History

Established in 2007.

Professor Christian Uflacker is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Champion from Brazil as well as an undefeated Mixed Martial Arts Fighter. He trained under Master Carlos Gracie Jr. and is our head instructor at Uflacker Academy. He moved to the U.S. in 2006 and he established Uflacker Academy in 2007, by the age of 22. Professor Christian has made it a standard to incorporate a team and family atmosphere and as a result, Uflacker Academy became the premier location for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the Chicagoland area! His focus was to share his knowledge and passion and to inspire others to make Jiu Jitsu a part of their journey!

Professor Christian Uflacker was born & raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; where the foundation for modern day Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu was laid. He trained under & received his black belt, from Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu Master, Carlos Gracie Jr., at the Gracie Barra Academy. During this time Professor Christian learned Gracie Jiu Jitsu & began winning and compiling many championships. Some of Professor Christian Uflacker’s accomplishments include being a 2x Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Champion, 5x BJJ National Champion, 7x BJJ State Champion in Rio de Janeiro, European BJJ Champion, Pan American BJJ Champion as well as U.S. National BJJ Champion. Professor Christian has always had a thirst to learn and compete, naturally, he later transitioned to the competitive sport of Mixed Martial Arts. He has fought for some of the largest organizations in the Mixed Martial Arts arena, including Bellator MMA & Strikeforce!

I was very impressed with how friendly and welcoming everyone is at Uflacker Academy. It it truly something I look forward to. Professor Christian treats everyone with respect no matter what belt level you are and gives everyone the hands on training in order to complete our techniques correctly. I highly suggest this school. I absolutely love it!

One of thing that stood out for me at this facility was the closeness between all the members. Everyone was really welcoming and eager to learn and share knowledge. Prof. Christian provides some of the highest level instruction world wide. He does a great job of working with beginners all the way up to advanced belts. Facility is very spacious and very well maintained, and clean! Classes are very organized and there are classes for people of all ages. If you are considering a new form of fitness or just want to try something fun and innovative. I would highly recommend Uflacker Academy!

Great Place to practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Joining Uflacker Academy has been a life changing decision for me! I was at a stage in life where I was going to a health club to do a combination aerobic/​weight workout to try and stay in shape. This kept me in average shape, but I always dreaded doing this boring workout. Now almost six years later, I’m in the best shape of my life. I look forward to learning the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from Professor Christian! I think it’s a combination of the camaraderie of the guys that train every day, and learning from a World Champion that makes training at Uflacker’s not just a work-​out, but the highlight of my day

I did a few months of research before choosing Uflacker Academy and I am very lucky I found this school. It is rare to find blackbelts actually teaching, let alone a third degree blackbelt and bjj world champion (Professor Christian Xarophino Uflacker) teaching adult and kids classes! This is a great learning environment for men, women and children. Everyone learns and absorbs information differently but I feel as though the entire staff has done a great job adapting to every students learning style and have created a very family friendly environment that everyone would look forward to going to everyday. With Professor Christian’s pedigree he could sit on the sidelines and just tell people what to do but he is very hands on, very humble and a great person. He values relationships and is respectful to everyone. This is the place to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from someone who has it in his his blood.

If you’ve ever thought about training a martial art or Brazilian jiu jitsu this is the place to go in Chicago. I’ve been training here for almost 8 years and love it. The instructor and everyone that trains here is amazing and like family. The mats are always kept clean and disinfected daily multiple times. And of course the jiu jitsu itself is awesome and you’ll really enjoy it.
