days.

They are great-​Gino cuts and highlights my hair and does a great job-​and is so reasonably priced compared to all the other salons in Chicago. My husband also gets his hair cut there and loves it. Definitely recommend!

Real nice place. Bears and Sox memorabilia everywhere which is great.
The barber was real friendly and gave me an old school straight razor shave in addition to getting the exact cut I wanted. He recommended a particular kind of styling gel which was also exactly what I wanted.
It’s not dirt cheap but then not terribly expensive either. It’s pretty fair for a private owned shop.

The first Unilocal review for this shop, by Aaron S., persuaded me to try Vince & Gino’s Hair Design. I am glad I went. I called in advance on a Saturday afternoon and was encouraged to come over soon — John Calascibetta would cut my hair. This shop is located in a quiet and well-​kept residential area between Bridgeport and Chinatown. The shop is well-​appointed, bright, cheerful, with an amusing Mediterranean décor. John listened to my needs, made suggestions, and cut my hair and trimmed my beard as I wanted — I was most pleased with the neatness of the results. I liked his attention, which included a cup of coffee and some coffee cake in addition to the haircut. One of the owners, Vince, was on hand and shook my hand, thanked me for patronizing his shop, and made me feel welcome and appreciated. My haircut and beard trim was $ 20 — a very good price — and I added $ 5 for a tip. Overall, I was very glad for Unilocal’s help — I would not have found this shop without the online search assistance. Yes, I am going back. I already have an appointment for a return visit!

The epic quest to get a haircut came to an end at Vince & Gino’s on a Thursday evening. I was lucky enough to find a place on my route home, and while I had to get a slot at 5:30pm since they close at 6pm, forcing me to have to request to leave 15 minutes early from work (which was calculated and allowed me to arrive JUST in time with no help from the CTA, of course), it was the only place that I could find that even had availability after 5pm and hadn’t already failed me several times on this quest.
Even better, when I made my appointment, I was told which barber I’d be getting. That showed me that this hair-​cutting business has MORE THAN ONE hair cutter employed, which is better than some of the other places I used to go to.
My barber was John Calascibetta, and he showed me where I could hang up my coat and take my seat and he was ready to go.
A good amount of casual barbershop conversation to keep things going make the time fly by. The shampoo was nice (though a little weird being that high off the ground in the barber chair stretched back to the sink) and I liked the smell of most of the products he was using. A quick toweling and a brief description of the haircut I wanted and he somehow knew exactly what I was looking for. He even took a minute midway to sweep up the hair clippings on the floor to eliminate all chances of messing anything up by slipping the slightest bit on the wet clipped hair. It was interesting, but showed genuine concern over giving me the best haircut possible.
Even better was the fact that since this place hires BARBERS, I was able to get a professional beard trim for the first time in a few years. It’s made me very much consider never going back to a place that has only one hair-​cutting employee who is also female, because they REFUSE to do much, if anything at all, with a beard.
In the end, it was pricier than I’d expected. The haircut and beard trim brought the total to $ 35, but when I considered that the trim would not be happening very often (since it’s finally back to a normal shape and will be for a while), it’s really not that bad in the end. The salon in the Sears Tower (which everyone in my office threatens to drag me to when THEY think I need a haircut) as well as most other places in the Loop charge more than that just for the haircut alone.
This business, in the end, seems to be equal part manly-​barbershop and girly-​spa/​salon, but as long as they know to hook me up with a beard-​trimmin’ Master Barber like John when I come in looking to take care of my hair-​related business, we’ll be totally cool.
