U-Pull-It Self Service Auto & Truck Parts

This place is not very organized but there are a lot of cars. They do not have loaner tools but they have tools on sale. These tools suck. Price is reasonable. In fact, cheaper than other places I have been. Its entrance is clean and organized. Its next to other venues so if you get thirsty, there are places around. Also, worth mentioning are the portable bathrooms sincet they don’t have any indoor restrooms available. Overall nicest place I have been too and lots in stock.

Called 3 different numbers to see if they have a part, and all I got was an endless loop of a digital voice, «press 1 to check inventory» to «we have pays for over 15 000 cars »

Worse Customer Service EVER!!! The guy was so rude! Won’t be doing business with them ever!!!

Big junkyard, organized by makes (GM, Ford, Chrysler, imports) and cars are all up on stands for easy removal of parts. It had been years since I’d been in here and I noticed on this recent visit they are now a part of the LKQ chain instead of U-​Pull-​It (same is true of their other locations in Blue Island and Chicago Heights). However, there are still a couple U-​Pull-​It signs still up so I am really not sure how the U-​Pull-​It to LKQ transition came to be. Did LKQ buy U-​Pull-​It?
Like has already been mentioned, be sure to arrive well in advance of the posted closing time. They won’t let you in otherwise, and they’ll start driving around to chase everyone towards the exit about a half-​hour before closing. Prices are good however; my opinion is that the prices are lower today than when they were U-​Pull-​It.

Don’t whine about when they close, just understand you need to be there earlier rather than later. There isn’t anybody I know who appreciates being paid until 5P and is held over b/​c some dork who thought he could pull a part w/​in 15 minutes… and it becomes the employees’ problem when he’s not out when they want to close the gates. Assume that if you can’t make it by 4:30, they’re going to ask you to come back another day.
The prices here are way acceptable. They don’t analyze the little stuff (trim parts) and have posted prices for larger parts. The actual collection of vehicles is relatively small at this location. I’ve found there are more trucks @ the Blue Island location and more options in general at the Aurora location. The place is organized and cars are off the ground (unlike Victory, which is just kind of a confusing, muddy dump). U Pull It is really an asset for a poor guy like me that doesn’t mind getting dirty & can’t afford to pay the outrageous dealer prices for stuff (which may or may not be in stock) when a used part will more than suffice.
At the end of the day, it’s a salvage yard, not your local Jewel. The guys are guys and everybody’s there to ‘shop’ and get out. The place is run pretty well. Have used this place for years & they’ve def got my business for the future also.

Zero if I could. Although they are open until 5, you can’t get in after 4:30. It will take some time to pull the part and pay for it, so that’s fine. However, I got there right at 4:19, was harassed by some dude posing like he worked there trying to sell parts out of his van, then was told «we close at 4:30» by some kid who seemed very put out to actually have to deal with a customer. I told him, «but it’s just getting to 4:30.» We went back and forth before some other guy said they «probably don’t have that part anyway» (because Honda Accords are super rare?) and told to come back another day. Um, no. I’m there during business hours, I should be able to conduct business. He offered to order the part for me new, and that I could come back and pick it up. What? I could do that at my regular mechanic. I don’t want a brand new part for a 12 year old car. That’s why I’m at a junkyard in the first place. When I finally got back to my car after all that foolishness, it was 4:33. I guess they figured a girl would just take way too long. Maybe I’d stop in the middle of removing a part to buy some shoes? All I wanted to do was go in, get a part, go home. I did not want to be harassed or scammed. Not worth the 40 minute drive it took to get there.

I stop in last week to see how much a used battery costs. They point me to a clipboard with a listing of common parts and their prices.
«Reconditioned battery $ 19.95 w/​$ 10 core charge».
I return the other day with the core to purchase the re-​con battery. I was first ignored, with the clerks just sitting there. I finally get the attention of an employee and he tells me its $ 35 with tax. I tell him there is a sheet that said otherwise, but the clipboard was empty.
He said «What sheet?». I ask him where the batteries are and he says to go get one from the yard. Then says it will be $ 25.00 with tax. I ask him when did their sales tax go to 30%? He gives me this blank look.
I tell him that I want one that I know is good, as I would rather not guess which ones are. He says «Too bad».
I tell them to go fuck themselves and left. Obviously, they do not want my business. Maybe they don’t like to sell to white people they cannot rip off.
Fuck you, U-​Pull-​it!

Great auto parts yard.
I came here to get some parts for my grandmother’s Buick.
I was very impressed with their organization. They have a good selection of parts cars that are in decent shape and have plenty of salvageable parts.
I was pleasantly surprised. Since I was in Chicago, I was expecting the cars to all be rusted out from salt but they weren’t. This junk yard looked like a California junk yard but with newer cars.

This is a good yard. The cars are organized by make and drained of fluids. They have the cars off the ground and a pretty decent amount/​selection of pre 2000 cars. Only thing is that prices are slightly higher, but still cool. They have good parking and only a buck to get in.
